Smackdown #817: April 16th, 2015 – O2 Arena in London, England
As soon as the WWE signature finished flashing across the screen, a special version of the Smackdown intro played featuring the Union Jack. Cutting to the arena, the commentary team of Mauro Ranallo, Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton welcomed viewers to tonight’s episode.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman,” was heard and the crowd erupted. Paul Heyman stood in the middle of the ring and said it was about time he showed his face again. “At WrestleMania, the CONQUEROR, Brock Lesnar, did it again. Last year, he became the 1 in 21-1, and this year, the Beast conquered the Animal.” Heyman continued running through a list of Brock Lesnar’s accomplishments, before getting to his point. “Since WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar hasn’t been seen. And that’s on purpose. You see, when Seth Rollins stole the WWE World Heavyweight Title from him at the Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar had a rage inside of him that was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. You all saw it when he took out Hulk Hogan and Stephanie McMahon. He channeled that into beating Batista at WrestleMania and over the past few weeks, Brock has been training. Not that he needs to, honestly, but because when he returns, he doesn’t just want to win back his title. He wants to annihilate Seth Rollins. So, let this be a warning to you, Seth.” Before Heyman could finish, the Wyatt signature hit the screen. Bray Wyatt appeared in the ring, behind Heyman. Heyman took a step back and bumped into him, getting startled and stumbling backwards. Bray spoke, telling Heyman that’s not how things work around here. “You forget, little man, that the McMahons are no longer at the top of this food chain. Everything goes through me, even the desires of your so-called Beast.” Heyman nodded towards Bray and slowly backed away and out of the ring. The fans booed as he went up the ramp, but before exiting, Heyman stopped and turned towards the ring. “Mr. Wyatt, I’m glad you mentioned that you aren’t the McMahons. Because I must remind you that Brock Lesnar is also not the McMahons and he will not be pushed around. This Monday, I’m bringing my Beast to Raw and I’d like you to tell him, face to face, that he’s not in line for a shot at his title.” Bray began laughing as an unsettled Heyman headed to the back.
THE NEW DAY W/ XAVIER WOODS DEF. THE PRIME TIME PLAYERS IN 4:27; Before the match, the New Day got on the microphone and ran down the Prime Time Players, all while getting “New Day Sucks” chants. Despite the fans’ opinions, Big E and Kofi won it with Midnight Hour. A recap video was shown of Emma’s complaints about Paige on Raw. Bray Wyatt interrupted to tell her that he enjoys chaos and that Emma was on her own. Out came AJ Lee, Emma’s opponent at Backlash, to attack her with a kendo stick. Renee Young stood by with WWE Women’s Champion, AJ Lee. She asked about the use of the kendo stick last week. AJ said she wanted to remind Emma that she was a threat. “Emma doesn’t need to concern herself with Paige. I promised I’d get my revenge and taking this title was just step one.”
CHARLOTTE DEF. CAMERON IN 1:33; Charlotte dominated again, winning in short fashion. Summer Rae was shown watching on a monitor, with an annoyed look on her face.
A special shoutout was given to Hollywood Undead, for providing the theme song for Backlash, “Gravity.”
That led into a video package, focusing on the short history between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Kurt Angle. For the first time ever, they square off at Backlash.
Renee Young stood by backstage with the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Adrian Neville. She wanted his thoughts on getting pinned by Tyler Breeze on Monday, just days after beating him in a title match. Neville admitted it wasn’t his best night, but said he’s always been someone to pick himself back up. “As for Adrian Neville, The Miz and anyone else looking for a shot at this title, all you gotta do is ask. I’m not a hard man to find.”
FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE – ALBERTO DEL RIO DEF. ERICK ROWAN IN 7:42; This stemmed from Monday, when Alberto Del Rio confronted Bray Wyatt about his lack of chance since WrestleMania, and was put in this position. With no other Wyatt Family members around, Rowan used his power and pounded on Del Rio around the ring. Del Rio superkicked the steel steps into Rowan’s face, causing them to land on him. Del Rio hopped on top, scoring the victory. “Alberto Del Rio just picked up a big win and could be on the road to turning things around in 2015!” exclaimed Ranallo.
A recap aired of the confrontation between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan on Raw. Punk beat Bryan at WrestleMania, through underhanded tactics. Bryan made Punk tap out in a tag team match, evening the odds. Upset with this setback, Punk agreed to Bryan’s rematch challenge, and they’ll meet in a Submissions Match at Backlash.
Once again, Renee Young was standing by, this time with Daniel Bryan. She asked about Bryan’s main event match tonight. Bryan said that he and Randy Orton are not strangers to one another. “I honestly don’t think there’s anyone I’ve faced more in big matches. There’s not a lot on the line tonight, but I plan on making him tap out, just like I’m gonna do to CM Punk at Backlash.”
DOLPH ZIGGLER DEF. CURTIS AXEL IN 2:22; Dolph Ziggler worked at a fast pace in this one, hitting his superkick and Zig Zag in short order. After the match, Dolph spoke to the camera, telling Adrian Neville not to forget about the rematch they never finished.
In the back, Randy Orton was shown warming up when Cody Rhodes entered. Cody said he came in peace. “Look, I still don’t trust you. I’m here to see if you keep your word about sportsmanship. I gave you another match at Backlash because I’m ready to see the new and improved Randy Orton you’ve been touting.” Orton told Cody to watch closely, because he might learn something tonight.
Fans booed loudly as Damien Sandow made his way to the ring. Footage was shown from this past Monday, when Sandow surprised everyone by attacking John Cena after Cena defeated Heath Slater. Sandow entered the ring and retrieved a microphone, before silencing the audience. He said that people have tweeted him nonstop since Monday, asking why. “Seriously, people? I thought it was quite obvious. Allow me to take you back to almost two years ago. I won the Money in the Bank briefcase and was on top of the world. Then, John Cena happened.” Sandow directed viewers to the Titantron, where a WWE Network promoted video showed clips from October 28th, 2013. Sandow attempted to cash-in his briefcase on Cena, only to fail. “Ever since that night, my career has plummeted to the very bottom of the ladder. I will be honest with you people. I don’t blame John Cena for what happened. He simply defended his crown. What happened that night and to my career thereafter, was my fault. That being said, I still had to do what I did on Monday. My career hit a huge bump against John Cena and it’s against John Cena that I will rectify it.” Sandow closed things by challenging Cena to a match at Backlash.
NON-TITLE MATCH: ALEXANDER RUSEV W/ LANA DEF. MARK HENRY IN 1:37; In one of the most impressive displays in a career filled with them already, Alexander Rusev completely obliterated the World’s Strongest Man. Rusev made him submit to the Accolade in under two minutes.
THE LUCHA DRAGONS DEF. 3MB W/ DREW MCINTYRE IN 3:00; Last week, the Lucha Dragons beat a different combination of 3MB. It took them slightly longer this time around, but they continued to impress the WWE Universe.
