Most people use Sculpey. You can buy it at Wal-Mart or craft stores. You mold it on the figure, then put the molded area of the figure into boiling water for a few minutes to harden. It doesn't pull off easily after you boil it. I think regular sculpy is very fragile and chips easily, but Super Sculpey is a lot sturdier. Other people I believe use apoxiesculpt, which I haven't seen in a craft store, just online and I believe it is self hardening.

yes sculpey is a type of modeling clay but supersculpey is a lot better. since your beginning to sculp don't buy self hardening sculpey. i bought it and it hardens in about 10 minutes so i had to rush to modd hari etc on my figs and they didn't turn out the way i wanted them. you can buy it at walmart or craft stores like iknowcool said.

You're in the UK? Have you ever heard of Games Workshop Green Stuff? If not, I would look into it. Should be easy to get there in the UK.
Btw, I myself don't condone sculpey. It's one of the lowest forms of sculpting compounds. Definitely not sturdy enough, and getting it to set is too much of a pain.
Green Stuff is a 2-part epoxy. Mix blue with yellow (hence green) and start sculpting. It is air curable, meaning no boiling/baking to get it to set.
Oh, and any number of hobby shops in the UK should have it. If not, google it and find a location that is suitable for you.

after you mix that or Apoxie Sculpt, can you store and reuse what is left over?

I ment the left overs, I would hate to spend 10.00 on 1lb of stuff I can use 1 time and may only be able to do one custom and have lots of waste

For the apoxie you just mix approximately the amount you are gonna need. If you need more, mix more.

*sigh*
If you have leftovers of Apoxie Sculpt or Green Stuff, you can freeze it. Some of you people have no clue as to what you are talking about.
But yeah, freeze it, and let it thaw when you want to use it. I've not had a problem with this process before.
When freezing, make sure you freeze before it sets. Otherwise, it's wasted.
