I started the 'Ruthless Aggression' era in 2003 (specifically WM XIX) as that was quite an era-shifting event - Austin's last match, Rock's last single WM match for nearly 10 years, and Brock Lesnar main eventing. Ended it in 2009 because I think that's around the time a transition began to occur into whatever era we're in now.
Mine is probably 2003 actually. I expect most people to say 2004, which was also an excellent year. 06/07 WWE struggled a bit, but some years here will stand up as the best of the decade most likely (except 2000 which was WWE's best ever year imo).

2003, because SmackDown was awesome and at the time RAW was awesome (looking back there was some terrible stuff).
I thought 2005 and 2008 were really good years though.

I actually have the Ruthless Aggression Era as being from 2002-2008, but 2004 was definitely the peak year of that period. 2002-2003 with Paul Heyman booking Smackdown was awesome as well.

I gotta go with 2004 on this one.
Loved Chris Benoit being World Champion, and every Raw from that year seemed entertaining. Sure, we saw a lot of the same matches constantly (ex. Batista/Orton vs. Edge/Jericho, Batista/Orton vs. Shelton/Jericho, Christian vs. Jericho, Evolution vs. Benoit/Edge/Jericho, Kane vs. Benoit, La Resistance vs. Benoit/Edge etc.) but all those matches were always awesome to watch.
I would say that clearly 2004 is my favourite year of that era, with 2006 following it as 2nd place.

I'd say 2003 even if 2004 was great!

2005 for me. Some great matches & moments like, Team Raw vs Team Smackdown!, WrestleMania 21 which one of my favourite 'Mania's, the Orton/Undertaker rivalry, and Hogans return(sure the matches weren't great but those reactions give me goosebumps still, and I wasn't even born during Hogans peek). The only negative thing about 2005 for me was Eddie's death.

2003 was probably the best year there. The brand split was fresh and I did buy into the GM feud, we had Nash vs. Triple H going on and some cool Shawn Michaels matches.

Definitely 2003. Smackdown was amazing, and Raw was great as well. My only complaint would be the mishandling of Goldberg.
2004 was solid as well even though Smackdown dropped off a bit.

I loved 2003, I also have soft spots for 2005 and 2006.

2003 because it's closest to 2002 which was the second greatest year in wrestling history (second only to 1997).

2003, for reasons similar to @bashcrashwiley...Heyman's booking, Lesnar VS Angle again and again, the RAW team at Survivor Series (the juice that Michaels got was insane!) the rise of Evolution, Hollywood Rock, Benoit VS Guerrero on Smackdown for the US title - excellent.

Hollywood Rock was so much fun. When I thought the streak was going 25-0 I wanted the 23rd or 24th notch to be Undertaker vs. a returning Hollywood Rock going on about how he'll end the fans' precious streak.

2003 but I'm one of the few guys that actually liked 2009.

I am shocked that so many people are picking 2003, when that was the year that Triple H ruled Raw, and I know how many people hated that in 2003 when it was going on.

Tough choice between 2004 and 2006. 2003 holds a special place in my heart though for glowpaint Hardy. But I went with 2006.

I missed most of this era as it was during my wrestling hiatus (which I regret now) so out of the years I had to choose 06 because I did see most of that year. Got to go to two Raws and a Smackdown that year.

I'd say 2003. So much stuff happened that year it was just fantastic from start to finish. The first few months of 2004 were great but after the draft the roster was pretty hollow once guys like Goldberg, Lesnar & Austin were gone and Angle was inactive, Big Show was out etc.
The era definitely started in mid 2002, the official Ruthless Aggression speech happened in June 2002 but I'd say it began at the Draft. IMO it ended at Wrestlemania 21 in 2005 when Cena & Batista became the top guys & that was the start of the 'modern' era if that even exists.