In a dark room somewhere, Bray Wyatt spoke to the camera. He addressed Brock Lesnar, telling him he has an open invitation to Raw. “Please, Mr. Beast Incarnate. Join us. Bless us with your presence. I’m dying to show you who’s in charge now. This Monday, the irresistible force meets the immovable object. The Beast meets the Eater of Worlds.” Bray started laughing as the camera cut away. DANIEL BRYAN DEF. RANDY ORTON IN 10:29; As usual, these two showed off some impressive chemistry. Orton and Bryan had a friendlier exhibition than their past meetings, with both guys coming close to winning. Orton went for the RKO, but Bryan shoved him off into the corner. As Orton bounced out, Bryan trapped him in the Yes Lock. Orton struggled and fought to reach the ropes, but couldn’t and had to tap out. Daniel Bryan celebrated his victory, as Cody Rhodes walked out to the stage. Randy Orton sat up, holding his shoulder in pain. He stood and aggressively turned Bryan towards him. Cody stepped forward a bit, while Bryan put his hands up for a fight. Instead, Orton extended his hand. Bryan tentatively accepted and they shook. Orton raised Bryan’s hand in victory, while Cody watched from the ramp.

- Paul Heyman face to face with Bray Wyatt...I am surprised Heyman didn't have Lesnar with him because they are usually always together and I thought that Wyatt and his Family would be surrounding Heyman like a pack of vultures and they would attack him but since Brock is going to show up to RAW and he and Bray will be face to face I wonder if it will lead to a Wyatt/Lesnar feud?
- The New Day beating The Prime Time Players...I wonder if this is just the start of a heel run for The New Day in the tag team division? If it is then I wonder if it will culminate in them becoming future WWE Tag Team Champions?
- AJ Lee the WWE Women's Champion reminding everyone that she will get revenge on Emma well it makes sense if you know the history between these 2 women but also because AJ did beat Emma for the title at WrestleMania all be it in a Fatal 4 Way Match but still Emma being so concerned with Paige she has pretty much taken her eyes off the ball with AJ and AJ may as well take advantage but then again I wonder if Emma will take her focus off of Paige long enough to focus on AJ?
- Charlotte Flair with yet another win beating Cameron...The Queen is essentially building herself quite an undefeated streak ever since bursting on to the main roster she has beaten diva after diva so I wonder if it will culminate in her getting a future WWE Women's Championship match?
- Rollins/Angle for the WWE Championship at Backlash...now that definitely will end up being the main event because not only is it the title match but it is a dream match certainly one no one would have thought would ever see happen and it is happening but Angle he has shown in the past in his WWE career that when his back is against the wall like how it is at Backlash with the stipulation being that if he loses he can't get another WWE Championship match as long as Rollins is champion he usually comes out swinging but then again Kurt Angle does he have that ring rust? He hasn't been in a WWE ring well in a match on a WWE program in over 9 years while Rollins has been here day in day out but also in big match situations he just finds a way to win
- Neville proving himself to be quite the fighting champion as WWE Intercontinental Champion but I wonder who he will defend that title against at Backlash?
- Del Rio with a big win beating Wyatt Family member Erick Rowan in a Falls Count Anywhere Match...definitely did not anticipate Del Rio winning this match and why? Because Falls Count Anywhere usually would be in the favor of Rowan because not only is he bigger and stronger than Del Rio obviously but also the added factor of Harper and or Bray Wyatt showing up but surprisingly neither one of them did and Del Rio somehow got the job done but since he did it begs the question of where Del Rio goes from here?
- Bryan is confident about the main event well he and Orton do have a long history but I wonder if Punk will somehow show up in the main event either to cost Bryan the match or attack him post-match?
- Ziggler beating a former WWE Intercontinental Champion in Curtis Axel...well Ziggler of course is entitled to a rematch for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and he never really got his one on one rematch with Neville because it was interrupted by none other than The Miz and Tyler Breeze but with him getting this win over Axel Ziggler has to be in the conversation where Neville is concerned
- Cody Rhodes still shouldn't trust Randy Orton because Orton is a Viper he is a Snake and snakes have been proven to be the kind of creatures you don't trust because they are treacherous and will strike their venom at any time and Orton can do that at any time...Cody should know that about Orton especially considering they were both in Legacy together at one time or another
- Sandow explaining his attack on Cena...it is so understandable hell it makes so much sense considering the history because of the fact that it was Sandow's own spiral his own arrogance which cost him but it all started with John Cena or it all goes back to Cena in 2013 especially with the MITB briefcase I figured it was only a matter of time that some day one day that Sandow would try to get his revenge and he did by attacking Cena and now he wants a match with Cena at Backlash but will John Cena accept?
- Rusev the WWE United States Champion's undefeated streak still continues with him beating Mark Henry not just beating him but dominating The World's Strongest Man in record time I mean who can stop Rusev at this point? Can any one? I mean Rusev has had quite the rivalry with Roman Reigns lately but will he defend his title at Backlash against Reigns?
- The Lucha Dragons beat 3MB...I mean with that win Sin Cara and Kalisto have to be in contention for the WWE Tag Team Championships or at least they have to be in the discussion seeing as how ever since bursting on to the scene they have beaten tag team after tag team
- Lesnar/Wyatt showdown is bound to happen on RAW
- Bryan in the main event beats Randy Orton not just by pinfall well he beats him by submission by making him tap out to the Yes Lock...clear message sent to CM Punk considering Punk/Bryan their match at Backlash is a Submission Match but can Bryan get the job done at Backlash? Can he make Punk tap out? Or will CM Punk actually make Bryan tap out? CM Punk has the Anaconda Vice as his submission finisher but then again Bryan has the Yes Lock and both superstars are mat technicians both submission style wrestlers so something has gotta give and Rhodes shows up post match and when he does Orton turns Bryan around and Bryan thinking Orton is going to attack him Orton puts his hand out for Bryan to shake and Bryan shakes it and Orton raises Bryan's hand in victory now that I definitely did not expect

The last time Brock Lesnar was on WWE TV was WrestleMania 31 in this diary when he sent Batista to Suplex City sent Batista packing back to Hollywood and no one has seen Batista since so if Brock could do that to Batista then just think of what he could do to Bray Wyatt Bray Wyatt could go to Suplex City I mean just ask Batista or Stephanie McMahon or Hulk Hogan or The Undertaker or Daniel Bryan or John Cena or Randy Orton or Seth Rollins or CM Punk...Lesnar has taken them all to Suplex City in this diary so if Bray Wyatt thinks that he could even stand a chance of surviving in there with Brock he may have some serious guts that's for sure but Bray Wyatt has not only Harper & Rowan with him just in case Brock tries anything but he also is one for playing supernatural mind games as well so but then again Brock has dealt with the supernatural before that being The Undertaker but Bray Wyatt is not The Undertaker

Raw #1143: April 20th, 2015 – Times Union Center in Albany, New York
Following the WWE Signature and weekly Raw intro, the cameras cut right to the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. The commentary trio of Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and Booker T introduced the show. “We are live just six nights away from the return of Backlash and what a show we have in store for you tonight. The “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar returns to go face to face with Bray Wyatt, plus we will witness the in-ring return of Kurt Angle!” explained Cole. Before any of that, the music of the “Anti-Diva” hit as Paige made her way down to the ring. It’s her first appearance in two weeks, last seen chasing Emma down with a steel chair in the parking lot. Paige entered the ring and grabbed a microphone, saying she took a few weeks off to try and clear her head. “People kept telling me I was going off the rails. That I needed to take some time to get my focus back. So, I tried it. And you know what? It hasn’t changed a damn thing.” Paige said all she saw while she was away was Emma and all she could think about was how to hurt her. Surprisingly, Paige was interrupted by the theme of the Women’s Champion, AJ Lee. AJ talked as she walked to the ring, telling Paige to get in line. “Just because I have this title, doesn’t mean I’m done with Emma. This Sunday, I’m gonna hurt her. You can have the scraps I leave behind.” Paige let out a small laugh, not taking AJ seriously. “Come to think of it, AJ, I’m still not done with you either. Need I remind you that title belongs to me?” Before anything could go down between them, Emma’s music played as she walked out to the stage. With so much space between them, Emma oozed confidence. She told the two of them to quit bickering like old hags. “Don’t you get tired of this? You always argue over something. The Divas Title, the Women’s Title, the Bella Twins and now, little old me. None of this talk of hurting people or leaving scraps is going to matter. You two talk a big game, but it was I who put you both on the shelf, not the other way around. Last time I checked, I beat you two at every Pay-Per-View, until Nikki Bella got thrown in because you couldn’t get the job done on your own.” AJ Lee and Paige both stepped forward to leave the ring and head towards Emma, but the Wyatt signature hit the screen. Bray Wyatt appeared on the Titantron, saying he was enjoying this. “This has been fun and believe me, I’m not one to put a stop to something like that. But I have an announcement. This Sunday, as you all know, AJ Lee will face Emma for the Women’s Title. But, I’ve seen you recently Paige. Don’t listen to the naysayers. There’s nothing wrong with your recent train of thought. Embrace it. Embrace it next Monday night, because you will indeed get to pick up the scraps from Backlash. You will go one on one with Emma in a No Holds Barred Match!” The crowd roared, Paige smiled widely and Emma looked concerned. Bray added that if Emma won the title at Backlash, it would be on the line on Raw. He told AJ that she had a match coming up, but Paige was free to get a head start on next week. Paige headed towards Emma, who left to the back. NON-TITLE MATCH: AJ LEE DEF. LAYLA IN 2:00; A quick win for the Women’s Champion heading into Backlash.
