Monday Night Raw: July 7th, 2014 – Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Before the weekly Raw intro video, we see a video package that recaps the events of last Monday night between the Shield and the Wyatt Family. Once the show actually begins, we don’t get pyro or introductions, just the theme music of the Shield as the fans in Montreal leap to their feet. They come in through the crowd, clearly meaning business once they enter the ring. Roman Reigns surprisingly grabs the microphone first, keeping it short and to the point as always. “We told you what we wanted on Main Event last week. Wyatt Family…get your asses out here now!” The fans cheer, though it’s a few seconds before the Wyatt Family appears on the titantron. “Montreal…we’re here.” The Wyatts come out to the stage, where Erick Rowan places the rocking chair for Bray Wyatt to sit down, while Luke Harper flanks them. Bray has a microphone and begins by saying that he heard the Shied loud and clear on Main Event. “You boys want us again, but did you not learn from experience? You simply cannot defeat us. This is a losing battle, just like the one Dean Ambrose fought on Smackdown.” Ambrose takes a step forward but Reigns and Seth Rollins hold him back. Bray continues by claiming that there is no reason for the Wyatts to face them again. “I am an evolved mind, I don’t look back and neither does my family. Why would we step into a war with the three of you again? There is no point, there is no purpose.” Rollins speaks, being the calmest of the three Shield members. He repeats most of what was said on Main Event, about how the Wyatt Family is the only team the Shield has never defeated and that the three of them will do whatever it takes to get another match. Bray ponders this and begins to laugh. He says that he has an idea. “You see this mind of mine doesn’t work in the same way that the mind of a normal person works. We will give you your match, on one condition. Roman, you have to beat me at Battleground.” Roman quickly takes the microphone and agrees, but Bray isn’t done. “Oh Roman, you see I’m not going to do this without getting something in return. So here’s my proposal. If you win, you get your match. But if I win…oh yes, if I win, then you must become a member of our family.” Roman thinks it over, as Ambrose and Rollins discuss it with him. While they are huddled up, the camera catches Bray Wyatt smiling from ear to ear. The Shield turn back and Roman agrees to the stipulation. Bray starts to laugh again as we cut to commercial with our first match for Battleground set.
NON-TITLE MATCH: THE USOS VS. ERICK ROWAN AND LUKE HARPER; Following the commercial break, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are in the ring, awaiting their opponents. When the Usos are announced, the fans pop knowing that this will be an intriguing matchup. Harper and Rowan use their power to take some control, isolating Jey Uso. They work through a commercial break before the hot tag comes to Jimmy Uso. He comes in hitting the powerful duo with everything he has. At this point, Randy Orton and Batista begin to stroll to the ring. Jimmy delivers a loud superkick to Rowan before climbing to the top. Before he leaps, he notices Batista and Orton. This slight distraction allows Rowan to hit the ropes, knocking Jimmy down. Harper comes in with a huge discus lariat and picks up the win. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper defeat the Usos in 15:40!The WWE Universe boos loudly as Erick Rowan and Luke Harper are announced as the winners. Batista and Randy Orton smirk, knowing that they just caused the Usos to lose. However, they seem to realize that a win for Harper and Rowan may have moved them ahead in the tag team ranks. “King, you’ve got to imagine that Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are in line for a future Tag Team Title shot” says Michael Cole.
ADAM ROSE VS. HEATH SLATER w/ 3MB; To those that have never seen Adam Rose’s entrance, it was quite the spectacle here. The Exotic Express was rather huge, leaving Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal rather surprised and appalled. Once the match starts though, Rose proves to the main roster audience that he’s not one to be overlooked. He reels off some impressive offense before putting away Slater using the Party Foul. Adam Rose defeats Heath Slater in 2:22!
The party starts back up as the Exotic Express dance around the ring. Adam Rose crowd surfs into them and they carry him up the stage, leaving 3MB looking on in disgust. It’s a successful debut for Adam Rose, as he begins his WWE career 1-0.
Returning, Alexander Rusev and Lana are standing in the middle of the ring as the crowd boos loudly. Lana says some of the same things that she said on Smackdown last week, claiming that Alexander Rusev is the “Super Athlete” and is unstoppable. “None of these puny pretenders have been able to last five minutes with the Bulgarian Brute. That is embarrassing and the entire WWE roster should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone from has-beens like Jim Duggan and the Patriot to a legend like Booker T to strong men like Mark Henry. They all try and they all fall to Rusev. Who wants to be next to fail so miserably?” There is silence for a bit until the lights suddenly dim and a relatively unfamiliar theme hits. Out onto the stage steps the NXT Champion Adrian Neville. A good chunk of the crowd come to their feet as he walks down to the ring with the title draped on his shoulder. When he enters, Lana gives a laugh and asks if he’s really out here to fail. He responds saying that he’s out here because he’s the NXT Champion which means he’s one of the best in the world. “So I’m not here to fail, I’m out here to take your $5000 and survive 5 minutes with you.” The crowd pops as he points to Rusev. Rusev seems enraged by this as Lana exits so the match can begin. ALEXANDER RUSEV OPEN INVITATIONAL: ALEXANDER RUSEV W/ LANA VS. ADRIAN NEVILLE; There is a buzz in the air as the fans are hoping Adrian Neville can be the one to shut up Alexander Rusev and Lana for once. Rusev clubs away on him, proving that he can be incredibly scary when he’s angry. Neville uses a back spin kick to wind him, following it with a few different strikes. He wows the audience with a standing shooting star press for two. He looks up at the clock before showing off another huge feat by dead lifting Rusev from the mat with a huge German suplex for two again. Lana looks extremely worried at ringside. Neville climbs to the top for the Red Arrow, but misses. With the clock ticking towards five minutes, Rusev stands over Neville as Lana screams “CRUSH!” He sets for the Accolade, only for Neville to slip out from under and dropkick him, sending him outside. With Rusev outside, the clock ticks down to the five minute mark and the bell rings. Adrian Neville wins the Alexander Rusev Open Invitational in 5:00!
Montreal erupts as someone has finally successfully won the Alexander Rusev Open Invitational. Adrian Neville makes a stunning debut here as the referee raises his hand. Lana is beside herself at ringside, trying to snatch back the $5000 from the timekeeper, but it’s to no avail. Neville is handed the money and celebrates by giving some of it away to the fans. Rusev is livid when he realizes what happened, but Neville is already up the ramp and nearly gone by then.
An ad is shown to remind everyone that every episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event from the 1980’s is now available on demand on the WWE Network! CESARO AND DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. KANE AND SHEAMUS; Two of the bigger new feuds in the company come together in a tag team match. Kane has been a thorn in Dolph Ziggler’s side since costing him the United States Championship, meanwhile Cesaro wants nothing more than to win the Intercontinental Title from Sheamus. The Authority members isolate the smaller Ziggler throughout, but once he makes the big tag to the “Swiss Superman”, all hell breaks loose. He comes in firing on all cylinders, hitting both Kane and Sheamus with big uppercuts. He goes for the Neutralizer on Sheamus, but the IC Champion gets free and tags in Kane. Kane goes for a Chokeslam, but Cesaro counters and hits the Neutralizer on him for the three. Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler defeat Kane and Sheamus in 10:51!The team of Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler have their hands raised in victory, picking up some momentum and a pretty big win over the Authority. Sheamus looks on from outside, enraged as Cesaro points to him and signals around his waist.
