I usually just ignore that kind of talk, but whenever I did respond to that kind of stuff, I just compared it to Movies/TV. Same here

I wish I could show them modern examples of great, mainstream wrestling but...yeah. Not out there.
I usually will try to show them some classic stuff but they want to see modern stuff and the modern stuff is pretty bad and, frankly, embarrassing to "show off."

Just put on some CZW and say "How fake was that, b*tch?" The weedwacker and the double needle spot are my favorites to show. Also the Thumbtack Jack vs Jon Moxley dog collar match is a good one Moxley - TJ is a underrated match. It's so smart, It's Tournament of Death, they want the guys in the ring to be basically just a puddle of blood. And then to have Jon quit without a over the top spot. So so smart. And created so much heat.

I used to get frustrated at it, but now I just laugh. I laugh at how they think they know everything about something they've watched for like a minute. I just don't waste my time anymore and if someone responded's with a "Wow that stuff's so gay, you know its fake right?" when I tell them i'm a wrestling fan I just laugh and say "alright man, the blood is definitely a ketchup packet. Oh and the 20 feet falls off ladders threw tables is all fake to. Don't forget the injury's that guys sustain daily the surgery pictures are just fake".
No need to waste your time, just try to enjoy it for yourself and not waste your time trying to preach wrestling and make other people enjoy it.
At this point I don't really tell people that i'm a wrestling fan because of the smart ass comments that people give me, I will wear shirts though I don't hide it I just don't make it obvious either. Expect in class today they were talking about a high school wrestler who has no legs and someone said has anyone ever wrestled with one leg and I screamed out "Zach Gowen" and everyone gave me weird looks hahaha. It just came out!

So today I was having a debate with a few of my friends about Wrestling, specifically WWE. They were saying that it is fake and they don't see the entertainment factor in it because it's pre-determined and they believe that anybody could do it. It is one of the most annoying things when other people don't understand that us fans know it's fake, but not everything is fake, e.g bumps and injuries. And the fact that they had the audacity to say that anybody could do it, they don't realise the amount of training and how much time is spent on earning their craft. Anyone else experienced this with your friends? So educate them about it. They obviously don't really KNOW about it. It's a matter of them actually WANTING to know about it though. Otherwise, it's a pointless conversation to have with them.

Happens all the time, not so much now. When I was in high school last year, yes. The same goes with Nascar... "LEFT TURN". That crap annoys me to the pulp.

I think every Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment fan goes through this. When I was younger, it was my parents. After a few years, it was my friends who didn’t watch it at all. At this point in time, it’s my friends that did watch it during the peak of its popularity, but eventually outgrew it.
Sometimes, maybe once a year, I do feel a certain way about not being able to talk about Wrestling with my friends, because they either don’t watch it anymore or never watched it to begin with, but that’s what the forums are for. Honestly, I might have lost interest a few years back if it wasn’t for this particular forum. I started skipping Raw, Smackdown, and Impact episodes, but continued to sign on here for news, updates, etc., and the occasional Dream card discussions. I love those Dream Card discussions!!
I never really let them get to me. After all, it’s my interest (the history), my entertainment (the shows), and my hobby (the collection). My point is, if they don’t like it, don’t let it get to you. I’m sure there are things you don’t like that they do. For example, my wife loves reality singing competition shows. My solution, 2 living rooms with 2 TVs and 2 DVRs.
Funny thing is, when WrestleMania comes around, my house is packed with “casual fans”. With all the Belts I have, you would think my house is WrestleMania Fan Axxess. They sure love staring at all of my leather and gold, but to them, it’s nothing more than just TV show props. To me, these the richest prizes in all of Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment!!

I managed to turn my best friend into a wrestling fan. Ever since she basically watches every PPV live (which is a bitch here in Germany due to time zones). But other than that everybody's like "Ha GAY!". But I like it so I just don't bother.

I showed her CM Punk and AJ Lee and she became infatuated with them and showed an interest for the first time in the 13 years I have known her!

My favorite is the "YOU watch PRO WRESTLING? ... But you seem so smart!" A quote I like is "For fans, no explanation is necessary. For non-fans, no explanation will ever do." I think it was Jeff Jarrett who said that wasn't it? That's whom I heard it from, all right! Not sure if he ORIGINALLY said it or not, but I'll be happy to credit him!

The "its fake" people sound so dumb to me mainly because they fail to understand wrestling is like any forum of art. Movies are all scripted but nobody yells fake or acts like anyone could pull acting off. Maybe its because wrestling is live action but its more than just the fighting. The stories/angles, history, colorful characters just stuff you could never see in reality is what makes it entertaining.
The funny thing is the "its fake" people are usually the same morons that think "reality" shows are real.............

And the fact that they had the audacity to say that anybody could do it, they don't realise the amount of training and how much time is spent on earning their craft. Anyone else experienced this with your friends? this is how I've always explained it to people: "I enjoy it like any other "fictional" entertainment. They are acting out a story & it's fun to watch, just like any other tv show with violence, or athleticism. I am glad it isn't real, because I don't enjoy watching people get hurt or fight for real." the main thing is, you can't expect a non-fan to 'get it' --- you can't force it on people, or even help them understand why you like it…if they're closed minded people like what they like…..most people realize reality tv is phony but they like shutting their brains off - I get frustrated when my family thinks that stuff is real, but you kinda have to let people enjoy what they enjoy *plus professional sports are rigged anyway, so it's not like all things aren't fake to some degree

I usually explain to these people slowly that they must hate going to the movies and watching other TV shows, and music......Oh you like those things? Weird because most of those people aren't really married to each other, or in love with each other, or want to kill each other, yet you consider THAT entertainment.
I get entertainment from watching wrestling. Not because I know the show is pre-determined (News flash: So is the drama or comedy, or anything else that comes from Hollywood!), but because of the effort it takes to get 10k-15k (or however many people might be in attendance that night) to cheer/boo or do whatever the wrestlers want the audience to react. And most times they are doing this on the fly! I wonder how many actors can do that? I love all mediums of entertainment, and there are some that just aren't my cup of tea, but hey everyone should be allowed their corner of the entertainment universe.