In the back, Kurt Angle was shown talking on the phone. He implored the person on the line to get to the building quickly, because he needs his partner.
An advertisement ran to promote Backlash, which comes to you on the WWE Network this Sunday. CODY RHODES DEF. CM PUNK VIA DISQUALIFICATION IN 9:03; This past Thursday on Smackdown, the opponents for these two at Backlash, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, met in singles competition. This was a more aggressive match, with Punk continuing down that path. He grew frustrated when the Anaconda Vice couldn’t make Cody submit. Cody rallied and Punk saw himself in trouble, so he resorted to a cheap low blow, resulting in the DQ. Before Punk could do anything after the match, Randy Orton ran down to the ring. Punk exited with nothing further going down.
THE USOS DEF. BRODUS CLAY AND CURT HAWKINS IN 2:10; A quick victory for the top contenders for the Tag Team Titles. The Usos weren’t allowed to celebrate for long before the music of Tyson Kidd and Cesaro hit. They walked out onto the stage, flanked by Natalya, who carried their Tag Team Titles. As they walked towards the ring, Kidd and Cesaro threw insults at their upcoming challengers. Kidd called them pretenders, jokes and a team just living off their family name, with Cesaro adding in, “Fact,” after each. They were shut up when they got to ringside and the Usos took them out with stereo dives. The Usos laid into the Tag Team Champions with rights and lefts, until security rushed out to keep them separated.
Returning from break, Paul Heyman stood in the center of the ring. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman.” That simple sentence got a loud response from the WWE Universe. Heyman recapped his altercation with Bray Wyatt on Smackdown, before introducing the “Beast Incarnate” himself, Brock Lesnar. Brock made his way to the ring to a big pop and stood next to Heyman. Heyman reiterated that Brock never received his rematch at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after the Royal Rumble. The Wyatt signature hit, as Bray Wyatt and the rest of the Wyatt Family came down to the ring. The fans buzzed as Bray stood in the same ring as Brock Lesnar. Bray stepped in front of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, coming face to face with Brock. Bray spoke, saying he’s doing what Heyman wanted. “You dared me to step right here and tell this Beast, to his face, that he wasn’t in line for a title shot. Brock Lesnar. You are not getting your WWE World Heavyweight Title shot.” Brock stared a hole through Bray, who looked over Brock at Heyman. “This is your Beast? He’s grand, yes, but does he talk? Or is he more your ventriloquist dummy?” Heyman responded, saying Brock was holding back. “But need I remind you what happened the last time an authority figure got in Brock Lesnar’s face?” Bray turned his back to Brock and held out his arms, giving Lesnar a free shot. Confused, Brock turned to Heyman. Harper and Rowan pounced, clubbing away at Brock. Heyman exited the ring as his client got wailed on. Brock powered up, shoving Harper back and dropped Rowan with a big German suplex. Bray remained in position, while Harper charged at Brock. Brock also ducked his strike and nailed another German. Brock went after Bray, but the Wyatt signature hit the screen again, and when the lights came on, Bray was atop the stage. He addressed Lesnar again, telling him none of that changed his mind. “Look at you, with all your power and all your anger. And yet, what has it gotten you? Try as you may and try as you might, you’re not getting your title shot. This is a brave new world we live in. One where you don’t get what you want because you can throw people around. You have nothing to threaten me with, Brock.” A big smile flashed across Bray’s face, leaving Brock frustrated in the ring.
Renee Young interviewed WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. She asked for his thoughts on Angle’s potential partner. Seth said it didn’t matter. “I’m the champ around here. Whoever Kurt gets can’t hold a candle to me or my partner.” Renee asked if we could find out his partner before the match. Into the picture stepped the “Celtic Warrior” Sheamus. Seth said he called in a favor from his old Authority buddy and that Kurt has no chance tonight. “And he has even less of a chance at Backlash.”
JOHN CENA DEF. SANTINO MARELLA IN 3:05; One of the friendlier matches in John Cena’s recent stretch, the two shook hands before the match. Santino made the audience laugh a few times, before tapping to the STF.
Once the match was over, John Cena grabbed the microphone. He said there’s been enough talking tonight and he wasn’t here to take up too much time. “Damien Sandow, I accept your challenge for Backlash. If you think facing me in 2013 ruined your career, just wait until Sunday. I may just end it for good.” Cena dropped the mic and exited the ring.
Renee Young stood by with Summer Rae, who asked for this interview time. Summer said that she’s sick and tired of hearing about Charlotte all the time. “Who cares that her father was one of the greats? The focus should be on an A-Lister like me.” Summer challenged Charlotte to a match this Thursday on Smackdown.
ROMAN REIGNS DEF. GOLDUST IN 3:46; The cagey veteran Goldust put up a tough fight, but eventually fell to a Spear. Reigns signaled around his waist for the United States Title, but Rusev continues to duck his challenges.
Bray Wyatt spoke from a dark room somewhere backstage. He called the meeting with Brock Lesnar a lot of fun. “I’ve made my desire for chaos clear. So, let’s get even more chaotic. If Brock Lesnar wants a title shot that he can’t have, I think the best way to create more chaos is for him to see others getting the title shots they want. At Backlash, Roman Reigns gets a shot at Alexander Rusev’s United States Title. Can you picture it? Can you picture the chaos that rain over the WWE inside that ring? I can. And it’s beautiful.”
NON-TITLE MATCH: ADRIAN NEVILLE DEF. JUSTIN GABRIEL IN 4:45; It’s been a while since Adrian Neville got to compete against someone other than his opponents for Backlash. He and Justin Gabriel performed some high flying antics during this one, before Neville won with the Red Arrow.