Backstage, Renee Young is standing by with the man that just did the unthinkable, Adrian Neville. She takes us to a recap of him lasting the five minutes of the Alexander Rusev Open Invitational and asks him for his thoughts right now. Neville responds, “I would say that this is unbelievable but that’s not the case. Renee, I’ve been working my ass off for years to get to where I am, and Rusev’s challenge gave me the opportunity I needed. Not only am I the reigning NXT Champion, but I’m here on Raw to stay. Prepare to take flight everyone, the Man That Gravity Forgot has arrived.” CODY RHODES W/ GOLDUST VS. FANDANGO W/ LAYLA; In the past few weeks, Cody Rhodes has reinvigorated his career by winning a series of singles matches. Tonight, he steps into the ring against someone who has been on the opposite track as of late. Fandango knows of his struggles, opting for some quick flash pins that aren’t enough to score the win. Fandango tries a spinning heel kick, but Cody is able to sidestep it. He follows with an uppercut similar to his brother’s, before hitting the Disaster Kick to win. Cody Rhodes defeats Fandango in 3:34!As Goldust enters the ring to congratulate his brother, Layla looks on with a saddened look on her face. Cody Rhodes runs to the second rope and poses, picking up even more steam. “It really seems like Cody Rhodes has turned a corner. We’ll see if Goldust can pick up a singles win later tonight, as he tries to get on track as well” says JBL.
We cut to see Bad News Barrett in the back, and he cuts a promo into the camera. He says that now that he’s Mr. Money in the Bank, everyone knows that he’s going to be a future WWE World Heavyweight Champion. “However, I don’t want people to forget that I am still your United States Champion. To remind you of how great I am, the Authority has given me permission on their day off to make an announcement. Tomorrow night on the WWE Network’s Main Event, there will be a Battle Royal. The winner gets a shot at this title at Battleground. It is open to everyone and normally, the winner would be a happy man. BUT I’M AFRAID I’VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS! You see, whoever wins will run right into a Bull Hammer and I will still be your United States Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank.”
Returning, the Bella Twins are shown preparing for their match later. Summer Rae enters and tells them that they need to let her handle the heavy lifting tonight because she is the star of the team and the one who will take the Women’s Title from Paige. She flips her hair and walks off, as Brie Bella gets up to confront her. Nikki stops her, telling her to chill. “Yes, Summer is rude and kind of a bitch, but you know what? She’s in line to get the next Women’s Title shot. We need to get back to worrying about the Bellas and not focusing on what these people want.” Brie goes to protest but Nikki cuts her off and just says that Brie knows she’s right.
As always, when the music of Daniel Bryan hits, the crowd comes to life. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion walks to the ring, shouting “Yes” at the top of his lungs along with the fans. He enters the ring and grabs a microphone, waiting for the crowd to die down. He thanks them for their continued love and reciprocates it, telling them that he does what he does for them. “Last week, someone issued a challenge to me. I wasn’t able to respond them, but I’d like to do so right now. So please, will you join me Punk?” After a few seconds of silence, “Cult of Personality” hits and CM Punk arrives to a major reaction from the crowd. He enters the ring and stands across from Bryan. Bryan speaks, saying that he heard his challenge loud and clear last week, but Sheamus beat him to responding. “I’m going to cut straight to the point. I accept your challenge and will gladly put my WWE World Heavyweight Title on the line against you at Battleground.” The crowd roars for this as Punk says that he knew Bryan would accept. “That’s one of the reason why we’ve been friends for so long. I know that you love competition, which is my addiction.” Punk offers a handshake that Bryan accepts, only to hear someone shouting “hey”. They look around and see Kane on the titantron. The Director of Operations is still holding his neck after his match earlier but addresses the two men anyway. “The both of you have been thorns in the side of the Authority, but I think that a title match between you is indeed, best for business. Hell, maybe the two of you will just destroy each other and we’ll be rid of you. However, we need a main event for tonight so I’ve come up with one while Triple H and Stephanie are away. Tonight, you two will team up and face the team that put Rob Van Dam and Kofi Kingston on the shelf last week, Batista and Randy Orton.” Punk and Bryan look at each other, knowing that they will team tonight but be opponents at Battleground.
CHRIS JERICHO VS. THE MIZ W/ SUMMER RAE; During the entrances, a recap airs of the return of both men last week, which ended with Chris Jericho drilling Miz with a Codebreaker. Miz yells at Jericho before the bell, shouting something about not messing with the “money maker”. Jericho looks at the fans before turning to Miz and slapping him across the face. This leads to the actual match, where Jericho is in firm control until Miz pokes him in the eye. Minutes later, Miz tries the Skull Crushing Finale, but Jericho slips free and trips him up. He tries the Walls, but Miz kicks him off. They fight in the corner, but from out of nowhere, Miz kicks Jericho low, causing the DQ. Chris Jericho defeats the Miz via disqualification in 5:34!The Miz doesn’t let up though, following the low blow with some vicious clubs to the back. Summer Rae eggs on the attack from the outside as Miz pounds away on Chris Jericho. He lifts him up and plants him with the Skull Crushing Finale. Miz stands over Jericho as Summer caresses his chest. He shouts down that he’s the real mega star around the WWE. THE BELLA TWINS AND SUMMER RAE VS. PAIGE, EMMA AND NATALYA; Despite having two teammates, the focus in the match is on Paige. The Bella Twins and Summer Rae have all made it known that they want to take the Women’s Title from her and bring back the Divas Title. Emma and Natalya get short in ring time, but Paige does the bulk of the work. She takes a bit of a beating from her opponents before tagging in Natalya, who hits some power offense. She runs into a big kick from Summer Rae, who then hits the Summer Crush. She hooks the leg and picks up the victory. The Bella Twins and Summer Rae defeat Paige, Emma and Natalya in 4:12!
The bell rings and the crowd boos as Summer Rae impresses with another win. The Bella Twins don’t really celebrate with her though as Nikki is instead talking to Brie in the corner. Summer blows a kiss at Paige, who responds by snatching a microphone from ringside. “You think you’re a big shot don’t you? You think that because you were handpicked to star in a movie, you deserve to hold this title? Go ahead and give it your best shot. You and me at Battleground. Do you accept?” Summer nods her head as the Bellas look on in a sour mood. ALBERTO DEL RIO VS. GOLDUST W/ CODY RHODES; As we saw earlier tonight, Cody Rhodes has been finding success running on his own. Goldust has had the opposite luck. This match takes on new meaning when Michael Cole informs us that both Alberto Del Rio and Goldust, along with Cody, will be in the number one contender’s battle royal tomorrow night on Main Event. Goldust starts hot but runs into trouble when Del Rio targets the arm. He is able to ride that arm work to victory when he forces Goldust to tap out to the Cross Armbreaker. Alberto Del Rio defeats Goldust in 4:38!As the bell rings, Alberto Del Rio doesn’t let the move go. He wrenches back even further, causing Goldust to scream loudly. Cody Rhodes slides into make the save, but Del Rio sees and breaks the hold, slipping out of the ring just out of Cody’s grasp. He stares Alberto down before turning to check on his brother. “I haven’t this vicious side of Alberto Del Rio before. That was completely uncalled for” exclaims Michael Cole.
Following an advertisement for the upcoming WWE Network this Saturday in Osaka, Japan, we are taken to Michael Cole. He reminds us of what Batista and Randy Orton did to Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam last week, showing footage. “Folks, we have now been informed that Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam will return live in Osaka, Japan this Saturday morning and they will be taking on Orton and Batista once again!”
At this moment, the music of Bo Dallas plays as the inspirational Superstars jogs out to the stage. A spotlight comes down on him as he stays up there, allowing the fans to boo. He starts by saying that he appreciates them “bo-ing” instead of booing. “You all just saw that footage of what happened to Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam last week. It was indeed a sad day in history of this business. Those are two great, hardworking Superstars and for that to happen to them…well it’s gotta be a pain in the neck.” He gets a chuckle out of the crowd for that remark, but they go back to booing when he declares their careers finished and asks for a moment of silence for them. He gets down on one knee, “Tebowing”, as we get about 20 seconds of attempted silence. You can clearly some fans during this, which upsets Bo. He angrily looks at them before telling them that what they did was disrespectful. “You people really stink, you know that?” Bo throws down his microphone and storms to the back. BATISTA AND RANDY ORTON VS. CM PUNK AND DANIEL BRYAN; Talk about your blockbuster main event matches. Considering the status of the four Superstars involved, this is one of the more star studded matches possible. Commentary mentions that with a WWE Championship match around the corner, there could be some tension between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. That actually happens to not be the case at all because their friendship comes into play and they work very well together. Batista and Randy Orton work just as well and have Bryan in trouble. The Champion is able to tag in Punk who comes in hot. He seems to be on the verge on the victory when he nails Orton with the GTS. Batista runs in, bringing Bryan in. A miscommunication leads to Punk and Bryan bumping into each other. Batista clotheslines Bryan out, while Orton shakes off the cobwebs and this Punk with an RKO to end the match. Batista and Randy Orton defeat CM Punk and Daniel Bryan in 11:03!
