Wrestle Euro Store sent out a newsletter today about new stuff they have in stock etc and the upcoming lines, and it also said...
So we might be seeing more price hikes at retail around the time the series with the packaging changes come out. This might just be an international thing or regarding prices Mattel charges to smaller specialist stores, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Again? This is getting ridiculous if true.

If I have to pay $15-$20 for a basic here I may just stop collecting all together. This is stupid. It's colored plastic for christ sake. The prices should be $10 at the most for a basic and $16 for an Elite.

This seems to happen every year, and not just on everything. Luckily where I live the only changes since the start of the Mattel line was an increase from $9.99 to $10.99 on basics and from $15.99 to $16.99 on Elites. So far.

IF this indeed true my hobby will come to an end. I already had to take a long break because I cannot afford them as it is. They come out too fast for me to keep up with them, along with the retail rising prices, scalpers, and now this, it takes the fun out of collecting. I am sure that others can afford it, but in this economy my wallet can't. Greed is a horrible thing...

So I haven't been a collector in a very long time, I believe I stopped around Jakks' RA Classic Superstars were released but I still check out some of the newer figs once in awhile.
The prices these days are unbelievable. I don't know how much in store and online prices vary but I saw on RSC that The Shield two-pack with Reigns and Rollins was over $30. I don't know how some of you guys are able to dish out $20+ on one figure.

Smyths still have basic figures on special lol.
But this is getting so expensive now, £100 for 4 (5) figures in the BAF set. That's ridiculous.
I bet basics will be £12-13, BP £22 and elites £18-20. It's a shame but that's what I guess but I think elites are worth more than £16.
I remember jakks being £5 for a basic, £10 for deluxe and Battle packs lol

If this is true it will hurt but I will have to quit, I've already had two price hikes in Smyths this year. Last year they where €18.99 ($25.70) then went up to €19.99 ($27.05) and now €20.49 ($27.75) each . eBay prices if you search enough will end up being better than retail even after shipping which is crazy.

So, just so I can get this straight:
Mattel, in their infinite resources, and wisdom...has decided that it would be "best for business" (no irony intended) to bump up prices for this line, all the while skimping on details such as coloring of tattoos on the Elite line. Now, time and time again, Mattel has told us that in order to maintain the consistency of the detail in their Elite lines, sometimes price increases do have to occur. Otherwise, they would start having to do things such as leaving out accessories, or leaving out details like coloring on tattoos.
That said, I'm no business major, but if you are increasing prices, and lessening the things that you promised you'd have to raise the prices on to maintain--where does that leave your customers? Lied to? Cheated? Manipulated because you know we'll buy the stuff? Well, tell you what--look no further than your own lines on MattyCollector, DC Universe Classics, and Ghostbusters. Both lines with cheapened sculpts and paint apps, at ridiculous price points, with fans who wanted the items, but not at the price point being asked. What happened to those lines, though? Cancelled. The fans had spoken, and they had enough of your GREED.
Yes, GREED. You are the biggest toy company in the world. The Barbie brand alone is enough to cover these price increases and THEN some, if allocated properly across the rest of your brands, and can still earn you a hefty profit. And if you ARE going to do these increases despite that, THEN DO WHAT WAS PROMISED TO US, AND MAINTAIN THE CONSISTENCY OF DETAIL.

Is this for Europe only? Hopefully this is just to cover shipping and distribution costs.

Mattel production costs must be getting higher due to new guys with new moulds and one cm punk who apparently costs a lot to make.

If that's what they'd say, I guess I could see it. Mattel has been killing it this year. Some of the best figures in my collection have come out this year. If they increase costs to make figures on a higher level than they are now? Hate to say it, but I'm onboard. There's a lot of great figures slated to come out, and I would mind paying a couple extra bucks for an even better figure.

As long as the product continues to be this great or gets better, I'm ok with a small increase.

TRU had BP Mysterio/Cara for $24. It was outrageous. I was appalled. If other places follow suit then I will never buy a Battle Pack again.

When Mattel got the license for it, Mattel had every reason to believe that Ghostbusters 3 would be out in theatres in 2011 or so. With Murray being an asshat, they tried to salvage a line for a franchise that hasn't been in the news for years. Not surprisingly, it didn't work.

And yet, Ghostbusters survived for two plus years.
