I always thought that ol' Philly Brooks would go down as the most impactful WWE talent to have had a notable background in the humble indies (ROH, IWA: Mid-South, etc.) and to have not had a body, etc., especially after mid-2011. However, it looks like with pop culture acknowledgement, sporting event chants, and even Rolling Stone Magazine publishing an article about him, Daniel Bryan has surpassed CM Punk in fame.
And why? They're equally great in the ring, the Yes! chant is great, and I love the romantic movement that led to WWE changing the WMXXX plans (assuming they didn't have a master plan to begin with) to put him over in the main event (which we all know is happening). That said, even while giving credit to him for all of the positives, I don't see the microphone talent within Bryan that I see in Punk. Not even a quarter of it. Bryan isn't that great on the mic. He seems timid.
As I've said, I think Bryan is undoubtedly deserving of what awaits him in New Orleans Sunday night. At the same time, I wish people would acknowledge his negatives. He's not a Punk on the mic. Not a Foley, not a Flair, not an Austin, not a Trip. I think Punk should go down as the overall better "Fruit of the Tree of ROH" as he compares to Bryan.

The Yes chant is why. (and because to the general eye, he's more impressive in the ring)

Mic work isn't everything. Yes, Bryan is not as good as Punk in department, but to be fair, most current stars aren't. However, in every other aspect of wrestling, Bryan > Punk.

Daniel Bryan is just more likeable. Not just his character but as a person too. He comes off real, and friendly, and CM Punk doesn't.
CM Punk seems like he hates the fans even when he is a babyface. And he must really hate the fans for how he walked away from them and didn't give two sh*ts about it.

His rise to stardom is very unusual. He doesn't possess the gift of gab, that's true. He's more in the vein of Benoit where the in ring performance and charisma has gotten him over. That and he's just got all the underdog qualities working for him. He's easy to identify with. CM Punk is brash and snarky as face or heel. Bryan is a humble blue collar everyday kind of dude. Easy to root for.

Because he doesn't whine and b*tch about not main eventing or so.

i'd agree... Punk doesn't always seem to enjoy people... he seems like he's more of a private person. but he's great in the ring and on the mic. Now... Bryan is just good enough, he's smart enough, and, doggonit, people like him...

I love Punk. I think he is awesome when he wants to and when WWE gives him something good. With that said, when he is in a smaller angle or role, he seems to not care and it definitely shows because his matches become all the same, and I feel the crowd can sense it. Anything Bryan has been given, he has been grateful for and has given it his all. When the therapy/Team Hell No angle came up, I was eh about it but then Bryan and Kane completely blew it out the water. Feuding with and joining the Wyatts, as dumb as it was, Bryan made it into something good. We wont know how good because (I firmly believe the Michigan State chant did this) the angle was scrapped and Bryan turned on Bray 2 weeks later, but it was still heading somewhere good to my belief.
In terms of pop culture, Punk never really did anything to have an impact on anything outside of WWE/wrestling, where Bryan; the Yes chant is absolutely everywhere and when they explain who Bryan is, people become more drawn to him because he's such a genuine guy.

That said, even while giving credit to him for all of the positives, I don't see the microphone talent within Bryan that I see in Punk. Not even a quarter of it. Bryan isn't that great on the mic. He seems timid. That's really stretching it far. Bryan is great in the ring, Punk is no longer that great, even in what people view as his hay-day we wasn't that great in the ring in terms of how well he executed moves, Bryan is a lot better in that department and in the way he does his kicks etc. They all look impactful, can't say the same about Punk who's style isn't as hard hitting, overall, in my opinion, Daniel Bryan is leaps and bounds ahead of CM Punk at this point. In respect to his promos not being great, I have to disagree with that also, sure he hasn't had that defining promo like Punk has had that set him apart from the rest but he has the charisma and word skills, as was evident in his heel run on the independant scene, in due time I think it'll show that Bryan is your typical "vanilla midget" that is as bland as Lance Storm, hell, that's already been shown to a large degree and I just see him getting better and better. Plus this: The biggest thing in my eyes, at this point in time in the WWE, is as long as you can make a connection with the fans, a great connection, then you are golden. The Yes movement is the biggest thing in WWE in years. As much as I hate to say this, but mic work and in ring work are just a "plus" (cringing as I type this) at this point. Yes, Punk does make a great connection with wrestling fans, but so does Bryan, and with Bryan people just love him. I hope this makes sense.

Nobody will ever top Punk on the mic though. He will go down as the greatest of all time as a talker, all Bryan needs to be is average to above average (which is what he is) along with his superior in-ring work.

Lol...You need to go back and watch some Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Jake the Snake, Mick Foley, or old school Stone Cold my friend.

Daniel Bryan is more likeable and seems to appreciate every thing that had happened in his career.
Punk however is a very hard person to like because despite being a fantastic in ring worker and mic talker he comes across as a nasty person in real life.

Brayn and Punk are 2 of my favorite but I think Punk is bigger then Bryan. He held the WWE Belt for 434 days, fought The Undertaker at WM, faced The Rock,

I knew somebody would reply to me saying that, like clockwork. Sorry, every single one of those guys had their faults and hiccups. Stuttering, over-used catchphrases, unintelligible vocals and accents, all of them had their faults. During Punks prime (2010-mid 2013) he was arguably the hottest guy on the microphone ever, he could control an entire segment and make you believe what he was saying (even if they were lies) without stuttering, corny catch phrases, along with a clear paced voice and accent. People always love bringing up ancient legends who were revolutionary, then when you actually sit down and compare them you see a clear difference.

Faults and hiccups? Not sure which promos you're watching. All guys stumble over their words every so often, especially when most of what they're saying isn't memorized from a script... I'm not putting Punk down, he's amazing. But to say he's the best of all time? Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion, I've never found his delivery to be anything special. What he says is usually terrific, but if you weren't sitting down and listening to the words he was saying, you probably wouldn't turn your head to see who was talking.
