Tried my hand at it again this morning with some junk figures I have kicking around...just cause I want to practice and get better at it. But I am LITERALLY the WORST at this. I cannot figure out how to get a good, clean crack happening. Always creating stress marks, breaking pieces off. It's seriously frustrating. I know there are lots of tutorials on here and other places on the web...but DANG!! I just cannot get the hang of it.

Boiling Hot water.. 5 minute soak, screwdriver behind shoulder... If no go, re heat water and soak again. Hot hot water should re emulsify the glue and... Snap. Patience grasshoppa....

Patience is probably my biggest problem. Yes indeed. Here's a question though...
I'm trying this out on old Jakks figs that are basically garbage. I'm wondering if the age of the figure makes much difference to the ease of the process. Some of these jakks figs are 10-15 years old. Would the glue loosen the same way as a Mattel that is only a few weeks old, or would it create problems?

- age doesnt make a difference, i think boiling watermethod works best, i have used it on mattels and worked soo much better then without it when i used to crack my jakks torsos, ihave yet to try a jakks in the boiling water.

I have the same problem. I can't seem to get it. I always end up damaging the figure.

Guys, go ahead and watch this tutorial that wwextreme25 made. I used it for the first crack I ever did and it worked out perfect. I also boiled water for like, 10 minutes so it was hotter than the hinges of hell.

Patience I agree is the main priority. What I would do is heat up water in a bowl for a good 3-4 minutes. Then put the fig in and just walk away. Come back in 10 min and the fig will be very soft, and easily able to remove certain parts such as the head and arms. Follow the guides via this website. They really help

Sure am, heres the link www.figurerealm.com/viewcustomtutorial.php?id=71It shows you how to crack them open to swap legs but I find if your careful & take your time you can get a good crack far up enough to swap out the arms etc. *Note* I haven't tried it with Mattels, but works a charm for Jakks

The entire problem for me was the fact that you might need to reheat the water a couple times, and leave the figure in for long enough, I leave the figure in for like 5 minutes.

I just did this on a gallows abs that refuse to split even after a couple of heating and nearly being broken. Except i drilled from the top and sides.

I used to be able to crack open BCAs and TTLs and 90 % of the time not damage the figure. But since RA and Mattel have come along I ruin the figure most of the time. The only RAs that I've been able to split were either the Tshirt torso or the SuperHeavyweight torso. And thus far have had no luck with Mattels.