Batista and Randy Orton stand tall, raising their arms in the air after picking up another win as a tag team. Not only do they look ready for Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam in Japan, but they are looking more and more like the top threats to the Usos and Tag Team Titles. Meanwhile, Daniel Bryan looks on disappointed. CM Punk rolls outside and stares at him, seemingly in disbelief at their loss. “Despite working well as a unit for most of the match, one hiccup has put CM Punk and Daniel Bryan in a position they aren’t used to…losing” says JBL.

Alright, here we go with Raw is War, War is Raw, even though it's really just Raw... a good start to the show to follow up on things with The Shield and The Wyatt Family. An interesting stipulation for Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt, but it makes me believe fully that Reigns will walk out the winner. Which, in turn, isn't a bad thing as it would mean we get The Wyatt Family vs The Shield again and this time, I'd assume it would be at Summerslam? Erick Rowan and Luke Harper getting some shine by beating the WWE Tag Team Champions, The Usos, was cool with a healthy amount of time. Not sure where they fit in to the title picture, though, with Batista and Orton in the mix. Adam Rose with the debut. He's meh. Maybe you can work something out with him, fine start by beating Heath Slater - THE NUMBA ONE GINGA JOBBA, BAYYYBAYYYY! Alexander Rusev Invitational Time... whoa, surprising debut with Adrian Neville! While I'm cool with him coming in, maybe it could've been pushed back a week with Adam Rose just debuting? Kind of overshadows him, not that I care for Rose nearly as much as Neville. #ConstructiveCriticsm. I imagine we might get Rusev vs Neville at Battleground, maybe? I dunno! We'll find out! Excited to see what you do with Adrian, nonetheless. Moving on, Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler beating Kane and Sheamus was good for them, keeping The Authority vs All storyline going. Hey, mike time for Neville! I didn't like how WWE avoided giving him mike time when he first came in, so glad you did here. Cody Rhodes beating Fandango was what it was, a win for Cody with no complaints from me over it. I'm afraid I've got some BAD NEWS! Whoever wins that battle royal gets to face Bad News Barrett! I'm intrigued as it could be anybody. Nikki Bella calling Summer Rae a bitch!? Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black? Don't piss all over my black kettle. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan had a solid friendly promo and they agree to the match at Battleground! That'll definitely be exciting as they, obviously, always tear the roof off the place... but I am thinking the match will get ruined or we'll have some others added in down the line. Good main event set up for later on, too. Chris Jericho getting a DQ win over The Miz worked, fits the character for Miz to get himself disqualified knowing he is in trouble. I assume they'll battle at Battleground. Haha, punny. The Bella Twins and Summer Rae beating Paige, Emma and Natalya was for the best and Summer pinning Natalya worked well. Paige vs Summer sounds weird, but I like it! LETS GET WEIRD! LETS GET WEIRD! Alberto Del Rio beating Goldust and being vicious with him was fine, although Del Rio is in a bit of limbo right now. Maybe he should smack somebody backstage for being racist... more importantly, I'm waiting to see what this contrasting singles matches for Cody and Goldust will lead to for them. Kofi Kingston and RVD vs Batista and Orton on the Japan show? I can dig. Bo with the Bo-ring promo... nothing much to comment on there but Bo is an excellent little bitch character. Finally, we get the main event and having Batista and Orton win on paper doesn't look grand, but works well as it can create some tension ahead of the friendly match between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan at Battleground. Much enjoyable Raw.

WWE Main Event: July 8th, 2014 – Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Right after our opening video package, we are taken to the arena. The WWE United States Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank, Bad News Barrett strolls to the ring. Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton remind the home viewers that last night on Raw, Barrett offered a title shot at Battleground to whoever wins the battle royal in tonight’s main event. Barrett enters the ring with a microphone and says that last night, he proved exactly why he has both the US Title and the Money in the Bank briefcase. “I am the very best. There’s a reason I was able to join the Authority. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are busy people and I wasn’t doing enough to stand out. Then I came to them and I made sure they noticed me. Now, I’ve got this and this to validate just how good I am.” He points to the US Title and the Money in the Bank briefcase. He says that the battle royal is open to whoever wants to try and take the US Title from him, because it doesn’t matter. “Nobody is going to take it from me. It doesn’t matter which Superstar emerges with the win, I will walk into Battleground with my title and I will walk out of Battleground with my title. You can take that to the bank.” As he says the word “bank”, he raises his briefcase in the air as the crowd boos him.
An ad is shown to promote the fact that season one of Total Divas is now officially airing on the WWE Network. You can catch it Sunday nights at 7PM! BRIE BELLA W/ NIKKI BELLA VS. NATALYA W/ TYSON KIDD; Last night on Raw, Paige issued an official challenge to Summer Rae for a Women’s Championship match at Battleground. It’s usually unheard of for a champion to do so. However, Stephanie McMahon has decided that Paige will be defending her title before then. Tom Phillips informs us that the winner of this bout will travel to Japan to take on Paige at “Live in Osaka” on the WWE Network. Brie Bella gets cheered on by Nikki, who has been very vocal about the Bellas turning over a new leaf to earn a shot. Natalya pulls an old Bret Hart trick, playing possum. Brie checks on Natalya, while Nikki shouts for her to take advantage. Natalya pulls Brie into a small package to pick up the win. Natalya defeats Brie Bella in 5:00!
As she’s announced as the winner, Natalya rolls out of the ring and hugs Tyson Kidd. He seems rather impressed by the tactics she used to win, as he’s been doing some similar stuff down in NXT. Nikki Bella enters the ring, pissed off, and begins to yell at Brie. She says things along the lines of “you had this won” and “this is why you can’t be the nice girl all of the time.”
A recap is shown from Raw highlighting the match between Chris Jericho and the Miz. Miz and Jericho were in the midst of a competitive bout until Miz took the cheap way out by hitting him with a low blow. He continued the assault after the match, leaving Jericho laid out. This Friday night on Smackdown, the Miz has promised to discuss this on an edition of MizTV.
Renee Young is standing by with Chris Jericho. She asks him for his thoughts on what Miz did to him last night. Jericho responds by saying that he’s been attacked before and he’s sure Miz won’t be the last to do so, but he heard about MizTV this Friday. “I’m sure that the whole point of this is so that he can go out there and brag. He doesn’t even have a guest planned. What’s he going to do, interview himself? That’s no way to run a talk show, I should know.” Jericho promises to be at Smackdown and says he’ll have to take a close look at MizTV and how it’s run. “Maybe I’ll even give Miz a few pointers.”
ADAM ROSE VS. JINDER MAHAL W/ 3MB; Less than 24 hours ago on Raw, Adam Rose made his debut and bested Heath Slater. Tonight, another member of 3MB tries their luck against the leader of the Exotic Express. At ringside during this, Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre get into it with some of the odd members of the Express. This all happens while Mahal falls victim to the Party Foul, ending this. Adam Rose defeats Jinder Mahal in 1:54!
Another relatively quick win for Adam Rose here as he has now defeated two thirds of 3MB. Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre realize that the match is over and rush into the ring after Rose, who quickly rolls out. He joins his cast of strange characters, including a rather large Bunny, in celebrating by dancing.