Tyler Breeze’s music hit as he walked down to the ring, watching himself in his phone. Neville readied for a fight, but Breeze walked halfway around the ring before looking up from his phone. Dolph Ziggler rushed out to the ring and stood with Neville, preventing Breeze from getting in. This frustrated Breeze, who backed up and started towards the ramp. Neville’s music played again, as the threat was gone for now. Suddenly, Ziggler superkicked Neville. “What the hell did he do that for?” asked Michael Cole. Even Breeze was startled by this, but didn’t go back into the ring. Ziggler picked up the Intercontinental Title and stared down at it.
After Seth Rollins and Sheamus made their entrances, Kurt Angle came out to a thunderous pop. “For the first time in nearly ten years, Kurt Angle is about to compete in a WWE ring,” explained Michael Cole. Angle waited at the bottom of the ramp, while Seth had a laugh and pointed, assuming he didn’t find a partner. Then, the sound of a car revving up hit and the fans exploded as Dean Ambrose came out for the first time since WrestleMania. Seth Rollins looked like he’d seen a ghost. Dean reached the bottom of the ramp and fist bumped Angle before they headed in the ring. TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH: DEAN AMBROSE AND KURT ANGLE DEF. SETH ROLLINS AND SHEAMUS IN 12:40; Thanks to the tornado rules, this was a wild match. Seth Rollins did all he could to avoid Kurt Angle, but ran into trouble because Dean Ambrose badly wanted to get his hands on him. Sheamus was a powerhouse, doing everything he could to keep Seth safe and beat on his opponents. Unfortunately for him, Seth was nearly put in the Ankle Lock and once he wriggled free, he scurried up the ramp. That left Sheamus alone to get hit with Dirty Deeds and the Angle Slam to end it.
Seth Rollins watched from the stage as Dean Ambrose and Kurt Angle celebrated in the ring.

- Angle his first match on RAW in 9 years a whole decade since Kurt Angle has not only been in a WWE ring but a full decade since he last competed on RAW...the last time he did was 2006 and now fast forward 9 years later 2015 Angle's first match back before his WWE Championship match against the reigning defending WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins Angle and his partner who turns out to be none other than Rollins' former friend turned bitter rival Dean Ambrose as they beat the team of WWE Champion Rollins and Rollins' old Authority teammate Sheamus...it seems there is no ring rust on Kurt Angle almost like he hasn't missed a step and Rollins scurrying away leaving Sheamus to fend for himself I mean classic heel move but he obviously wanted no part of Angle
- WWE Intercontinental Champion Neville beating Justin Gabriel...all be it Tyler Breeze was there no doubt to try to either distract Neville or cost him the match but it didn't matter as Neville still got the win but then just when Breeze is about to rush Neville Ziggler shows up and then out of nowhere Ziggler superkicks the hell out of Neville...now that I didn't see coming at all I wonder if that was a heel turn from Ziggler? If it was then it was definitely unexpected to say the least but maybe I am reading too much into it or perhaps Ziggler hitting that Superkick on Neville was more or less a warning shot basically telling Neville that it is every man for himself at Backlash in the Fatal 4 Way Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship but I was expecting Miz to show up but surprisingly he didn't which was kind of surprising
- Reigns vs Rusev for the WWE United States Championship at Backlash...well Rusev his undefeated streak has been going on now for a year it marks the one year anniversary of his debut but also the one year anniversary of his undefeated streak and he has spent this long on top beating superstar after superstar hell he even beat the face of the company John Cena at WrestleMania 31 in order to retain the WWE United States Championship but now he has to face Reigns...could Reigns finally be the one to end Rusev's impressive streak? Or will Rusev continue this impressive run he has been on? I mean if you want to elevate Reigns then him being the one to end Rusev's streak pretty much solidifies Roman but then if Rusev wins it pretty much solidifies him even more as a credible monster heel in WWE...this match is the match I am probably looking the most forward to
- Reigns beating Goldust...I would have expected Rusev to show up during this match or even after the match to send a message to Reigns by attacking him or even putting him in the Accolade but with Reigns if he wanted to send a stronger message to Rusev then what he should have done is get a steel chair and then just start using it to wail on Goldust over and over again or spearing Goldust through the barricade would have been another message to send
- Summer Rae vs Charlotte on Smackdown this Thursday...I wonder if Summer Rae can actually beat Charlotte? I mean Charlotte Flair so far ever since she has come on to the scene she has been undefeated beating diva after diva so I wonder if she can keep her undefeated streak going or will it come to an end on Smackdown?
- John Cena's rise from the bottom continues with another win beating a lower midcarder yet again and this time it is none other than Santino...well Cena seeing him in this rise from the bottom working his way back up to the top I actually like it because in a sense it kind of redeems Cena in the eyes of the average fan especially seeing him work hard from the bottom working his way back up to the top it kind of gets the fans on Cena's side if you think about it and him accepting Sandow's challenge...I mean if he beats Sandow at Backlash then I wonder what else Bray Wyatt could have in store for John Cena?
- Brock Lesnar taking Harper and Rowan to Suplex City...I mean it was to be expected but then just when Bray Wyatt was about to taste Suplex City the Wyatt Family signature goes off and there is no sign of Bray Wyatt as he fully disappeared almost like he vanished...that was creepy no try eerie but sooner or later Bray Wyatt is going to go to Suplex City it is almost inevitable
- But since Lesnar is not getting his rematch for the title then I wonder where that leaves Brock? I can see him disappearing off of WWE TV for now but Lesnar will probably end up working SummerSlam...I think that is when we will see Brock again in this diary but as for who he faces at SummerSlam 2015 is anyone's guess really
- The Usos #1 Contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships beating Brodus Clay and Hawkins that is an unlikely pairing as far as tag teams go in the WWE but hey I have seen stranger tag team pairings but still seeing The Usos getting the win I mean The Usos ever since they have returned they have more or less been hot coming back into the WWE Tag Team division so to see the champions WWE Tag Team Champions Kidd & Cesaro show up post-match with Natalya only for The Usos and Cesaro & Kidd to end up brawling...I mean it makes sense given these 2 teams are going at it at Backlash with the titles on the line
- Cody Rhodes' hot streak continues as he has been hot ever since the year 2015 started I mean he lasted the longest of any superstar in the 2015 Royal Rumble Match in this diary lasting 50 minutes making it to like the final 5 or final 4 and then Fast Lane beat Sheamus and then at WrestleMania beat his former Legacy teammate and mentor Randy Orton and then here beats CM Punk all be it by DQ...well I mean Punk wasn't able to put Rhodes away so of course he was going to get himself DQed but I just figured that either Bryan would show up during this match and Punk would get so distracted that Rhodes would take advantage or Orton would show up and Rhodes would get distracted and Punk would take advantage but seeing Orton come to Rhodes' rescue just as Punk was about to do some serious damage...now that I was not expecting but I would have expected that somehow Orton would turn around and RKO Rhodes after it was said and done or maybe Orton is just waiting for the right time to turn on Rhodes
- WWE Women's Champion AJ Lee beating Layla in rather quick succession I mean AJ Lee ever since winning the title she has been on a tear so her winning this match here doesn't really come as a surprise
- But the opening of RAW now this I loved and why? Because Bray Wyatt showed that he can definitely run RAW...I mean AJ Lee has to defend her title at Backlash against Emma and Paige then gets her shot at Emma the night after Backlash but in not just any match a No Holds Barred Match and provided Emma wins the title back she would then have to defend her title against Paige in the No Holds Barred Match I mean those are some momumental announcements if I do say so myself...I mean will there be anything left of Emma?

