It was a few days after Superbrawl. It was morning time with the sun just peeking out from the clouds. Birds chirping and bees buzzing.
Bryce was in his car heading to a local diner in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had been driving for hours...

I found my brother, I found Kyle. What are the odds that I would see my brother on the biggest WFWF PPV of the year? I'm lucky because it's the only one I ever watch. He had one hell of a performance. I was upset to see that he didn't win, but I was proud that he became what he said he would become someday, a WFWF wrestler.
“You have arrived at your location”
Thank god that I have a GPS in this vehicle. I would have never found this place. Cars and building are everywhere. Looks just like Detroit, busy with traffic at all hours of the day. This place is a bit nicer though.
I got out of my blue mustang. I pulled out a piece of paper from my pocket. I looked down at the address I wrote down the previous day.
“This must be the place”
I walked through the door. I scoped out the place to see if I saw the same face that I had seen crash through a table with that Landon guy. I looked to my left, no Kyle. I looked to my right, found him. He was sitting in the back of the diner in the corner, wearing a black leather jacket. He was looking down upon his phone.
I walked to the back of the restaurant looking nervous and scared.
“What if he hates me? What if he is mad that I haven't contacted him in three years?”those were the thoughts that were racing though my head.
I hesitated, I wasn't sure if I should just turn around and leave or if I should just be a man and walk up to him. I took a deep breathe and walked up to his table..
“Kyle? Kyle is that you?” I asked as I looked down at him.
Kyle looked up from his phone. He smirked at me.
“That's me. What, did you think I changed my name?” he joked. Still that jokester that I knew from when we were kids.
“Shut up, smart ass!!” I joked back. I chuckled a bit.
Kyle got up from his chair and we hugged each other.
“I'm so glad I found you man!” I whispered.
The night after Superbrawl, I contacted WFWF headquarters, I know people. That is how I got his number. I gave Kyle a call right after they gave me his number. We had a short chat about arranging a time to meet up. That's how we got to where we are today.
“Me too” Kyle replied.
I wasn't too sure if Kyle was just saying that to be nice or if he actually meant it.
A waiter walked up to our table. She had a pen and notepad in hand.
“Uhm, sir? Can I take your order?” the waiter asked Kyle.
“No, thank you” Kyle answered as he was typing on his phone.
Kyle might seem like he is intimidating, but underneath that layer of hatred, he is a kind guy. Usually only to family.
“What about you, sir?” the waiter asked me.
I cleared my throat.
“Not today, ma'am. Thank you for asking” I replied with a smile.
She smiled back at me.
“Alright, well just call me over if you need me!” she told me. She walked away, I think she liked me!
“There is something that I never understood, Bryce” Kyle said to me. A serious look grew on his face.
I was shaking. I knew he would bring it up.
“Why did you leave us?” he asked the question.
It was when Kyle was only seven. I was fourteen at the time. It was a Friday night. My mother was working late at the car factory. My father was away in New Jersey with our sick grandmother. I was stuck watching Kyle. He was watching WFWF when I got the call.
“Hello?” I said.
“This is Officer Wayne. Is your father home?” The deep voice asked me.
I wasn't sure why I was talking to a police officer. Did my older brother, Curtis, get arrested again or something?
That's the first thought that ran through my head. Curtis moved out three years ago and we haven't heard from him since.
“No! He isnt! What did Curtis do this time?” I asked the officer.
It wasn't the news I wanted to hear...
“Your mother...she was found in an alley on Jefferson Ave., she's....she's dead” the officer replied in a sad voice.
Tears instantly began to flow down from my hazel eyes. I flipped my long hair back and wiped the tears before Kyle could see my crying. I had to set an example for him and be strong.
“This can't be true!” I said while I was sobbing.
I gave the officer my father's phone number and hung up. It was time to tell Kyle the worst news he would ever hear. I walked up to him slowly and couldn't keep the tears from falling down from my face.
“Kyle...”
Kyle turned his head to the left where I was standing.
“Mom...Mom....” I couldn't get the words out.
“What about mom?” he asked me. Concern began to grow upon his face.
“She.....She's dead...”
He couldn't believe it. He quickly responded to me.
“That's not true!” he yelled. Tears began to fall from his face.
“It is, Kyle” I held my little brother tight.
That whole night we cried. I told my brother that he needed to be strong. It's what mom used to always tell us when a tragedy would happen in our family. I couldn't take it. I just couldn't. That night we slept right next to each other. I woke up that next morning. Kyle was still asleep. I packed my bags, left the house, and never returned. I couldn't take living anymore. I actually attempted suicide a few times.
“I just couldn't take it anymore, Kyle” I said quietly.
I gave up. That's something that I regret ever doing. I left my seven year old brother alone in that house. I wasn't thinking straight. I should have came back. I didn't. I told my brother that night, he needed to be strong. The thing is, I couldn't even be strong.