We see an ad for the WWE Shop set to “Jungle” by Jamie N Commons. Images of WWE Superstars, Divas and fans wearing official gear from WWE Shop are seen. NUMBER ONE CONTENDER’S BATTLE ROYAL; The names included in this Battle Royal are Alberto Del Rio, Big E, Bo Dallas, Christian, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, Curtis Axel, Damien Sandow, Dolph Ziggler, Fandango, Jack Swagger, Justin Gabriel, Mark Henry, the Miz, R-Truth, Ryback, Santino Marella, Sin Cara, Titus O’Neil, Tyson Kidd, Xavier Woods and Zack Ryder. Some interesting notes include the Age of Enlightenment working together to toss out R-Truth before seemingly trying to recruit Woods. He declined and gets dumped. Jericho and the Miz come to blows and end up going over the top together. Officials do their best to pull them apart but it’s tough. The final four come down to Cody, Christian, Del Rio and Ziggler. As Ziggler does battle with Christian and eliminates him, Kane’s pyro shoots off, distracting him. This allows Del Rio to sneak up and eliminate him. Del Rio turns around and notices that he’s alone with Cody Rhodes, who is clearly pissed after what Del Rio did to Goldust last night. They exchange blows, with each guy coming close to elimination a few times. Both guys end up on the apron, jockeying for position. Del Rio knocks Rhodes down, but he lands on the apron and rolls back in. Before Del Rio can get back in though, Cody pops up and springboards off with a Disaster Kick that knocks him off the apron. Cody Rhodes wins the Battle Royal in 14:36!The bell rings and the fans come to their feet as Cody Rhodes’ journey as a solo artist gets a big boost tonight. Bad News Barrett steps out onto the stage during his celebration, with the United States Title wrapped around his waist and sarcastically claps for Cody. Alberto Del Rio looks furious on the outside once he comes to, but the focus goes back to Cody who raises his arms in the air.

Quick thoughts on this Kev since I've not been keeping as up to date as I'd like.
Quick feedback on Main Event think it's a good decision to go to the quick results format. For a last write up it was a good show I'm a fan of a good battle royal and the Main Event of Main Event produced one! Nice win for Cody.
Didn't realise Barrett was apart of the Authority
Japan card is shaping up nice as is Battleground still worried that Punk is just becoming another member of the roster. Also intrigued by the Reigns/Wyatt match.
I'll be reading more often from here (hopefully)

WWE NXT: July 10th, 2014 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
Opening things tonight, we go straight to the weekly NXT intro video. Cutting to the pumped crowd at Full Sail University, Rich Brennan, Jason Albert and Renee Young welcome everyone to the show. They promise a jam packed show and give us a huge announcement. Brennan announces “We all know that tonight, Tyson Kidd, Tyler Breeze and Corey Graves will take part in a Triple Threat match to determine the number one contender for the NXT Championship. We can now officially tell you that the winner of that match will get their title shot this Saturday on the WWE Network’s ‘Live in Osaka’! For the first time ever, the NXT Title will be defended out of the country!” BECKY LYNCH VS. SASHA BANKS; Last week, Becky Lynch made her debut and upset Sasha Banks. Renee Young tells us that when Sasha demanded this rematch, she told her BFF teammates that she didn’t want them at ringside. Like their match seven days ago, this features a fair amount of back and forth, though Sasha seems to hold an advantage. She does her best to not make any of the mistakes that she made the last time. Becky goes for an armbar, but Sasha is able to counter and get behind her. She hits the Bank Statement, turning it over into her submission and making Becky submit. Sasha Banks defeats Becky Lynch in 5:26!The “Boss” of NXT, Sasha Banks, gets to her feet and celebrates the victory. She can be seen mouthing “I can do it on my own”, maybe insinuating that she doesn’t need the BFFs anymore. The cameras go to the back where Summer Rae and Charlotte are watching on a monitor, and both seem pretty peeved.
A recap now airs of Sami Zayn staking his claim for the NXT Tag Team Championships a few weeks back until the champions themselves, the Ascension showed up to attack him. Sami Zayn was forced to miss a few weeks, but he’ll be back in action tonight. Devin Taylor is standing by with him, and she asks him about his match tonight. Sami says that he was and still is intent on going after the NXT Tag Team Titles. “The only thing I’ve been looking for is a tag team partner and I’ve found one now.” Oliver Grey steps into the screen and shakes hands with Sami. He brings up the fact that he was one half of the first ever NXT Tag Team Champions and he thinks that he is the best possible partner for Sami. They are going out tonight to take their first step towards the belts.
Before our next match, Eden Stiles announces that “Tyler Breeze has entered the building” which gets a pop from the crowd. OLIVER GREY AND SAMI ZAYN VS. THE VAUDEVILLAINS; The two newest teams in NXT do battle here. The Vaudevillains have found success in their first few matches, while Oliver Grey and Sami Zayn are first time teammates looking for some chemistry. They seem fine in the early goings, but fall into some struggles. The Vaudevillains work as a crisp unit and that proves to be a problem. Zayn gets a hot tag and comes in on fire. However, he makes a mistake when he tags Grey back in after a leg lariat. Sami dives out onto Gotch, but Grey misses his splash inside. English capitalizes and pins Grey to earn the victory. The Vaudevillains defeat Oliver Grey and Sami Zayn in 4:55!Much like recent weeks, the Vaudevillains walk away as winners tonight. Sami Zayn slides in as they leave up the ramp, to check on Oliver Grey. It seems like Sami has not found the partner that he’ll be taking to a Tag Team Title shot.
We now see the BFFs backstage, as Sasha Banks is healing up after her match. Summer Rae is pissed because she heard Sasha say that she doesn’t need anyone. Sasha responds, saying that’s true. “We’ve done fine without you since you left and we’ll continue to do fine without you.” Summer is taken aback, but Charlotte chips in, saying that she really doesn’t need either of them. “I won this title on my own and I’m going to be champion on my own. You two may have been the original BFFs, but I’m the one with the belt.” Summer claims that she knew Charlotte got soft when she hugged Bayley. She gives both of them the “talk to the hand” signal and exits.
An ad runs for the WWE Shop, set to “Jungle” by Jamie N Commons. Various WWE Superstars, Divas and fans are shown in their official WWE Shop merchandise. Returning, commentary directs us to a video package for Corey Graves. We see clips of his early stuff in NXT, including his rivalries with the Shield and the Wyatts and his Tag Team Title reign alongside current NXT Champion Adrian Neville. We also see Graves putting Sami Zayn on the shelf for a while after defeating him at TakeOver. Graves speaks over some of this video, saying that NXT needs a champion like him. A different kind of Champion. “Tyson Kidd, Tyler Breeze and even Adrian Neville…they will all learn that it’s best to STAY DOWN”.
At this time, we are joined by Solomon Crowe, who walks to the ring to a mixed reaction from the crowd. As he gets in, he grabs a microphone. He begins to talk about what happened last week against Adam Rose. He says that he did what he needed to. “When I came to NXT, I told all of you that I was going to be taking over. Adam Rose was the first step, but next on my agenda is to make sure that it’s out with the old and in with the new around here. Here’s a hint ladies and gentlemen…I’m the new.” He continues by saying that he will be watching every single minute of NXT and if he feels the need to, he’ll interrupt it and take over whenever he feels like it. Crowe throws the microphone down and leaves.
We get our second video package of the night, this one focusing on Tyson Kidd. It shows footage of him in his early WWE days as part of the Hart Dynasty and their WWE Tag Team Title run. We then see Kidd go through some struggles before changing his attitude here on NXT and beginning to rack up wins. Kidd’s voiceovers discuss his cats, his wife Natalya being by his side and how winning the NXT Title will show everyone that he is the best Hart Dungeon graduate in history. EVAN BOURNE VS. WESLEY BLAKE; Seven nights ago, Evan Bourne made his return to competition and chose NXT as the place to be. Tonight, he gets his first chance to step back into the ring. There is little to no ring rust, as he busts out some high flying offense right from the get go. Wesley Blake does hit a nice suplex, but that’s the most offense he gets in. Bourne flies off the top with double knees, before going back up and nailing the AirBourne to score a win. Evan Bourne defeats Wesley Blake in 2:32!Evan Bourne has his arm raised in victory, celebrating a win in his return to action. He is looking to get back into the swing of things here on NXT, where the competition is sure to be fierce.