NXT #274: April 22nd, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
JOHNNY GARGANO AND TOMMASO CIAMPA DEF. THE LEGIONNAIRES IN 3:06; Getting right into the action this week, the new duo of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa continued their momentum by besting Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis. They won following a superkick/knee strike combo on Louis.
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviewed Baron Corbin. She asked him about his recent issues with Shelton Benjamin. Corbin called them “non-issues” because Benjamin isn’t on his level. “My job is to beat people up and they pay me handsomely for it. Shelton Benjamin had that job before and failed at it, so he’s back to try again. I don’t care what he does against Finn Balor tonight, because if he ever steps in the ring with me, I’ll send him back to China or Spain or wherever he’s been for the past few years.”
An advertisement ran to promote Backlash, which airs this Sunday on the WWE Network!
Devin Taylor interviewed Dana Brooke, asking what’s next for the “Total Diva.” Dana first admitted that the loss to Charlotte was a setback. “But Charlotte knew how close I was to beating her, in only my second match, so she tucked her tail between her legs and ran for Raw and Smackdown.” Dana added that with Charlotte in her rearview mirror, she was turning her attention to the NXT Women’s Title.
SOLOMON CROWE DEF. EVAN BOURNE IN 6:01; Both men competed in recent weeks, with Bourne picking up a win and Crowe struggling. That changed here, in a rematch from TakeOver a few months ago. Bourne got put in the Stretch Muffler and had no choice but to submit.
William Regal was shown in his office, when NXT Champion Kevin Owens entered. Owens wanted to know why Regal asked him there. Regal informed him that he chose his next challenger for the NXT Title. “By virtue of a string of victories in recent weeks, your opponent at TakeOver: Unstoppable, will be Hideo Itami.” The crowd popped, but Kevin Owens was livid. He screamed his protest in Regal’s fact. “This is because of what happened with Finn Balor isn’t it? He’s your little golden boy of NXT and when I was about to end him, Hideo stuck his nose in my business and you want to reward him.” Regal advised him to step back, which Owens did, only after knocking things off Regal’s desk.
An ad was shown to promote the upcoming WWE gear from Tapout.
ALEXA BLISS W/ BLAKE AND MURPHY DEF. BRIT BAKER IN 2:29; A relatively easy victory for Alexa Bliss, captured by hitting Twisted Bliss.
Viewers were taken to a special video package showcasing Bayley. The woman formerly known as Davina Rosa has dreamt about being a professional wrestler her entire life. Bayley read an essay she wrote in high school about wanting to be Women’s Champion and an elite performer. At TakeOver: Fatal-4-Way, Bayley came closer than ever to achieving that dream, only to tap out at the hands of Sasha Banks. Instead of staying down, Bayley picked herself up and clawed back to the top. She now has one more shot at the title at TakeOver: Unstoppable. The wrench thrown in is the addition of Becky Lynch, who will be the feature in next week’s Women’s Title preview video.
A WWE Shop advert ran.
NON-TITLE MATCH: AUSTIN ARIES AND BOBBY ROODE DEF. RIDDICK MOSS AND TINO SABBATELLI IN 1:32; NXT’s Tag Team Champions quickly put away their opponents in dominating fashion.
Devin Taylor stood by with Hideo Itami. She asked him for his thoughts on being named the number one contender for the NXT Championship. Hideo said it’s what he’s been waiting for since coming to NXT. Finn Balor entered the picture, staring down Hideo. Finn broke the tension by extending his hand. Hideo shook it and Finn congratulated him. “Nobody deserves it more. Now I’m gonna go out there and win, get back on track and after you beat Kevin Owens for the NXT Title, I’m coming for the first shot.” Hideo nodded in agreement.
SHELTON BENJAMIN DEF. FINN BALOR IN 10:21; The struggles continued to for Finn Balor. He looked great early on, overwhelming Benjamin with his speed. Shelton gained control by overpowering Balor. They traded offense until Finn delivered Bloody Sunday. Benjamin got his foot on the bottom rope to break the pin, frustrating Finn. He climbed to the top for the Coup de Grace, but it gave Benjamin the time to get up. He jumped to the top and pulled Finn off with an avalanche Paydirt to score the win.
“Shelton Benjamin just picked up his biggest win since arriving here in NXT,” said Jason Albert. Shelton Benjamin celebrated and left up the ramp. Once he was gone, Finn Balor sat in the center of the ring with a dejected look on his face. “For his first few months here, Finn Balor was unstoppable. That loss to Kevin Owens has stumped him. Where does he go from here?” asked Rich Brennan.

- Finn Balor needs to embrace his inner Demon and become "The Demon King" that is where Balor needs to go that is who he needs to become especially if he wants to get back to the promised land because well as himself he just isn't cutting it anymore I mean a back and forth match against a veteran like Shelton Benjamin and losing but ever since losing his opportunity at the NXT Championship The Demon needs to be summoned
- Hideo Itami vs Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship...I wonder if Itami will be able to get the job done?
- Yeah a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women's Championship...Bayley may be the sentimental favorite going in but is she really the favorite? I mean Sasha Banks is the NXT Women's Champion but then again she has the odds stacked against her she has to face not just Bayley but she has to face Becky Lynch in the same match she essentially has to defend her title against not 1 but 2 women and she doesn't even have to be pinned or be made to submit she doesn't even have to be involved in the decision to lose her title...so I wonder if with Bayley and Becky Lynch if they do end up forming some kind of pact well to ensure that one of them walks out the new champion but also to ensure that Sasha Banks loses her title
- Aries and Roode the NXT Tag Team Champions beating a jobber tag team I mean really? It isn't like this match was in doubt I mean seriously Aries and Roode ever since coming to NXT they have shown just how dominant they are not only as singles stars but as a tag team and they certainly proved that when they beat Enzo & Big Cass to become champions so it makes me wonder just which team will try their hand at trying to beat them for those titles?
- Dana Brooke setting her sights on the NXT Women's Championship that means I can imagine she will want to face either Sasha, Becky or Bayley well depending on whoever is NXT Women's Champion after TakeOver
- Gargano and Ciampa as a tag team here in NXT they can surely put the NXT Tag Team division on notice but also if there are any teams who can beat Aries/Roode then they are one of them

Cruiserweight Classic #4: April 22nd, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
Following the opening Cruiserweight Classic video and introductions from Mauro Ranallo and William Regal, viewers were taken to Bracketology. This week’s guest analyst was former Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. He hyped the matches for tonight and potential second round matchups
A video package ran to showcase the competitors in the opening contest. First up, Anthony Bennett. The man with the “freshest high top in the business” is a product of “The World Famous Monster Factory” and likes to have a good time. His opponent, Rich Swann, is also one of the more fun loving participants. Swann has won championships in places like FIP, Dragon Gate and RevPro. Despite being just 168lbs, he holds a 20lbs advantage over his opponent. CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – RICH SWANN DEF. ANTHONY BENNETT IN 3:44; Following the obligatory handshake, these two had a small dance off to the delight of the Full Sail faithful. Bennett showed off a few impressive offensive moves, but Swann was a step ahead. He advanced with a 450 splash and will face Andrade Almas in the next round. Viewers were taken to a video package that hyped the next match. First up, Sean Maluta. The 27 year-old is representing American Samoa in this tournament. He is a member of the hallowed Anoa’i wrestling family that has spawned some of the greatest names in this business, including Rikishi, Umaga, The Usos and Roman Reigns. His opponent is none other than the “Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay. The explosive Brit doesn’t turn 22 for another few weeks and is one of the youngest participants in this tournament. However, he’s already found plenty of success in places like PROGRESS and Revolution Pro Wrestling. He’s only been competing for just over three years to Maluta’s ten, but is considered a prodigy by name. CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – WILL OSPREAY DEF. SEAN MALUTA IN 6:44; This was one of the more competitive matches of the tournament. With Ospreay being the hotter, bigger name, many thought he would easily win this. Maluta was not to be denied though, busting out a running powerbomb and huge savate kick for near falls. Ospreay fought back and pulled out the victory with the Oscutter. In what’s sure to be a wild match, Ospreay faces Kota Ibushi in the next round.
