Also if they are not, do they serve the same purpous, because I just put it on a custom and damn it looks weird.
And another question, is doing an elbow switch, similar or basically the same to a knee switch?
And another question, can paint still be apliied after appliing varnish?

..Varnish is for wood.... And Doing a elbow switch is the same thing as a knee switch..But it's called a Fore Arm switch.

well there is clear paint varnish too. I've used it to seal paint before, I don't like it because it is really shiny, and if you touch it when its wet it can stay sticky. And it is hard to wash off of brushes. So I wouldn't recommend it, but it is possible.
Why do you want to remove the elbows? I would suggest removing wrist/hand if that would be sufficient because it is very easy.
