Ever since BCA Austin with his camo shirt and black jean shorts, I've been plagued by having at least one Jakks WWF/E character in every assortment of figures that I couldn't find a ring gear version of and had to settle for either having them not wrestle at all or do some sort of "hardcore" gimmick. Poor Shamrock was OUT OF HIS ZOOONE being forced to wrestle in his jean shorts and tanktop, with nary a technical hold being applied in any of his BCA matches.
My first two RealScan TTL Edges were nearly identical in that they were both wearing the molded jacket (that, in hindsight, didn't look realistic in the slightest). To remedy this, I'd just always have him be attacked on the way to the ring. I had fun with it the first few times, but found it to be monotonous when he was slated to be KOTR (his name was on the cup/trophy, after all) and NEVER had the time to remove it, whether he was in the ring or chilling in the locker room. It wasn't until many years later that I finally had a TTL Edge without a jacket; Backlash 2004, which was hideous in retrospect.
I guess the point of this thread is, is there any character you simply could not find a figure in ring gear and had to go with one of Jakks's lesser options? If so, what did you do about it?
This is the first time I've made a thread in this section of a forum in a while...it feels good!

Not exactly the same scenario as yours, but close. And involving someone who you mentioned no less. That being TTL Shamrock. I always found everyone I wanted in ring gear in the bca line. And would again throughout the TTL/RA era. But, I'm sure you remember, that TTL Ken Shamrock was the only one produced in that line. It drove me nuts that he was constantly in a damn t shirt. Just think, it wasn't until 05 that we got a proper ring attired 6" Shamrock. I basically had him, much like your Edge, get attacked backstage. I remember the blow off to that was him vs Hardcore Holly in a street fight. That was the only official match I gave him. Holly "injured" him and he was never used again until the CS version came out 6 years later. It also irked me that ALL the first few WWF Big Show releases (bca and first 2 ttls) were street clothes. Sure I brought him in to my fed as soon as he was released...........but he didn't get his first match for 4 months!

Well the Rocky line had some street gear figures Rocky made sense, I know I would've been pissed if they didn't make him in his Siberian workout gear or Tommy Gunn streetfight windbreaker combo, but the fact that Jakks made ring gear Austins and Shamrocks so few and far between is just silly. I know I'd passed on at least one Austin in wrestling attire, but that's because he had the ridiculous Shamrock (?) boot/kickpad combo. I eventually did happen across the Bad 2 The Bonz set for cheap off of AFR, but he sure had a helluva lot of scuffles take place in his hunting gear. Funny you should bring the TTL Shamrock and Big Show up, ricflair4ever, because I had to suffer through those times, as well. Ugly-ass apeman TTL 2 Big Show was my go-to figure to use on the Trash Talkin' Stage for years and I thought Jakks was just toying with us by making TTL 4 so damn hard to find (the non-RS TTL figures were clogging the pegs at my local stores for what seemed like forever) and the closest Sam's Club is a state away...and the figure from that set was equally as ugly as TTL 2.