Keeping the pace going this week, another video package followed the prior match. One participant in the next match didn’t need much of an introduction. Alex Shelley has been making waves in the industry for over a decade. The Detroit native has starred in places like Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, winning titles at every level. His opponent doesn’t have that kind of reputation, but isn’t letting that stop him. The brash Mexican has traveled the world in effort to become a top cruiserweight and winning this tournament solidifies that claim. He mixes stiff strikes with high flying and has appeared in places like AAA and Pro Wrestling NOAH.
CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – ALEX SHELLEY DEF. RAUL MENDOZA IN 5:25; The crowd was rather one-sided for this. Though Mendoza showed off some impressive moves, the fans were way behind Shelley. Mendoza came close with some flash pins, but was then trapped in the Border City Stretch, scoring Shelley the win. In round two, two veterans clash when Shelley meets The Brian Kendrick.
No messing around this week, going straight to the fourth and final preview video of the evening. This was the doozy. One of the top tag teams in the world for the past few years, the members of reDRagon drew one another in the opening round. Bobby Fish is the veteran, as the 35 year-old New York native has been competing for thirteen years. He has an MMA background and is known for mixing the mat wrestling with his heavy strikes. His usual partner and this week’s opponent, Kyle O’Reilly, wrestles a similar style. Blending ground work with stiff shots, the 28 year-old Canadian is just as lethal as his partner. Together, they’ve done amazing things, winning ROH’s World Tag Team Titles several times and capturing the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles last year. Separately, one has to give the edge to O’Reilly, who won more singles gold in his career.
Backstage, Devin Taylor conducted a rare CWC interview. She stood by with both Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, gathering their thoughts on this match. Kyle spoke first, saying he’s always felt like he belonged in the WWE and winning the Cruiserweight Classic would prove him right. Fish had a slightly different take. “You see, I had doubts I’d make it to this point. Not based on skill, because I am the best this tournament has to offer, but because my time seemed to have passed. How many guys are getting opportunities like this at 35? Kyle, I love ya, but if you think you or anyone else is getting in the way of this, you’re sorely mistaken.” With that, Fish walked away.
CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – KYLE O’REILLY DEF. BOBBY FISH IN 10:46; In what many would call the best match of the first round, the reDRagon partners went toe to toe. It started out as friendly competition, but aggression and determination took over Bobby Fish. He started bringing stiffer strikes and held a submission until the referee’s count of four. Kyle O’Reilly fired up, leaning into Fish’s shots and demanding he hit harder. Kyle delivered Ax and Smash, before applying Armageddon. Fish turned it over into a pin. Kyle kicked out and pulled Fish into a pin of his own to score the three count!
Bobby Fish couldn’t believe that he let this opportunity slip past him. Kyle O’Reilly backed into the corner, not fully believing that he pulled it out. Fish sat across from him, not breaking eye contact. Kyle eased forward and offered his partner his hand. Fish continued to stare blankly, before getting up on his own. The fans booed as Kyle watched his partner get ready to exit. Bobby stopped, turned and accepted Kyle’s handshake, before raising his hand. With that win, O’Reilly booked himself a second round matchup against Matt Riddle.
To close the show Chavo Guerrero spoke over clips from the first round as he set the stage for next week. The second round begins as the UK’s Marty Scurll takes on Japan’s Tajiri and Mexico clashes when Fenix goes one on one with Gran Metalik!

Smackdown #818: April 23rd, 2015 – Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island
The final stop before Backlash opened with the arrival of Dean Ambrose. Ambrose made his first appearance since WrestleMania this past Monday when he teamed with Kurt Angle against Seth Rollins and Sheamus. Dean addressed the WWE Universe, telling them that he was back for good. He left to lick his wounds and regroup after the disappointment of WrestleMania. “The plan is still to do two things. One, is to win that WWE World Heavyweight Title. The other, more pressing goal, is to beat Seth Rollins’ wormy ass all over every arena we go to.” Dean was interrupted by the arrival of Bray Wyatt on the Titantron. Bray welcomed Dean back to the WWE, but told him the same thing he told Brock Lesnar on Monday. “The inmates don’t run this asylum. Seth Rollins is not here tonight, but even if he was, you don’t just get what you want. I make the rules around these parts.” Dean informed him that nobody tells him what to do. Bray laughed and put Dean in a match against the undefeated Alexander Rusev tonight.
ADRIAN NEVILLE, DOLPH ZIGGLER AND JOHN CENA VS. DAMIEN SANDOW, THE MIZ AND TYLER BREZZE; The very popular trio of Neville, Ziggler and Cena held serve for most of this match. Ziggler got isolated as he opposing team cut the ring in half and used quick tags. Cena got the hot tag and cleaned house. Damien Sandow did his best to avoid him, before hitting a low blow behind the referee’s back. Miz attacked Neville outside, so Dolph tagged himself back in. Unfortunately, he walked into a Beauty Shot, giving Breeze’s team the win in 12:44.
A video package ran to hype the upcoming CM Punk/Daniel Bryan match at Backlash. The former partners clashed at WrestleMania, with Punk stealing a victory. Bryan made Punk tap out a few weeks ago and Punk will not let that be the last image of their rivalry.
Renee Young stood by with WWE Women’s Champion AJ Lee. She was asked for her thoughts on Paige and Emma meeting in a No Holds Barred match next Monday. AJ said that didn’t mean anything to her. “Whatever happens after Backlash is irrelevant because there won’t be anything left of Emma after I get done with her. She’s gonna pay for everything she’s done to me over the past five months.”
CHARLOTTE VS. SUMMER RAE; Charlotte has been impressive since arriving on the main roster. A jealous Summer Rae issued this challenge and found herself in trouble almost instantly. Summer escaped outside and caught a charging Charlotte with a knee to the stomach. She then choked Charlotte with a cable until the referee counted to five, causing a DQ in 2:28. Summer refused to let go while Charlotte’s face turned blue. Finally, an official managed to pry her off. “What the hell has gotten into Summer Rae?” asked Byron Saxton.
A vignette ran of the Ascension. They promised to take teams to the Wasteland and capture the Tag Team Titles.
