Following Wrestlemania 17, things continued for the World Wrestling Federation as normal. Vince McMahon chooses The Big Show to do his bidding against his son Shane McMahon that led to a destructive Last Man Standing match at the following pay-per-view, Backlash. During said match, WCW United States Champion, Booker T made his first WWF appearance attacking The Big Show with his WCW US Title, allowing Shane to dive off the stage on top of Big Show to win the contest. In the main event that night, The Rock would retain the WWF Championship against Steve Austin, Triple H, & The Undertaker in a fatal four way match.
The following month at the Judgement Day pay-per-view, The Rock would put the WWF Championship on the line against The Undertaker who defeated, Steve Austin and Triple H in a triple threat match on Raw to become the #1 contender. During the match that closed the show, WCW Owner, Shane McMahon made his way down to the ring. Shane pointed behind Undertaker who was staring at Shane, and as Taker turned around, he was attacked with the WCW US Championship by its holder, Booker T. The bell was rang as the match had come to an end but the action didn’t stop as The Rock began brawling with Booker T. The cameras panned out to show someone standing behind the Rock, and the mystery masked man turned Rock around, delivering an Ace Crusher that looked very familiar to the audience. The man took his mask off to reveal WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Diamond Dallas Page, and the PPV came to a close with the WCW World Champion and the WCW United States Champion standing tall in the ring holding their belts in the air.
The following month at the King of the Ring ppv, Kane would defeat Kurt Angle in the finals of the tournament to be crowned as the 2001 King of the Ring. The tournament itself sort of played second fiddle to two big main events as for the first time, WCW Championship belts were defended on WWF Pay-Per-Views. The first of these matches saw Booker T defend the WCW United States Championship against the WWF Tag Team Champions, Edge & Christian in a triple threat rules match made by Vince McMahon to assure Booker T would lose the belt. Things may have turned out that only, if not for the WCW Tag Team Champions, Lance Storm & Mike Awesome debuting, taking out the WWF Tag Team Champions, allowing Booker T to pin Edge for the victory. Diamond Dallas Page would also be forced to defend his championship in the main event of the night against WWF Champion, The Rock. Only the WCW Championship was on the line, and in the end, Shane McMahon would distract The Rock, allowing DDP to hit the Diamond Cutter and pick up the victory.