“And you think it was easy for dad and I to deal with? Well it wasn't bro. You could have came back. We looked all over for you. I never had my brother there for me. You weren't there. I had no one but dad. You hurt us, Bryce....you really did” Kyle whispered as he set his phone down onto the wooden table.
He was shaking as if he just got inside during a cold winter day. I didn't know what to say. I never really thought about how they felt. I just thought about myself.
“Look, I'm sorry I never came back. I really do apologize. There is nothing I can do about something that has already happened. The only thing that I can do is ask and beg for your forgiveness. I'm here now and I want to be there for you now. I'm proud of everything that you have accomplished thus far in your life. What do you say Kyle?”
Kyle just looked at me with a blank face for about two minutes. The longer he stared at me, the more I thought about getting up, leaving, and pretending like none of this ever happened. Sweat was dripping down my face. It is times like these that I wish I could hear the thoughts of another person. I'm always self-conscious, always trying to impress.
“I can't stay mad at you forever. You are right. I accept your apology, but understand that it will take time for me to adjust and fully forgive you... You said you were proud of me? How could you be proud of me? I lost at Superbrawl, I failed” Kyle said in disappointment.
“I completely understand brother. Sure you lost at Superbrawl, but you don't realize that you actually got to compete at the biggest event in WFWF history. That's what matters. Only a select few get the opportunity to actually be on that roster. You are amongst those select few. Not only that, but you did a great job at Superbrawl. You did make me proud!” I responded.
Kyle laughed a bit. He dropped his head down as he chuckled. He slowly rose his head back up.
“I remember when we would fight in the backyard and on the trampoline like a bunch of wild animals. Now, I get to actually like a wild animal in the ring, in-front of thousands of screaming fans man!” Kyle said with a smile on his face.
I knew exactly what he was talking about. We would always try to portray the moves that other wrestlers would do. It would always end with one of us getting hurt....mainly him.
“Yeah, good times!” I laughed.
“So, did you just live on your own the whole time that you were gone?” Kyle asked as he was looking the awards on the walls.
“No. I did for a bit. I was taken in by Spencer and Heather a few months after I left. They were visiting from Chicago. They were looking to adopt a kid. Did I mention that I became a foster child? Well yeah, that happened. They met me and loved me. It was hard to adjust first. I didn't even speak much. I often would just answer their questions with a nod or I would just shake my head. They have two kids, Carly and Andrew. Carly is twenty three, straight brown hair and she has very white skin. She wearings a lot of eye shadow, I constantly tell her she doesn't need to. She looks beautiful without it. Andrew is twenty four, short brown hair, freckles all over the place. It took me a while to feel like I was actually a part of their family. I got used to it. They treated me well. I will forever be grateful for what they did for me. I have nothing but love and respect for them. They reminded me that good people still exist in this corrupted world. I went to college for a while, I became a marine biologist. Sea creatures have always been fascinating to me. Crazy to think that I would take up that job, eh? It's very fun and I'm always learning new things. Here I am today, 29 and in love with my beautiful woman, Kelsey Ponder”
Kyle was shocked to hear all of that information. He seemed happy though, which was refreshing to see.
“Wow! I'm glad you were blessed with a family who took you in and took good care of you. They seem like amazing people. I didn't expect you to be a marine biologist. I'm glad you did though, it's a great thing you are doing man. I'm glad you found someone that loves you and someone that you love back. I also have a girlfriend, Cheyenne. I can't even begin to explain how much she means to me!” Kyle replied.
“Maybe we should have a get together one time?” I said with a smile.
“Yeah man, maybe” Kyle responded.
Kyle's phone vibrated. He looked down at his phone.
“Hey, I have to go do an interview with this radio station nearby. Take this pass. It will get you a front row seat and it is also a backstage pass for our next show” Kyle said as he rose from his seat. He put his phone in his pocket and pulled out a VIP pass to the next show.
“Wait! Who are you fighting in your next match?” I asked before he scurried out.
“Some guy, the name is Tugarin Zmey. I'm not sure if I pronounced that correctly. I don't know much about the guy. The only thing I do know is that he is managed by a midget and he is the exact opposite...a giant! The bigger they are the harder they fall. I'm not saying that I can beat him, but if I do go down, he's going with me!”
“Seems like an interesting pairing. Be strong, always remember that. Thanks for the tickets man, I totally understand. You must have your hands full. I'm glad we could meet up and catch up a bit. I'll see you at the show?” I questioned. I rose from my seat and put on my sunglasses.
“Of course man. I hope you enjoy the show. Just come backstage after the show is over!”
Kyle scrambled out of the diner in a hurry. He probably was running late. Bad time management runs in the family.
I walked outside the front of the restaurant. I got into my car and slammed the door. I feel like a big weight was lifted off of me. I'm glad I actually went through with this.
If there is one thing I learned from this, it's that you never know what will happen until you try...