RANDY ORTON VS. RYBACK; Cody Rhodes joined commentary to discuss the newfound respect between he and Randy Orton. Cody remained unsure of how legitimate it was. Ryback showcased the power we’ve all come to expect from him. He dominated portions of the match, but Orton connected on an RKO from out of nowhere to win in 8:04. Orton celebrated as Cody looked on. Somewhere backstage, the New Day addressed the WWE Universe. Xavier woods spoke first, saying there’s a disease in the WWE. “Everyone’s upset about something. Brock Lesnar can’t get the title shot he wants. Dean Ambrose is mad at Seth Rollins. Paige and AJ Lee basically want to destroy Emma. Everyone’s mad that Bray Wyatt’s running things.” Big E chimed in, saying everyone was being too negative. Kofi Kingston joined in, “You see, negativity is the disease and we, we are the cure.” The New Day said they would remedy the infection that is negativity in the WWE.
THE LUCHA DRAGONS VS. THE PRIME TIME PLAYERS; Two of the more popular tandems in the WWE competes in an effort to move up the tag team ranks. Titus O’Neil’s power gave his team the upper hand for a while, before Sin Cara and Kalisto began flying around the ring. O’Neill was taken out by a Cara tope suicida, leaving Darren Young open to fall to the Salida Del Sol in 5:28.
A special video package aired to hype the upcoming WWE World Heavyweight Title match at Backlash. Highlights of Kurt Angle’s return and rivalry with Seth Rollins were shown, set to “Gravity” by Hollywood Undead.
NON-TITLE MATCH: ALEXANDER RUSEV W/ LANA VS. DEAN AMBROSE; This first time ever match saw Alexander Rusev toss Dean Ambrose around with relative ease. Ambrose refused to quit, finding ways to rack up several near falls. He hooked Rusev for Dirty Deeds, but Rusev shoved him to the outside, falling out with him. While there, WWE Champion Seth Rollins ran out and superkicked Dean as he got up, resulting in a DQ at 10:56.
Seth Rollins rolled Dean Ambrose in the ring, where Alexander Rusev followed. Seth set up for the Curb Stomp, when Roman Reigns’ theme hit the speakers. The fans erupted as Reigns rushed to the ring. He went to attack Rollins, but the WWE Champion ducked and slithered out of the ring. Rusev leveled Reigns with a right hand and backed him to the corner. He continued to pummel him until Ambrose nailed him from behind. Rusev fought him off a bit, but turned around into a Superman Punch. He rolled outside, while Seth backed up the ramp, leaving Reigns and Ambrose to stand tall together in the ring.

- WWE United States Champion Rusev in the main event beats Ambrose all be it by DQ...because of Rollins showing up and superkicking Ambrose and just when the WWE Champion Rollins and the WWE United States Champion Rusev were about to attack Ambrose double-teaming him Reigns shows up to make the save for Ambrose...well it makes sense given that Reigns is facing Rusev for the WWE United States Championship at Backlash but also Reigns too has a history with Rollins not only because of their Shield days but also because of the fact that Rollins beat both Reigns and Ambrose at WrestleMania to retain his WWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match
- The Lucha Dragons beating The Prime Time Players I wonder if that means they are in the discussion in the conversation as far as getting a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship? I mean Kalisto & Sin Cara they get the next shot at whoever wins at Backlash that being whoever are the WWE Tag Team Champions whether it be Kidd & Cesaro or The Usos but then how about The New Day?
- Orton beating Ryback I wonder if Rhodes was about to get involved in the match? By that I mean since Cody was on commentary I wonder if he was going to actually think about getting involved and then Ryback taking advantage with Orton being distracted but that didn't happen...Orton wins the match but at the same time Cody needs to strike now before Orton turns on him because we all know that he will it is only a matter of time and if Cody were smart he would turn on Orton before Orton turns on him
- The Ascension also in the WWE Tag Team division too on top of it I mean the WWE Tag Team division is just heating up
- Charlotte Flair wins yet again with her undefeated streak staying in tact...she beats Summer Rae all be it by DQ because of Summer Rae getting herself DQed...attacking Charlotte leaving her laying I mean I think all signs point to Charlotte facing off against Summer Rae at Backlash
- WWE Women's Champion AJ Lee well she doesn't care about Emma and Paige in a No Holds Barred Match but then again she has to defend her title against Emma at Backlash so I wonder what AJ is going to do to maintain the upper hand heading into Backlash?
- Sandow, Miz and Breeze beating WWE Intercontinental Champion Neville, Ziggler and Cena in 6 Man Tag Team action...well I am wondering how Neville and Ziggler were able to co-exist considering Neville was superkicked by Ziggler on RAW this past Monday I would have figured that Neville would try to retaliate and turn on Ziggler but then seeing Sandow get a low blow on Cena...that was something
- Bray Wyatt is still running things I mean so far ever since he has taken over since he came into power when he beat Triple H at WrestleMania 31 with Triple H's power on the line he has made things much more chaotic but at the same time you have to admit ever since he has taken over WWE has become more exciting

The Kickoff Show opened with shots of the crowd filing in at the Allstate Arena before our esteemed panel of Renee Young, Booker T, Byron Saxton and future Hall of Famer Chris Jericho. Jericho spoke about his affection for the Allstate Arena, as he’s had great matches there and it’s the building where he made his debut. They discussed some of the matches tonight, including CM Punk facing Daniel Bryan in a Submissions match. Jericho noted that no matter what horrible things CM Punk does, this arena will treat him like a god. They talked about a few more things for tonight, before sending things to the ring for our Kickoff match.
CHARLOTTE VS. SUMMER RAE; This past Thursday on Smackdown, Summer Rae challenged Charlotte, only to choke her with a ringside cable until she turned blue. On a WWE.com interview, Summer stated that Charlotte didn’t belong in her position and only got it because of her last name. Charlotte came out aggressively, going after Summer and being held back by the referee. “Charlotte has every reason to be livid,” said Michael Cole. Once the match began, Summer went outside and ran from Charlotte. She slid in, looking for a cheap stomp, but Charlotte avoided it. “When you’re the daughter of the dirtiest player in the game, you learn a thing or two,” said Jerry Lawler. With her plan having backfired, Summer was in a world of trouble, taking a beating from Charlotte. The former NXT Women’s Champion went to work on Summer’s neck with a variety of moves. Summer avoided a moonsault and hit a big spinning heel kick for a near fall. She added a snap suplex, before choking Charlotte with her boot in the corner. She went for the Summer Crush, but Charlotte blocked it and grabbed her leg. She tripped her down to go for the Figure Four. Summer pulled her into a small package for another two count. As they got up, Summer charged with a clothesline, but Charlotte dropped into a split to duck it. Once up, she dropped Summer with a big boot. As Summer got to her knees, Charlotte hit Natural Selection to score the win. Charlotte defeated Summer Rae in 5:04! “Charlotte has shut Summer Rae and proven that she belongs here on the main roster,” said Jerry Lawler. The self-proclaimed “Queen” celebrated her win over Summer Rae. In an act of arrogance, Charlotte wiped her feet on the mat, basically kicking proverbial dirt on Summer Rae.
