"A thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself." Really awesome first episode, anyone else watch it? It's on Sundays at 10 This is how vampires should be

Having read the books, the show took out so much character development that made Eph more liable. They skimmed over the divorce/family problems too much, the tension between Eph and Nora and also I thought they skimmed over the finding of the plane too much (which made it less creepy).
Having said that, I like it anyway. Setrakian was pretty badass. Looking forward to seeing more.

Out of all the new summer TV series, The Strain looks like the best. I haven't read the books it is based on but from what I saw it reminds me of the Brian Lumley's Necroscope style vampires: big nasty bloody gory morphing monsters. I will be watching more of this series to see where it goes.
Is it wrong of me to hope one of the earliest victims of the vampire plague is Eph's ex-wifes boyfriend? He seemed like a total douchebag.

But as always book is always better than the television/movie adaptation. I did enjoy it though and look forward to seeing how they adapt the rest of the books.

Checking it out later on tonight. Seems like it'll be good from what I've seen online.

Just watched the first (hour and 40 minutes long) episode. While I enjoyed it, and was thoroughly creeped out, so much of it was predictable, hitting on all past horror beats. I think the writing still has a ways to go, but a few little twists and bizarre moments, I could be in for the long haul if they go deeper into Eph, and don't just keep him as a hollow leading man shell.