Our final special video package of the night airs, focusing on Tyler Breeze. We see his debut and his rise to the top, which hit its peak at TakeOver in May, when he defeated Tyson Kidd. His voiceovers include him saying that Adrian Neville, Tyson Kidd and Corey Graves are unworthy of being NXT Champion because they are all uggos. “NXT needs a fresh breath of gorgeousness and who better to supply it than the King of Cuteville?”
A promo airs to hype this Saturday morning’s “Live in Osaka” special on the WWE Network! Following that, a quick recap is shown of Adrian Neville answering Alexander Rusev’s Open Invitational on Raw and surviving it, earning $5000 in the process. NUMBER ONE CONTENDER’S TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: COREY GRAVES VS. TYLER BREEZE VS. TYSON KIDD W/ NATALYA; This is an interesting match as none of the guys involved would be considered fan favorites, though all get somewhat mixed reactions. The guys stand around and try to form alliances with one another, but nobody can trust another guy. It eventually leads to everyone trying a cheap kick at the same time. When it breaks down, Tyson Kidd and Corey Graves both target the legs of their opponents. Not only are they trying to set up for their submission finishers, but they also want to remove the Beauty Shot from Tyler Breeze’s arsenal. Kidd gets knocked outside and Graves locks Breeze in the Lucky 13. He is near victory, but Kidd springboards in with an elbow on the back of Breeze’s head. He quickly gets up and kicks Graves to break the hold, before covering Breeze to win. Tyson Kidd defeats Corey Graves and Tyler Breeze in 11:01!The NXT Universe gives a mixed response to Tyson Kidd celebrating his victory. It was sneaky, but he won fair and square. Natalya comes in to hug him, though he breaks quickly and would rather she just raise his hand. Commentary reminds us that Natalya won on Main Event to earn a Women’s Title shot in Osaka and now her husband gets an NXT Title shot. The music of Adrian Neville hits to a huge pop as the NXT Champion walks out onto the stage and points at Kidd. “These two warriors clash this Saturday!” exclaims Jason Albert.

Hey, how's it going. The Live in Osaka card is intriguing. Firstly, I appreciate that this is in Osaka and not Tokyo. Gives off a different feel than the real-life show. Also glad that it's treated more like an In Your House and less like a typical house show in terms of the card--no random main event tag, more of an emphasis on certain titles while others are left off the show--things like that add to the uniqueness of the show. The main event is guaranteed to deliver, and I'm excited that it doesn't give away the Punk/Bryan match-up set for Battleground. KENTA being the second-billed segment is good looking and gives off the feel that he's gonna be a big deal in NXT and beyond. The two tag matches should be fun. Jericho vs. Zayn has to be insanity; expecting big things from that bad boy. Cool thinking that if WWE really did a live special in Japan in 2014, that would be the NXT Title match. Expecting Neville to retain but wouldn't be disappointed if Tyson were to come back to the states with the belt. Can't go wrong with the two women in the Women's Title match, and Del Rio vs. Big E should be solid. Don't know if it can top the best of 5 they had in 2013 when Ziggler was out with the concussion haha.
Definitely looking forward to it Kev.

Friday Night Smackdown: July 11th, 2014 – Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
This week’s Smackdown kicks off with a video recapping what went down on Monday’s Raw between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. We see the two friends meet and Daniel Bryan accept Punk’s challenge. They will meet at Battleground but before they do, they had to team up against Batista and Randy Orton. They miscommunicated in the midst of a hard fought battle, leading to them losing. The opening Smackdown video package airs, followed by Michael Cole and John “Bradshaw” Layfield welcoming everyone to another episode of Smackdown. They send it to the ring, which is set up for MizTV. On cue, “Awesome” is heard as the Miz and Summer Rae walk out onto the stage. They walk to the ring, arm in arm, and take their seats. Miz starts by reminding us that his return to the WWE was ruined by Chris Jericho. “People have been asking me since Monday why I did what I did.” He directs us to the titantron, where we see his attack on Jericho during their match. It resulted in a disqualification but Miz continued after the match. Cutting back to the ring, Miz has a smug look on his face. He says that the reason he did that is obvious. “I had to teach Chris Jericho a lesson. He needs to remember his place in the world of multi-media stars. Look, I’m not taking away from what he’s accomplished in this ring throughout his long career. But when it comes to being a star in every facet, Chris Jericho just simply cannot hold a candle to me.” Miz then goes to direct us to a video of what he calls his “greatest hits” but instead we see Chris Jericho’s pyro. He shows up to a big hand from the crowd and asks Miz, “would you please shut the hell up?” The crowd cheers loudly at this. Jericho continues by saying that he knew MizTV was going to be a joke because the Miz just doesn’t have the charisma to host a show. “How can you host something when nobody likes you?” Miz is fuming now, telling Jericho that he is very close to a repeat of Monday. Jericho chuckles and says “that’s actually kind of why I’m out here. You see, I’m about to board a plane to Japan for the Live in Osaka special this weekend. I notice that you weren’t invited to that Miz. Strange. Anyway, after what you did to me on Monday, I want nothing more than to face you again. How about we do it now before I go?” Miz responds with his classic “really?” a few times. He says that he isn’t going to Japan because he doesn’t want to, not because he wasn’t chosen. “I’ll give you another match though, to finally put you in your place. However, it won’t be tonight. These ridiculous Canadians don’t deserve it. I’ll face you at Battleground.” Jericho isn’t too happy about having to wait, but accepts and tells Miz that after Battleground, he will “never….eeeeeever, be the same again.” NON-TITLE MATCH: THE USOS VS. RYBAXEL; It’s been a rough week for the Usos, as they suffered a loss to Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, while also being targeted by Batista and Randy Orton. Tonight, they look to turn things around against a team they’ve had success against in the past, Rybaxel. This is the standard affair between these two teams. The Usos are indeed able to get back on the right track by pinning Curtis Axel following a splash from Jey. The Usos defeats Rybaxel in 2:59!Jey Uso gets to his feet and is instantly greeted by Jimmy who hugs him. They are handed the Tag Team Titles and celebrate with them, getting back on the winning track here tonight. One has to assume that the teams of Erick Rowan and Luke Harper and Randy Orton and Batista are on their minds though.
Standing by backstage is Renee Young and her guest is Roman Reigns. The powerhouse of the Shield is asked for his thoughts heading into a match with massive implications at Battleground. Reigns says that he wants no part of being a member of the Wyatt Family. “I’ve seen the brainwashing that Bray Wyatt does. I can’t let that happen to me. I can’t lose at Battleground. I need to win and the Shield needs to beat the Wyatt Family. Tonight, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins get us off on the right foot when they beat Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Believe that. Believe in the Shield.”
Returning, a recap is shown of the final Alexander Rusev Open Invitational this past Monday on Raw. NXT Champion Adrian Neville answered the challenge and lasted the five minutes with Rusev, earning himself $5000 and a massive debut. We cut to the ring where Lana and Alexander Rusev are already waiting. Neither of them look pleased and Lana cuts straight to the chase. She says that what happened on Monday was a travesty of epic proportions. “We know that Adrian Neville is not here tonight but we are laying out another challenge to him for Raw. We dare you to come face to face with the Super Athlete once more and this time, we won’t be caught off guard.” ALEXANDER RUSEV W/ LANA VS. JACK SWAGGER W/ ZEB COLTER; A rematch from Money in the Bank, though this is much shorter. Alexander Rusev really does seem furious with what went down on Monday and he takes it out on Jack Swagger. The All-American Real American is able to come back with some hard hitting blows, but it’s not enough. Rusev is able to reel off a flurry of offense, ending with the Accolade, which Swagger is forced to tap out to. Alexander Rusev defeats Jack Swagger in 2:05!Lana enters the ring and makes Alexander Rusev break the Accolade. He stands over Jack Swagger as Zeb Colter looks on in disappointment. Commentary mentions that it took Rusev over seven minutes to beat Swagger at Money in the Bank, but barely took two here. “That should tell you how foul a mood Alexander Rusev is in” says JBL.