Following the signature WWE intro, a video package set to Hollywood Undead’s “Gravity” was shown. It opened with Kurt Angle stepping through the curtain as he returned the night after WrestleMania. His rivalry with Seth Rollins comes to a head tonight in Angle’s first WWE World Heavyweight Title match in nine years. The wildcard is the recently returned Dean Ambrose, who has an unsettled score with Rollins. The video then shifted focus to the undefeated run of Alexander Rusev. He had his greatest moment at WrestleMania, where he sent back the challenge of 14-time World Champion, John Cena. On that same night, Roman Reigns couldn’t beat his former Shield brothers, losing in the main event. Tonight, Reigns takes his best shot at Rusev. Lastly, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are former Tag Team Champions and friends. Punk turned on Bryan, leaving them in the midst of a heated rivalry that saw Punk go as far as to hit Bryan’s wife, Brie, with a Go to Sleep. Punk underhandedly won at WrestleMania and refused to give Bryan a rematch, until Bryan made him tap out. Not wanting it to end that way, Punk agreed to a Submissions match for tonight.
Cameras cut to the sold out Allstate Arena, as the commentary trio of Mauro Ranallo, Byron Saxton and Booker T welcomed everyone to Backlash.
DAMIEN SANDOW VS. JOHN CENA; Since WrestleMania, John Cena’s been running through the roster in an effort to get back into title contention. Standing in his way was Damien Sandow, a man who lost to Cena in his one World Heavyweight Title shot. “You can see the disdain on Damien Sandow’s face,” said Byron Saxton. They went to lock up, only for Sandow to rake Cena’s eyes. From there, he backed Cena into the corner and fired away. He continued with stomps before connecting on a DDT for two. Sandow made a mistake by setting too early on a backdrop, allowing Cena to hop on his back and hit a rare Code Red for a near fall. “Where did that come from?” asked Mauro Ranallo. Despite being the first to bust on a big offensive move, Cena was grounded by Sandow, who looked to negate Cena’s power. He hit the Elbow of Disdain, complete with a loud, “You’re welcome” to the crowd. Sandow added a neckbreaker, only for Cena to fire back up. He hit a flurry of offense, including the Five Knuckle Shuffle, before delivering the Attitude Adjustment. He was too hurt to make the cover instantly, though, allowing Sandow to roll to the apron. Cena grabbed him for a suplex into the ring, but Sandow wriggled free, landing on his feet behind Cena. From there, he delivered Terminus. Cena got his shoulder up and Sandow was bewildered. “I think Sandow is beginning to doubt himself,” said Saxton. As he went to lift Cena, he ate a right hand. Sandow escaped a second Attitude Adjustment, only for Cena to trap him in the STF, causing Sandow to tap out. John Cena defeated Damien Sandow in 7:35!
John Cena leapt to his feet and pumped his fist. “We don’t know what’s next for John Cena, but we do know that he’s one step closer to a shot at some championship gold again,” said Ranallo. A shamed Damien Sandow rolled out of the ring, while a very serious Cena looked determined on his road back to the top of the WWE.
In the back, Renee Young stood by with WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. She asked him about having to look over his shoulder for Dean Ambrose when he needs to focus on Kurt Angle. Seth scoffed at this, saying it didn’t concern him. “Renee, when you’ve got this championship, you’re the best. Kurt Angle doesn’t worry me and neither does Dean Ambrose. I crushed his hopes and dreams at WrestleMania and I’m gonna do the same to Kurt Angle. Neither of them should’ve wasted their time returning.”
WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS – TYSON KIDD AND CESARO [C] W/ NATALYA VS. Kidd found himself isolated, as the former two-time champs used frequent tags to wear him down in the corner. Kidd slipped free with an enziguri and got the tag to Cesaro. The strong half of the time hit everything moving, mowing down both Usos with uppercuts and a variety of slams. “Cesaro was built for this kind of thing,” said Saxton. He launched Jey in air with the popup uppercut, but Jimmy broke up the count. Jey remained the legal man, now being the one picked apart by his opponents. Kidd and Cesaro focused on his back, leading to Kidd applying the Sharpshooter. Jimmy charged in, but Cesaro put him in on as well! The fans popped for the stereo Sharpshooters, but the referee forced Cesaro to break to get back to his corner. Meanwhile, Jey reached the ropes. Kidd tagged out and they set for the big swing/dropkick combo. However, Jey pulled Cesaro into a small package. Kidd broke it up, but Jey slipped away and tagged in Jimmy as the referee moved Kidd back to the apron. Jimmy came in with superkicks and Samoan drops galore. He hit a splash off the top, but Natalya got on the apron. She shouted, “They never tagged! The twins switched behind your back,” to the referee. Jimmy gave her a confused look, but the pause was enough for Cesaro to get up and run through him with an uppercut that sent him flying into the turnbuckles. Kidd pulled Jey off the apron, while Cesaro covered Jey for the victory. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro defeated The Usos to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships in 12:35!

An advertisement ran to plug the highlights of the WWE Network for the month of May, including the return of the Elimination Chamber, on May 31st. Before the next match, a video package was shown. Back in November, Emma turned her back on her best friend, Paige, and won the elusive WWE Women’s Championship. During her reign, the paranoid woman sent back all challengers, but things were taken to the next level with AJ Lee. Not only did Emma beat her at TLC, but she also sent AJ to the hospital after kicking her head into a mirror. AJ dethroned Emma at WrestleMania, and though Emma was granted her rematch, she’s had to deal with Paige threatening her on a weekly basis. AJ Lee was sure to remind Emma that Paige was not her biggest concern, promising to leave next to nothing of Emma for Paige tomorrow night on Raw.WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP – AJ LEE [C] VS. EMMA; The usually confident Emma remained as tentative as she’s been since Paige began stalking her. That was only heightened when AJ Lee charged her at the bell and tackled her to the ground. Emma rolled outside to escape, but AJ followed. AJ threw her into the barricade and the announce table. Emma finally managed to grab AJ and pull her into the ring post. She broke the count, before taking a moment to gather herself. Having the advantage, Emma grounded AJ and put her focus on the neck. “If she can apply the Emma Lock, AJ Lee might have no choice but to tap out,” said Mauro Ranallo. Emma delivered the Emmamite Sandwich in the corner and threw in the Dilemma, but AJ Lee refused to stay down. AJ kicked Emma in the leg, dropping her to a knee, where she then hit a Shining Wizard. She went for the cover, but stopped. “What is she doing?” asked Saxton. AJ picked Emma up and tossed her into the corner. She then unloaded a flurry of kicks, sending Emma to the ground. She continued the assault with a DDT and neckbreaker. Finally, AJ applied the Black Widow, but Emma was too close to the ropes. The referee began his count, with AJ making sure to hold on until he reached four. She let Emma go and dragged her to the middle of the ring, looking to put the hold back on. Emma wriggled free and planted AJ with the Michinoku Driver! She took a moment to cover, giving AJ just enough time to get a shoulder up. Emma was stunned, but also still hurt. She tried slapping on the Emma Lock, only for AJ to roll over and kick her to the ropes. AJ quickly got up and caught the rebounding Emma in the Black Widow! She exited with her title, leaving Emma to lick her wounds. “In about 24 hours, Emma’s gotta regroup and face a dangerous Paige in a No Holds Barred match,” said Mauro Ranallo.

Miz claimed Summer shouldn’t have put herself in that situation. “My career comes first. I’m the reason she’s a star and she needs to understand that. That being said, I don’t need her to win the Intercontinental Title tonight. I’ve done this very thing on my own twice before.” Miz guaranteed to make it a third tonight, with or without Summer.

A furious Punk took a moment to collect himself. He saw Bryan getting up slowly and considered something. He decided to go for it, successfully hitting a tope suicida.
