This isn't by any means a slam at Mabel, it's too bad he died, but sadly we all have to one day which is freaky enough when you stop and think about it.
But I find it a bit funny that it seems every wrestling fan on my Facebook, and even on here, is saying how they enjoyed Mabel and such - yet before he died, people would bash him for being a lousy worker, and how he shouldn't have had a push in 1995 and such.
It can go for any wrestler actually. If someone dropped dead tomorrow, every fan would say "I liked him, he was one of my favourites, I always enjoyed his work" and so on.
Why is that the case when a wrestler dies, everyone all of a sudden becomes a fan of his - albeit even if its for a few days??

I guess the saying "You never know what you have until its gone" would be a way of putting it.

thats so true, i think ppl just feel sad because they died, and say they liked them because they feel bad, not because they actually do, I am sure if those same ppl were to watch his old matches, they would still think he sucked, but because he died, they just feel bad

I feel bad the man is dead, and he was integral part of my early adult years as a WWF fan.
that said, I never cared for him in the ring,he was sloppy, and hurt people. whether as Mabel, Viscera,or Big Daddy V. he never was one of my favorites. being honest here.

I'm actually being honest. I liked big daddy v as big daddy v gimmick and I loved some of his matches, and I even looked up his japan matches But you do have a valid point

I never was a fan of his, and I don't claim to be now. That being sad, his death is still sad (like any other early death), and he was a major part of WWF/E for many years. Hell, even when he was in a minor role, they still made sure he got TV time.
Anyway, that could be said for anyone. I remember arguing with someone that Michael Jackson was still the "King of Pop," regardless of his insanity outside of music a week before he died, then suddenly the same guy started quoting his lyrics and talking about how great he was.
Nobody wants to seem heartless, so they put on a facade about how great someone was, because we have some fixation with life and death meaning something and having to leave behind a legacy. Truth is, no one is remembered after they're dead. Everyone will only focus on the good things and ignore the bad, ignoring a major part of who you were.
Unless you intern and murder about six-million Jews, that is.
Anyway, I'm sad that he's dead, but that doesn't mean I think he was a good wrestler.

I always enjoyed his personas, his ring work was meh. He gave us many memorable moments just through his gimmicks so for that alone he will always be one I will remember. I did really enjoy his match on Smackdown as Big Daddy V against Undertaker

It is sad King Mabel/Viscera passed away, but other than a feud with the Undertaker he had in 2007 or 2008, he was not a guy I enjoyed watching.

Yep I totally agree with the OP on this one.
The only FOND memory of Big Daddy V is this video (I can only post the link because I'm on my phone)

I couldn't agree more.
I always have and always will think he was a terrible wrestler, but it's a shame he died. He was a very memorable part of my favorite era of wrestling (the New Gen).

I have to agree with this. Even after he died, I was thinking about my favorite moments of him, and mine when when he slipped in that Hardcore match! Haha!

It was ridiculous when Brad Armstrong died. Everyone turned into his longtime fan. Even 14 year olds that had never heard of him were saying how great he was.
Wrestling fan logic is if you're alive you suck but when you die you were the greatest athlete to ever lace up a pair of boots. Zack Ryder could drop dead tomorrow and he would be known for a few days as the greatest professional wrestler of his time.

I consider myself a fan of Viscera/Mabel/Big Daddy V. That doesn't mean I think he should've been world champion or that he should be inducted into the HOF. He was good for what he was and I liked him. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Mabel I actually really really liked. I was always a huge fan. When he came back randomly with gangrel that SD I freaked out. Then he stuck around. I honestly warned BDV to become a top heel. Sad. He was so young too.
He indeed has had a hall of fame worthy career. No doubt about that

People always blow up wrestlers who died to be better then they really are. The obvious exception being Benoit of course. Savage was huge but was rarely talked about on this site until he died, then he became the greatest of all time. Everyone talks about how Owen should have been World Champion, bologna! Owen was a hell of a worker but he wasnt world championship material.

I hate when any wrestler dies because I grew up with them. Kind of like distant family. With that said, I always thought Test was terrible.

Highly athletic for a man of his stature. Not saying he will be first ballot. But some day he absolutely deserves a spot. He's had a highly memorable career

The Owen Hart one was strange, when stupid rumours started that if he hadn't died, he was getting the world title push and gimmick that went to Triple H.
In the same vein, I'm going to start the rumour that Mabel was booked to end the streak at WrestleMania 30. It's equally likely.