We go back to Renee Young in a pre-taped backstage interview with the WWE Women’s Champion, Paige. Paige is over in Japan, getting ready for “Live in Osaka”, so she is not at Smackdown. Renee asks for Paige’s thoughts on her upcoming matches with Summer Rae and Natalya. Paige discusses Summer Rae first, saying that she is the definition of a “Diva” and is the absolute opposite of what she came to the WWE to be. “She’s more interested in how many social media followers she has or how her makeup looks than she is in holding this Women’s Championship with pride. As for Natalya, I have a lot more respect for you than Summer. Don’t take that for weakness though. In Osaka, I will walk in with this and I will walk right back out with it.” BO DALLAS VS. R-TRUTH; In a rather comical moment, Bo Dallas can be seen dancing awkwardly to R-Truth’s theme music. Truth notices this and kind of pokes fun at Bo for it, which Bo seems to take in stride. However, once the bell rings, Bo attacks furiously. It’s that kind of aggression that he’s been able to show from time to time that really puts his opponents in danger. Truth misses a high kick, leading to Bo tripping him up and applying the Bo and Arrow, which is enough to put Truth away. Bo Dallas defeats R-Truth in 2:53!
Before he can even be declared the official winner, Bo Dallas is already out of the ring and doing his victory lap. When he gets back inside, his arm is raised, picking up another victory. Bo Dallas continues to do well for himself in the WWE.
A promo video airs to promote the “Live in Osaka” special tomorrow morning at 530AM EST. Already announced is a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler, Paige defending the Women’s Title against Natalya, an NXT Title match and the historic signing of KENTA to the WWE. Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart will be there as well as so much more. DEAN AMBROSE AND SETH ROLLINS W/ ROMAN REIGNS VS. ERICK ROWAN AND LUKE HARPER W/ BRAY WYATT; The Shield have made it very clear that they want the Wyatt Family in a six man tag. This is about as close as they’re going to get unless Roman Reigns can beat Bray Wyatt at Battleground. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper cut the ring in half on Seth Rollins. Bray Wyatt laughs at all of this from rocking chair, while Reigns looks on at him. Rollins is able to make the hot tag to Dean Ambrose, who comes in like a complete nutcase. He nails everything in sight and surprises many by taking out Wyatt from his seat with a suicide dive. Reigns laughs now as Ambrose gets back inside. Harper nails him, sending Ambrose into the ropes but he comes back with a rebound lariat of his own. Rowan comes in and eats Dirty Deeds to end this. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeat Erick Rowan and Luke Harper in 9:02!Bray Wyatt quickly enters the ring and clotheslines Dean Ambrose down. Seeing what Bray did, Roman Reigns slides in and comes to blows with him. The fans are on their feet for this exchange, but Erick Rowan and Luke Harper come into level him in the back. Seth Rollins springboards in but Harper greets him with a vicious superkick. After being beat down by all three men, Reigns is easy pickings. Wyatt lifts him, kisses him on the forehead and plants him with Sister Abigail. Bray kneels over Reigns and shouts “FOLLOW THE BUZZARDS”. Harper and Rowan menacingly stand over him as this goes down.
An ad airs for Total Divas, as all of season one is now available on demand on the WWE Network! NIKKI BELLA W/ BRIE BELLA VS. NAOMI W/ CAMERON; Over the past few weeks, the Bella Twins have been striving for a shot at the WWE Women’s Championship. Brie Bella failed in an attempt a few nights ago on Main Event, which heavily disappointed Nikki. As she held Naomi in a chinlock, you could hear her shout at her sister to say “this is how you do it”. Brie seems a bit saddened by this but also seems to kind of understand. Naomi tries for the Rear View but Nikki is able to sidestep it. She follows that by hoisting up Naomi and nailing the Rack attack for the win. Nikki Bella defeats Naomi in 3:11!
The fans give a bit of a mixed reaction, though with more boos, as Nikki Bella is announced as the winner. Brie Bella comes in and raises her hand, but Nikki seems more interested in celebrating on her own. “Nikki Bella continues to show that she means business when it comes to her quest for the Women's Title” says JBL. CHRISTIAN VS. THE MIZ W/ SUMMER RAE; Now that Chris Jericho has exited the arena in preparation of his trip to Japan, the Miz has no issue coming out confidently. Christian hits with the early offense, but a well-timed thumb to the eye from Miz turns the tide. He tries for the Skull Crushing Finale early only for Christian to counter and set for the Killswitch. Miz shoves him off and into the corner, following in with the awesome clothesline. Miz stays in control for the majority of the rest of the contest before the Skull Crushing Finale puts Christian down for the count. The Miz defeats Christian in 4:05!Summer Rae looks on with a smile as her man earns a win against a former World Heavyweight Champion here tonight. She enters the ring and hugs him, as Miz throws his arms in the air in victory. He looks more than ready for his date with Chris Jericho at Battleground.
In the back, we see the Exotic Express partying randomly, led of course, by Adam Rose. 3MB show up to crash the party. Heath Slater claims that Rose continues to get lucky against them because he doesn’t deserve to even be in the WWE with his ridiculousness. Rose takes the lollipop out of his mouth and speaks for the first time on the main roster. He says that he used to be a lemon who never had fun. Then one day he went to a party and realized that’s what life is all about. “I’m just here to have fun and so should you guys.” He offers to have 3MB join the party but they decline and leave. Drew McIntyre shoves over the Bunny though before officially leaving. Rose checks on his fallen furry friend. AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT VS. LOS MATADORES W/ EL TORITO; Commentary makes sure to tell the viewers about the Age of Enlightenment since they’ve really only been featured on Main Event. The tandem of Damien Sandow and Titus O’Neil work well together, using Sandow’s brains and Titus’ power. In the middle of the match, Xavier Woods strolls out to the stage. Michael Cole reminds us that Sandow has been trying to recruit Woods lately. Sandow allows for Titus to score the win after Clash of the Titus hits on Diego. The Age of Enlightenment defeats Los Matadores in 2:16!Xavier Woods watches on, seemingly giving consideration to Damien Sandow’s offer. Sandow sees him watching and gives a sly smile. Titus O’Neil is more preoccupied with celebrating the win, not really focusing on the Sandow/Woods dynamic.
A promo runs for Battleground, which comes to you live on Pay-Per-View and the WWE Network in just over two weeks on July 20th, 2014 from Tampa, Florida! CM PUNK VS. KANE; With a WWE World Heavyweight Title shot coming up in a few weeks, CM Punk is in trouble if he looks past Kane. The Director of Operations comes at Punk with some big shots early on, causing him to back into the corner. Kane works over Punk, focusing on his back. A kick from out of nowhere puts Punk in the driver’s seat. He hits a knee strike and bulldog for a near fall. Punk calls for the Go to Sleep but Kane elbows free and tries the chokeslam. Punk slaps himself free and hits another big kick to the back of the head. That allows him to hit the GTS this time, covering and earning the three. CM Punk defeats Kane in 7:50!CM Punk gets to his feet, picking up a big win with a title shot on the horizon. Michael Cole reminds everyone that Daniel Bryan is going to be defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Dolph Ziggler tomorrow morning in Osaka, so whoever walks out of Japan as the winner will be facing Punk at Battleground.

