Wow!
Seeing the WM30 Brett Hart got me collecting again after a 25 year hiatus! Mattel figures are simply unbelievable in detail and I am so impressed! Recent moves, however, are already making me question how long I will continue to be interested.
The Ric Flair and Andre the Giant decisions on Mattel's part are truly bizarre. Trying to incorporate two different time periods into one figure is confusing and as seen in this forum is turning off many customers! It's also a weird company decision. Why make one "combo" figure when you can make two and sell more?!
The wrestling figure consumer today is far more discerning due to more adults wanting to hang on to childhood memories. Please Mattel, listen to the consumer and give us what we request. It's obvious that you follow this forum since there are postings from the design team. We are all informative and can be sticklers for details when it comes to wrestling figures and wrestling history.
I want to continue to be interested in Flashbacks, Defining Moments, and possibly the reemergence of the Legends line. Keep me reeled in darn it!!

I guess some people want to remember moments. I want to remember wrestlers. I don't need perfect replications of specific matches. I want figures that capture the essence of a character. I don't want to buy 15 Ric Flairs to remember my 15 favorite moments of his. I want one Flair purchase that I can look at and say, "That's Ric Flair." I feel sorry for those people who have to have some accurate attire from some specific event, and if they can't remember it they have to scour the internet just to find a picture so they can sleep better at night. I don't think that way, thank god. If you want to get picky, you tout how great Bret Hart looks, but the white trim around his singlet was never that pronounced. I noticed that right off hand, but it's still a pink and black Bret Hart indicative of how he looked during that era, not necessarily how he looked for one match. < That's what I prefer. Flair wore the powder blue a lot. He wore his hair like that for a while there. He wore the black robe a lot. He had the big gold belt quite a bit. It's just Ric Flair.

First of all, how's this Flair represent 2 different time periods? I swear, if that f*cker has removable hair I'm never pre ordering a figure again. Now, to Bossman's point. It's the Defining Moments series, so it should be of a specific moment right? I'm not sure why you have a problem with someone having a problem of Mattel making amalgams of people's attires... Are you really saying that sh*t like the R&R Express shouldn't have made anyone mad?

I just said he represents Ric Flair sans any one particular era. Now, to your point, it's the Defining Moment s series. Flair had many, so why not give us a figure that encompasses those many moments (plural) rather than just one? How about a figure indicative of him as wrestler and not him from a particular match? We'll never get everyone's favorite moment, so I don't mind an amalgam. And what the heck is the R&R Express? I never remember Mattel ever making anyone by that name.

Uh... you didn't say that? The guy who made the thread did?
Anyways the R&R Express stands for "Ricky and Robert" Express. They were 2 Americans who toured Germany under the guise of "evil Canadians" in the 1940s. See, the fuhrer loved wrestling, and he loved hating Canadians more than he loved hating the Jews. Ricky and Robert were in Berlin when the US declared war on Japan. But at this point the R&RE were still in Germany. They eneded up staying in the country, sending out secret messages to spies that would be in the audience of their matches. How you ask? Well, how ever many minutes Ricky would "play Ricky Morton" was how many days the Germans were away from attacking a certain target. The noise that the crowd made when the "hot tag" was made to Robert always afforded the American spy in the audience to flee the arena. Many, many battles were won because on the R&R Express put their tales on the line. Throughout history however, many scholars have argued on which of the 2 had blonde hair, and which had brown. This has caused such a ruckus that Mattel said they would never make a figure out of perhaps the most important tag team, you apparently have never heard of.
