As far as I know, WWE confirmed that it maxes out at 720p on all devices. But, regardless, that's neither here nor there. Broadcast TV is no higher than 1080i regardless, so as long as you've got a great connection, you're viewing it almost exactly as it was shot and originally broadcast (if not better, because you're not getting the compression that cable TV suffers from.) But yeah, it looks pretty great. I'd echo a lot of the other recommendations listed here - Royal Rumble 2008, Summerslam 2009, Money in the Bank 2011, Extreme Rules 2012, TLC 2012, Summerslam 2013, Elimination Chamber 2014 (when it's available.) I'd also add Backlash 2009 to that list. Absolutely love that Cena/Edge Last Man Standing match. I usually hate that gimmick, because I find that the finish is always anticlimactic, but that match is awesome. WWE doesn't even broadcast Raw in 1080i, it's 720p, so you and NMS are 100% spot on. Not to mention, most of the Network content was originally recorded in standard definition, obviously. So you're just getting converted 720p with black bars on the side. Which is fine with me because it's still crystal clear compared to some of the exact same stuff I have on ripped DVDs or VHS roll overs. This makes sense since it's cheaper and less demanding on file (thus streaming) size to convert to 720 versus 1080. With WWE's video library size it was the best way to do it. If you want 1080p then you better be buying blu-ray, because that's the only way to get it until the tv companies catch up, and by that I mean complete 1080i broadcasting for all channels. There are still plenty of channels that still broadcast in 420p. I think E is one of them right? One of the shows my wife watches is fuzzy, and I think it's the Kardashian show. Our TV resolution and technology has always been ahead of content providers. |
