I'm only saying this based on shows I've seen. Who's the Boss? is very underrated, that's my choice. Seasons 3-5 are comedy gold (Season 5 is the best season by far).
So, in your mind, what do you think is the best sitcom from the 1980s? Here's the criteria:
-About half of the show's run had to have been in this decade -Situation comedies only

For me personally it's Growing Pains, but that's reflective of my age. Right time, right place, and I admired that Mike Seaver role. I have equal admiration for both Ferris Bueller and Zack Morris as well.
I think Cheers was to the 80's what Seinfeld became to the 90's. So I think Cheers is probably my biased, but attempted unbiased opinion here if I were to say the "best" from the 80's. It's honestly been a long time since I've seen any of these shows though. I liked Alf, Family Ties, and the Cosby Show too.

Perfect Strangers for me.
But Who's The Boss and Growing Pains are definitely right up there.

The Simpsons wasn't really an 80's show though, as it really belonged to the 90's and the whole of the 2000's. Married with Children I agree with in general, but that's also a show I attach more to the 90's than the 80's.

I'm not that keen on S1 of Friends, it hasn't held up as well as the rest of the show. But love the rest (with 10 being weaker than the 2-9 though). I know all too well that you're not keen on Monica after S5 haha. I like Frasier S1 and S2, but Niles ended up being the best character and it took a while for them to use him as a real main character so I do prefer the show from S3-11.

Ah yeah if we count animated stuff then hands down The Simpsons. Animated or not a show needs writers to write a script. All sitcoms need a script, and the scripts used for the simpsons have been far superior to any other 80's sitcom. Think of when you've ever heard someone quote the simpsons....... now think of how many times you've heard other sitcom quotes?

"AH Geez there's always a line!" That's a Moe quote right? One that always crops for me is "Well I liked it... Didn't I?" (from the Poochie episode). But I'll literally quote the Simpsons for anything fitting at the time.

Yeah, there's an episode where homer wants to apply for a permit but he gets in the sex offenders line. And then Moe walks in and sees people and says AH GEEZ there's always a line.
