He became WWE Champion 6 months after his debut, 3 months after he made his debut on Raw. Sheamus was pushed to the moon. They gave him the US Title, made him KOTR, and had him win the Royal Rumble, all in an effort to keep getting him over. He was a 3 time World Champion 3 years into his career. What exactly was so hard about his rise to the top? It seems to me he was given every opportunity in the world to succeed. WWE made a major investment in him, especially with the Rumble and his WHC run. Plenty of other guys have never gotten that kind of faith from WWE. Sheamus didn't even really start getting a decent reaction until he was halfway through his 200 day WHC run, and it wasn't even that great of reaction for the kind of push he was given. Now that I think about it I guess he really didn't do much, so I guess your right. Honestly I remember when Sheamus won the WWE Title shortly after his debut, I almost thought WWE was giving him the same push they gave Brock Lesnar, and I really don't hear anyone complain about Lesnar winning the WWE Title 4 or 5 months after his debut so please, tell me your opinion on when Lesnar won the belt so soon. Well I think the biggest difference is how quickly Lesnar got over versus how Sheamus has struggled to get over, but Lesnar was booked perfectly imo. Lesnar came in with Heyman on the mic and had a credible resume with his amateur background that the fans instantly acknowledged, similar to Kurt Angle, and he was so physically imposing and athletically gifted, especially for his age. They marketed Brock as "The Next Big Thing" and they ran him over guys like the Hardyz and RVD and then put him over The Rock to win the title, even dirty it was huge. In other words, the WWE built him up as this unstoppable monster and then they delivered on it. With Sheamus, it was sort of similar but his tables match win felt like a fluke and I remember people thinking the finish was botched at the time. I think a big part of that was people not being ready to see Sheamus in that spot. If you didn't watch WWECW then you really didn't know who he was or why you should care about him. Ultimately, Lesnar was cemented by Undertaker though in those matches before he dropped the title. That's something Sheamus never did. Cena and Orton weren't able to do with Sheamus what Lesnar did with Undertaker, and later with Kurt Angle. It was a different time, and Lesnar had some different guys to work with but I just think Lesnar is a once in a lifetime guy and Sheamus, while very good in the ring and a big imposing guy, isn't Brock Lesnar. Maybe Sheamus was just a product of 2002 booking versus 2009 booking, or the 2002 roster versus the 2009 roster, but I compare Sheamus more to a Randy Orton or Bobby Lashley type of guy than I do Brock Lesnar. Sheamus has plenty of career left to go though. So he still has time to come out and have a gimmick that really cements him with the audience. Sheamus is going to continue to be treated like a top level guy because WWE thinks he should be a top level guy. I just haven't seen the audience really share that sentiment with WWE to any large degree, at least not to-date. So it would be nice for the talent to catch up to the opportunity he's been given imo.

It seem like everyone's solution to stale characters on WF is to either turn them heel, or to get off of TV.I'm honestly fine with Sheamus as a face, Sheamus worked his way to the top and wasn't handed everything from the start. I guess everyone just turns on people when they've reached the top or turn face. The reason everyone's answer is to turn someone heel is because there the only characters that have any sort of edge to them anymore. Anytime a face starts getting over the make them these smiley, wise cracking, hard to stomach characters. Cena's been like that for the last 8 years, Sheamus, Bryan, and Punk all became like that. Orton got way too watered down. I won't even touch Del Rio's turn. Give us some bad ass faces and there won't be this problem.

I like the ring work of Sheamus, but his character is just cheesy and stale. If he scaled that cheesey-factor down a bit, I would like him a lot more. He could still even be a face, but less goofy.

I actually prefer Sheamus as a face, until he picks up a microphone.

He's a good wrestler, I just don't enjoy his humor or his face. He irks me. Having him away for all this time was better than having Cena away in my opinion. I just can't invest into the obviously PG for-the-kids type of character. As a life long fan, that's just not what I want to see. However, since that is the era that we're in, well, slowly shying away from, I'm glad that the guy can at least wrestle pretty well.

He's good in the ring, but his character is so incredibly cheesy and childish that it's embarrassing to watch. He needs to go heel. My thoughts exactly Mine as well