Smack her down like an NFL player. Whoa, did I take it too far there? Solid opening promo with MizTV to set the stage for Jericho vs Miz again at Battleground. Should be a solid affair. The opening contest was fine stuff with The Usos getting a win over Rybaxel, keeps the champs looking good before they end up getting mixed up with all these big mofos coming for their gold. Rusev wants to face puny Neville again on Raw, eh? At least he can last five minutes, Rusev! HA! I SAID IT! Good win for Rusev in a rematch with Swagger. Paige is all but guaranteed to win her match in Osaka, we know damn it! Bo Dallas beats R-Truth. The former tag team partners collide! Well, fine win for Bo. I'm curious as to what your future holds for him. Picking things up now, we get Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins beating Erick Rowan and Luke Harper in what would be a good bout. Bray Wyatt striking was good for The Wyatt Family after losing the match. Nikki Bella beats Naomi and she is on a quest for the Diva's Title, JBL!? WHAT DIVA'S TITLE!? IT'S THE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP, MAGGLE! TheMiz beating Chris Jericho's buddy Christian was good for him. I like the note of him having no problem facing Christian compared to Jericho, even though it makes me feel bad for Christian. Drew McIntyre shoved the bunny! THAT BASTARD! DON'T BE A LEMON! Age of Enlightenment... get the win? I'm curious about this possible pairing of Sandow and Woods, however. Makes me think if they pair up, maybe The Prime Time Players get back together and feud with them!? THERE! I JUST BOOKED IT FOR YOU! Finally, we get a decent main event with CM Punk rightfully going over Kane. Come on, now, Kev... this is the WWE! Kane is supposed to never eat a pin at his age, now! Sheesssh. Anyway, a solid show. Nothing too eventful, but Smackdown never needs to be overly eventful in the end every time. Looking forward to the Osaka show.

WWE Live in Osaka: July 12th, 2014 – Maishima Arena in Osaka, Japan
The WWE signature flashes across the screen to open the broadcast, followed by the camera going straight to the arena. The sold out crowd in Osaka are on their feet for this historic event. Our commentary team for the show consists of Michael Cole and Byron Saxton. Due to the nature of this show, we don’t have video packages or anything like that, as we instead go straight to the action. CHRIS JERICHO VS. SAMI ZAYN; The historic event opens with a first time ever contest. According to commentary, the recently returned Chris Jericho handpicked Sami Zayn as his opponent for tonight. “Chris said that he’s watched Sami compete around the world and has always wanted to have a match against him” explains Michael Cole. As a show of respect, Zayn and Jericho shake hands before getting into an exchange. They trade mat work for a bit before Sami sends Jericho outside. He goes to dive out, but Jericho moves and Sami rebounds off the top rope, earning applause from the Osaka fans. Jericho smirks, seeing that Sami is game for this match. When he gets back in, Jericho shows some veteran savvy, being one step ahead of a lot of Sami’s offense, showing that he has indeed been watching and scouting Sami for some time. Sami has done some of his own scouting, blocking a Codebreaker attempt. He gets an extremely close near fall with a code red type move. Jericho comes back with an enziguri and tries the Lionsault, but Sami gets his knees up and pulls him into an inside cradle for a close near fall. Jericho sends Sami outside with a springboard dropkick and even nails the Codebreaker, but Sami is able to get his foot on the bottom rope. Jericho goes to pick up Zayn, but is greeted with a blue thunder bomb for two. Jericho gets up in the corner, as Sami calls for the Helluva Kick. Jericho dodges it and school boys Sami. Instead of going through with the pin though, he quickly moves into the Liontamer! Sami does his best to try and escape, but is forced to tap out. Chris Jericho defeats Sami Zayn in 17:11!
After the match, Chris Jericho is announced as the winner and the crowd cheers for him. His focus is on Sami Zayn though, who he helps to his feet. They stare at each other and Sami offers a handshake. Jericho slaps it away, only to pull Sami into a big hug. The crowd applauds this as Jericho raises Sami’s hand in a show of respect. The camera even picks up Jericho telling Sami that he is indeed the future.
ALBERTO DEL RIO VS. BIG E; This is the first time we’ve seen Big E since suffering some losses at Money in the Bank and the night after. Alberto Del Rio has made some headlines recently by injuring Goldust with his Cross Armbreaker. The fans seem to be firmly in the corner of Big E, who comes out firing with some heavy shots that absolutely wallop the former multi-time World Champion. Big E bounces off the ropes and hits the E Train, causing Del Rio to regroup outside. Del Rio stalls out there but getting back on the apron. Big E charges for a spear through the ropes, but Del Rio is ready and moves, causing Big E to crash and burn on the outside. Del Rio takes over like a shark smelling blood, targeting the arm. He wraps it around the ring post a few times, stomps on it and just brutalizes it. He applies the Cross Armbreaker, with Big E screaming in pain. He gets close to the ropes, but Del Rio lets go, pulls him to the middle of the ring and latches it back on. Big E has to quit, giving Del Rio the victory. Alberto Del Rio defeats Big E in 7:42!Alberto Del Rio is not done however, as he refuses to release the Cross Armbreaker! The referee tries to get him to release the hold but Del Rio has this look in his eyes. Two more officials run out to try as well as the crowd boos. Del Rio is relentless as he just yanks on the arm. He finally lets go, but the damage is clearly done. Big E holds his basically limp arm as officials check on him. “What has gotten into Alberto Del Rio? Between what he did to Goldust and now this, that is one dangerous man” says Byron Saxton.
A promo airs to promote Battleground, which comes to you live on July 20th, 2014 on Pay-Per-View and the WWE Network! NXT CHAMPIONSHIP – ADRIAN NEVILLE (C) VS. TYSON KIDD W/ NATALYA; Since his attitude change a few months back, Tyson Kidd has been a force to be reckoned with in NXT. Adrian Neville recently made his debut on Raw, winning the Alexander Rusev Open Invitational challenge. Neville offers a handshake at the bell, but he should know better as Tyson goes for it, but pulls back and slicks his hair back. Natalya is not amused by this. Neville and Kidd start with a feeling out process, trying to outmaneuver each other and gain the upper hand. When Kidd fails to do so, he gets frustrated and spends some time chatting with his wife. Neville looks like he is going to dive out onto him, but Kidd pulls Natalya in the way, causing Neville to put on the brakes. Kidd trips him up before going inside and taking control. Kidd’s focus seems to be on the lower back of Neville, showing that he’s setting up for the Sharpshooter. Kidd does go up top and sees an opening for the blockbuster, but Neville is able to avoid it. He climbs but Kidd is able to dodge the Red Arrow! Kidd quickly rolls up Neville but it’s not good enough for him to score the win. Tyson manages to lock in the Sharpshooter, looking for our third straight submission finish. Neville reaches the ropes though, holding his leg. Tyson goes back on the attack but Neville holds the ropes. Tyson yanks and Neville ends up flipping up onto his feet, though he stumbles a bit. They trade shots, with Neville ducking a punch and nailing three rolling German suplexes. He climbs to the top and connects with the Red Arrow to retain. Adrian Neville defeats Tyson Kidd to retain the NXT Championship in 15:27!The referee hands Adrian Neville the NXT Championship as the crowd cheers for him. He raises it high in the air while Natalya enters to check on her husband. Neville poses for the fans before we cut away.
BAD NEWS BARRETT AND SHEAMUS VS. CESARO AND CODY RHODES; There are currently two rivalries going on for the Intercontinental and United States Championships. Cody Rhodes won a battle royal this past week on Main Event to earn a shot at Bad News Barrett, while Cesaro has made it clear that he’s coming for Sheamus. Here, the four collide in a tag team bout. Barrett and Sheamus show off a good chemistry, but Cesaro and Cody seem to be a bit off early on. They seem to start to fix things, only for Sheamus and Barrett to cut the ring in half on Cody. They take turns hammering away on him, until he can bust out a Disaster Kick that sends Barrett staggering to his corner. He tags in Sheamus just as Cody dives and makes the hot tag to Cesaro. The top challenger for the Intercontinental Title finally gets his hands on the champion, firing away with a relentless string of uppercuts. He backs Sheamus into a corner with it, before charging in for a huge one. Sheamus charges too for a Brogue Kick, but Cesaro manages to duck. Sheamus is met with a big Disaster Kick from Cody, who then dives out onto Barrett. Sheamus turns around from that kick and is met with a Neutralizer, which is enough to score the win for the future challengers. Cesaro and Cody Rhodes defeat Bad News Barrett and Sheamus in 11:19!The crowd comes to their feet as Cesaro and Cody are officially named the winners. Bad News Barrett gets to his feet outside and is not pleased at all. Cody raises Cesaro’s hand and they both motion for the titles around their waists as Barrett and Sheamus back up the entrance.
