Shawn Michaels has a 35% winning percentage from seventeen matches at WrestleMania.
You can throw the first five out the window. He was entertaining at WrestleMania X, but how many of the matches following were exceptional? I don't remember much after.
This is a serious question.
WrestleMania V - Tag team match as "The Rockers" - Lost to The Twin Towers
WrestleMania VI - Tag team match as "The Rockers" - Lost to The Orient Express
WrestleMania VII - Tag team match as "The Rockers - Won against The Barbarian and Haku
WrestleMania VIII - Singles match - Won against El Matador
WrestleMania IX - Singles match - Lost to Tatanka
WrestleMania X - Singles match - Lost to Razor Ramon
WrestleMania XI - Singles match - Lost to Diesel
WrestleMania XII - Singles match - Won against Bret Hart
WrestleMania XIV - Singles match - Lost to Stone Cold Steve Austin
WrestleMania XIX - Singles match - Won against Chris Jericho
WrestleMania XX - Triple threat match - Lost to Chris Benoit
WrestleMania 21 - Singles match - Lost to Kurt Angle
WrestleMania 22 - Singles match - Won against Mr. McMahon
WrestleMania 23 - Singles match - Lost to John Cena
WrestleMania XXIV - Singles match - Won against Ric Flair
WrestleMania XXV - Singles match - Lost to Undertaker
WrestleMania XXIV - Singles match - Lost to Undertaker

Yeah he really doesn't deserve that moniker more than other guys. A lot of those matches are decent at best, and a couple are flat out garbage.

I haven't seen any of his matches before Wrestlemania 19 but everything after were pretty much four stars plus.

I would have considered Undertaker more the 'Mr. WrestleMania' as his streak had become such a part of the event for years.

I'm pretty sure it's because nobody outperformed Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Go ahead and watch all of the Streak matches. You'll be asleep by like, the 3rd or 4th one. Shawn Michaels didn't wow anyone with the WrestleMania matches during his Rocker days or his early heel turn. However, from WrestleMania X and down, he had Match of the Year candidates nearly every year.
Even going back to WrestleMania IX, his match with Tatanka was pretty good. I'd give it just shy of three stars. WrestleMania X Ladder Match vs. Razor Ramon is ***** because at that time, it was something nobody had ever seen. XI vs. Diesel for the WWF Title won Match of the Year for a few places, however it was in a very down 1995. I personally prefer Diesel/Bret from Survivor Series '95 but still, another match that I'd put at ***3/4 XII he had the Iron Man match which isn't for everyone but is a classic that won match of the year at most places. Again, I don't fully agree, though it's about **** At XIV, his match with Austin was great and could've been better if he wasn't working with a destroyed back. ****1/4 or so.
Then he retired but came back and had the greatest string of WrestleMania matches in history. At XIX he and Jericho possibly stole the show at one of the most stacked Manias ever. ****1/2 At WrestleMania XX he competed in the greatest Triple Threat main event ever in another match of the year from most people. That match is nearly flawless. ****3/4 maybe. At 21 he and Kurt Angle stole the show in yet, another match of the year candidate. An all around awesome match that would be about ****1/2. At 22, he had a better match than he probably should've with Vince McMahon. A fun brawl that comes in at about ***1/2 WrestleMania 23 he headlined again and had an awesome match with John Cena that made Chris Jericho want to return to wrestling. Could've been match of the year if they didn't best it on Raw later that year. ****1/4 WrestleMania 24 had the emotional Ric Flair retirement match that told a phenomenal story. ****1/2
And of course, WrestleManias 25 & 26 had the epics with The Undertaker in the two best matches 'Taker ever had at WrestleMania. Two different matches, but amazing nonetheless. I'd put 25 slightly above 26.
Regardless, what I'm trying to say is that he's Mr. WrestleMania because he was the best thing about WrestleMania for years. I used to dislike him when I was younger for the Montreal Screwjob being a Bret fan, but I got over it and HBK won me over with his string of excellence after his return from retirement, mostly at WrestleMania.

Why? Because he pretty much had nothing but classics for 8 years straight. Seriously, find me a Shawn Michaels Wrestlemania match since his 2002 return that wasn't a MOTN candidate. Even his match with Vince (which wasn't really anything that special) was far better than it had any right to be.

Thanks a lot. I haven't seen much from the mid 90s until about two years ago. I'm going through each WrestleMania thanks to the Network and I just finished X last night. And it was the first in six WrestleMania's that I would say he had a good match so I got curious. Guess I should have watched 15 more 'Manias before I should have posed this question.

HBK maybe have a 35% win percentage but he's had amazing Wrestlemania matches more consistently than anyone else. You can argue that Taker deserves the name more but it doesn't fit his character.

The Shawn/Flair match is one of the all time worst worked matches ever. Literally 20 minutes of nothing.

Good matches.
Also the fact his boyhood dream had come true at Wrestlemania 12.

Well for me Undertaker is Wrestlemania since he ended HBK's Carrer

You really think win percentage matters in pro wrestling? The guy consistently put up excellent matches at WM and that's the point.
The only other guy who would have a valid claim to Mr. Wrestlemania is Undertaker and that's it.

He said it in a promo to get his point across. WWE just ran with it since it sounded good. Is his record the best, no. Can you rest assure that his match is gonna keep you entertained, I think so.
As for the flair match, you have to realize it's an old Ric Flair. Hell, Shawn had a great match with Vince.
The reason they use it is because they know he will go all out to steal the show.
