I think I might put a bet on Aguero for the Golden Boot considering Argentina's early run. Messi might get rested for a game or two early on, and Aguero or Higuain could pick up the slack. All he needs is a hatty against someone and he's almost there. Wonder if I can find an Aguero/Germany double somewhere...

Germany/Messi double is 45/1 so I'm guessing Germany/Aguero could be about 150/1.

I think you're probably right, they'd probably fall short in the end. However talent wise? They can certainly give it a go and should be exciting to watch. Colombia's squad is ridiculous attack wise.

Oh yeah, they'll definitely be the two to watch in terms of potential and giving the top teams a run for their money.

The thing with Belgium and Colombia, is yeah they are very good squads, and Hazard, Kompany and Falcao are genuinely World Class Players. But they are still way off from the likes of Spain, Argentina, Germany and Brazil. People just tend to overate them just because they're half decent and we're familiar with the names.

I think people overrate them because going into it the World Cup is kinda... boring in comparison to the past. Four potential winners, yes, but then the gap is so massive to the 5th placed team (which according to the bookies is Belgium I think) that people are desperate to make it smaller. The past few spam have been average too (2010 in particular was one of the worst footballing spam in living memory according to most people) and people are desperate to have a 'great' WC again like 2002 or Italia 90.

Yeah agreed. I still think 1998 was the best one I've been alive for. The Kits, the Teams, the Squads. Seem to remember 2002 always being very dark, and apart from England vs Argentina and South Korea vs Italy, don't recall too much that I got excited about. Italia 90 will always be our parents' greatest one though.

I don't remember 98. My first footballing memory is the treble (specifically the final game vs. Spurs and then the Bayern game).

Getting really excited for this now. Having literally no expectations for England (think we'll go out in the groups then Roy will be sacked, probably unfairly) helps I think.

The best quote on the situation I have heard is "if there is 23 players better than Landon we could win the World Cup"

Jozy plays and fits well with the US, not sure of the other striking options, never heard of them.

But they're taking a midfielder with 1 cap and hasn't made a single appearance for Bayern in Julian Green. Even if Landon's form had dropped I'd still take him for his experience and stature, like how Beckham or Lampard are used for England. Disappointed that Brad Evans won't be going though. I like him.