After an ad is shown to promote the WWE Network, the cameras cut to the ring which is set up for a contract signing. Hulk Hogan’s theme hits as the crowd gets louder than they have all night so far. Hogan struts out, followed by Jimmy Hart and he enters the ring. He poses for the fans, who are more than excited to see him. Hogan gets on the microphone and begins to talk about what it means to be part of the WWE family. He says that his Hulkamaniacs in Japan know exactly what it means and he says that someone else in Japan knows it too. He directs us to the tron, which plays a video of highlights featuring KENTA. After the video, an unfamiliar theme plays as KENTA comes out to a bigger crowd reaction than even Hulk Hogan got. He is in a suit as he enters the ring and shakes hands with both Hogan and Hart. He waves to the crowd before taking a seat and officially signing his WWE contract. When he’s done, he gets a microphone and speaks in Japanese. Once he’s done with that, he repeats what he said in very simple English. “I am very happy to be a part of the WWE family. One thing I would like to announce. In the WWE, I will be going by the name Hideo Itami, in honor of one of my idols.” The fans applaud this as Hogan comes over to give him another handshake. He then asks Hideo to do his trademark flex poses with him, which Hideo does with a smile to the delight of the audience. WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP – PAIGE (C) VS. NATALYA; Our second time seeing Natalya tonight, but this time it’s with big stakes for her, rather than her husband. It seems as if Natalya paid close attention to Tyson Kidd earlier, as she goes to start focusing on the lower back, but decides against it and targets the leg. Commentary wisely points this out to anyone who missed it. Paige ends up limping around after a few minutes of this, but comes back with a big kick using her other foot. She takes a swing at Natalya, who ducks and hits a beautiful bridging German suplex for a near fall. Natalya looks for the Sharpshooter, but Paige is able to kick her off. She is able to connect on the Paige Turner, which won her the NXT Women’s Title last year, but Natalya gets her shoulder off the mat in time. Paige goes for the PTO, but Natalya turns her over and applies the Sharpshooter. Paige is near tapping out, but is able to reach her hand back and break the hold by tripping Natalya up. She then puts her in the PTO, bringing some of the fans to their feet. Natalya looks for an escape, but there isn’t one and she has to give up. Paige defeats Natalya to retain the WWE Women’s Championship in 8:01!The fans give another respectful round of applause as Paige is handed the Women’s Title from the official. She raises it high in the air and shouts “THIS IS MY HOUSE!” at the top of her lungs. Natalya holds her back as she gets up and shakes Paige’s hand, continuing a string of showings of respect here tonight.
A video recap is shown to highlight what Batista and Randy Orton did to Rob Van Dam and Kofi Kingston a few weeks back on Raw in their first shot as a tag team. BATISTA AND RANDY ORTON VS. KOFI KINGSTON AND ROB VAN DAM; Right from the bell, both Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam attack Batista and Randy Orton with a flurry of offense, making it clear they want revenge. They send them to the outside, where Batista and Orton regroup. Kingston and RVD give them no time to do so though, launching themselves out onto them. When the match actually calms down, it surprisingly sees RVD and Kingston in control for the early portions. Eventually, the tandem of former World Champions is able to turn the tide and begin to isolate Kingston. He fights valiantly but it’s a struggle to have two of the best ever beating down on you. RVD rallies the crowd, which helps Kofi break free and hit Orton with the SOS. He makes the tag, bringing in a hot Van Dam. He flies around the ring with kicks and flips. Those high risk moves prove to be just that, high risk, as Batista catches him in mid-air with a vicious spinebuster. He signals for the end, but Kingston leaps in, only to have Orton catch him with a mid-air RKO! Batista laughs before planting RVD with the Batista Bomb, scoring the pinfall. Batista and Randy Orton defeat Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam in 13:20!The audience boos the victory for Batista and Randy Orton. They don’t seem to care at all, relishing in the heat. Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam are unfortunately unable to gain any revenge for what Batista and Orton put them through recently. The former Evolution members have looked like a big time threat to the Tag Team Titles as of late. WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP – DANIEL BRYAN (C) VS. DOLPH ZIGGLER; Much like his upcoming title defense against CM Punk at Battleground, this is a battle of respect for Daniel Bryan. However, to make it to Punk, he has to retain against Dolph Ziggler here. These two start things off by trying to get a feel for one another, though neither can grab a real advantage. Ziggler is the first to strike with some major offense, hitting the heart attack elbow combination for a near fall. Bryan retaliates with a surfboard stretch, opting to try for a submission, which has been the theme tonight. They continue to exchange holds and moves, with neither guy gaining a clear cut advantage. Dolph actually hits the Zig Zag but Bryan is able to kick out in the nick of time. Dolph follows with a stinger splash for two again. Dolph has a look of disbelief on his face at his inability to win the biggest match of his career. He reaches deep into his bag of tricks and applies a sleeper hold. Bryan senses how bad this is, and is able to counter by running up the turnbuckle and turning over into a pin for a near fall. They get up at the same time and get into a battle of headbutts, just ramming into each other. The fans applaud this effort as it happens multiple times in a row. Bryan wins out and steps back for the Busaiku Knee. He charges but Dolph dodges and lays him out with a superkick. He falls onto Bryan in a pin but it’s still not enough. Dolph picks up Bryan and takes a swing but Bryan ducks and tries to pull him down into a backslide. They struggle until Bryan wins out and pins for two. Bryan goes to a rollup for two, before Dolph counters into one of his own. They trade rollups until Bryan is able to score the win from out of nowhere with one. Daniel Bryan defeats Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 21:16!A surprising finish to a great contest between two of the very best in the WWE. Dolph Ziggler looks disappointed in his defeat considering the effort he put forth. Daniel Bryan puts down his WWE World Heavyweight Title and helps Ziggler up. The two embrace and Ziggler raises Bryan’s hand in a show f respect and admiration after that battle. They pose by the entrance to close this historic broadcast.

Lookie here. Osaka. I see Jericho/Zayn kicks things off; trying to impress me early I see. I like the respect each shows the other in the beginning; adds a little bit more to the match than say Jericho/Neville from BitE. I like the back-and-forth aspect of the match and the finish was good. Jericho's big in Japan as you know so the finish doesn't surprise me. The hug afterwards and the stuff Jericho says to Sami is the icing on the cake; you didn't disappoint me there Kev. Big E starts off hot which is good; I'm hoping he does some good things in the future. Del Rio winning was alright--the post match shenanigans made up for it. This must mean Del Rio is here to stay which I like and hopefully after the string of poor performances E has had when he recuperates he'll be better than ever. Neville vs. Tyson was solid; surprised by the finish giving Neville's win in the Alexander Rusev Invitational. I do like the little quip that Tyson was going for the third consecutive submission victory too. I am a fan of the little synopses before the action giving background to the competitors. The first tag match was fun, glad to see Cody and Cesaro win. KENTA was what it was; interesting you had him debut the name now instead of his in-ring debut. Like seeing Natalya target the leg during the Women's Championship match. I like Paige winning even more so. Mami. Orton and Batista winning tag two was expected but fun to read nonetheless. MAIN EVENT HYPE. It's cool to see submissions be a reoccurring theme on the show; it's fresh. The finish was fun as hell and was a great icing on the cake to a wonderful night in Osaka. Bravo.
