One of the many reasons some believe the legends line failed was the line up. We didn't get too many main eventers at the onset with iconic attires.
I think the smart thing for Mattel to do is to work their way from the top down. There are new collectors getting into the hobby all the time and older collectors who have taken years off. I think starting big now would entice more people to get involved, and it would assure your fan base that their collection at least is represented by the very best from their favorite era(s). Once we get the main eventers from, say, the Attitude or Golden Eras, then they should focus on middle carders who had relatively short stints or never got a big push.
I'm thinking that Mattel should hold off on gimmicky guys like Giant Gonzalez, Kona Crush or even X-Pac (or Papa Shango) and go for people like HBK, Hogan, Flair, Undertaker, etc.
Thoughts?

I agree. Get every possible Taker, Flair, HBK etc out as possible, because one, they sell and would sell, and two, because I want a flair and I really want a 1998 Undertaker and I will always get a new HBK.
Btw, Kane's 1999 inverted attire and his Survivor Series 2001 attire would make for great figures as well.Just fix his mask!

I think this is how they should have started. 4 big name main event stars, 1 mid card, 1 jobber They should have had so many hbks, HHS, undertakers and Kane's out that we were sick of them..... Add Bret, Rey Mysterio, john cena, etc There was 7 planned legends series we knew about and a 2 pack set and Hbk, undertaker and Kane who were all on contract, never made a legends appearance Your right, more people are on board now than ever, and with rocky maivia, flair, x PAC, hogan all coming up (hopefully razor) there's gonna be more of a demand for legends/flashbacks than ever Bring them on! ![:)](http://www.wrestlingfigs.com/images/smiley.gif) Also I want a Mattel giant Gonzalez in a bad way

For the most part, I agree. There are plenty of big-name guys (ie multiple world title reigns and/or PPV main events) that have several looks that we can still get through: Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, Mick Foley, John Cena, Edge, Warrior, Bret Hart, Batista etc.
But I think in the sets where there are two or three flashbacks, we could have a lesser name now and again: Razor Ramon, Doink, Luger, Earthquake, Bossman, Brutus, Shamrock, Bulldog etc.

Maybe three big names out of four. I wouldn't think Mattel would put two mega stars and their first figs in the same series. If we get a 3-flashback wave, then a first-ever Hogan would pair well with an Undertaker and a long-braids British Bulldog. There you'd have a first in the line, a new version of an already made mega star, and a middle carder. That sounds like a good formula to me. There is no way Hogan and Flair's first figs should be in the same series with the way the breakdowns work. Hogan, Flair, Sting, Razor should all get their own first series with other guys we've already seen or middle carders.

I like the gimmick guys, Mostly because i was born 1990 and i started watching wrestling when i was three, and at that time they had the gimmicks. I want them for my collection for the nostalgia factor, but also because they are the ones who end up being rare because you don't see figures of them that often, and my be worth something to to right collector if you want to sell it Some of the past Main eventers already have figures, and there are some that don't but once we get them then what do we do then? just collect the same main eventers but in different attires? If that is what you want to do, Then do it, Whose stopping you? I feel they do the gimmick guys so they can keep it fresh and interesting so they won't have to do the same guys over and over again. One day people will be like "Dude this is the 10th (insert favorite main eventer here) that mattel has come out with, I'm getting tired of it, im going to stop buying." Then Mattel would start losing money, and have millions of unsold figure because everyone already has this guy in there collection. There are some gimmick that were so stupid that they don't deserve a figure, I'm talking about the ones who were memorable. So Yes on main eventers, but after every three main event flashback figure give us at least two gimmick flashbacks.

So Yes on main eventers, but after every three main event flashback figure give us at least two gimmick flashbacks. We've already seen this start to happen with Macho Man. I remember after his most recent elite people said "Okay that's enough Machos for a while; let's focus on someone else." I agree you can't just do Undertakers, HBKs, Warriors, Machos and eventually Flairs and Hogans. I personally don't see the need for any other Macho Man figures. I think we've gotten a nice representation of at least one elite from all his major eras (tri-star, Macho King, cowboy, nWo). We still need an early HBK and a debut Undertaker in elite. Bret Hart is pretty much done except maybe a Hart Foundation version with John Lennon sunglasses, so long as we get Anvil. I do like gimmicks as well. I collect gimmicky modern guys like Tensi elite and Bray Wyatt because I think the figures look great, even though I haven't watched a second of WWE in many years. ! I'd love Doink, IRS, etc. But there are plenty of big names and iconic attires left to go, which I do still think should be Mattel's primary focus for flashbacks and speciality series.

I think Mattel should make as many figures as possible. If people remember the character, and the can legally make it, the make it

No, then people will lose excitement if all the good ones are gone. You gotta save some big names somewhere

That's my whole point. We need more excitement. Sprinkling the line with big names adds a little flavor to collecting, but I want the meat and potatoes so to speak.

Nobodies are Nobodies. They will be nobodies now and in the future. Give us Hogan, Hall, Sting, Flair, Sid, Goldberg and all the main event guys. All of them have multiple attires (Goldberg has two really) that could make multiple figures down the line. Just go ahead and give us the most iconic looks so we're sure to get them. And then spread out the repaints with the middle carders. If we don't want nobodies at the end of the line, as you say, then why would we want them now? A lot of those nobodies were relevant because they had something to do with one of those big stars.
