Im sure this has been brought up before, but this would have been a perfect chance for the WWE to bring back something that people actually enjoyed. Dont get me wrong, I love a good old fashioned battle royale, but at the rate WWE is pushing them out now, theyre starting to lose their luster.
Why did the WWE do away with the King of the Ring in the first place?

This year I know they couldnt change the name of the PPV, but they could have still crowned the King/Int champ at Battleground.

Didn't they literally just do this? I think it's how Barrett got his title shot

I know people love it and someone posts it should be brought atleast once a month, but there is no need for it in WWE today. In the past it was you to push young gus they wanted to be big and over. Now they can rely on us, the fans, to tell them what we like, plus with the success of NXT and the talent there we're fine without it.

IC title IMO would give the belt a better meaning But a "King" isn't handed second best titles. The World Title would make a lot more sence.

I would be in favor of King of the Ring replacing Battleground and being used to name the number one contender for SummerSlam. It wouldn't have to be limited to young guys but it definitely could work for a Reigns type. Tournaments are fun imo and it's easy to do qualifying matches leading up to the event. Too late now, obviously, but I do think it's a formula they could return to in the future and have it be successful.

I do love me a good tournament.
I wish WWE would have a two night (Sat & Sun) tournament and only subscribers to the network get to see the first night. Those who still order the PPVs only gets to see the Sunday night portion. I think that may entice more people to subscribe especially if there are some intriguing matches that first night.

I've always loved the King of the Ring. Even if some of the KOTR Pay-Per-Views were disappointing.

Have qualifying matches on Raw. Have a KOTR ppv, have the KOTR become the #1 contender. Just like they used to. Who gives a s*** about Battleground?

As long as I don't have to suffer through King Sheamus again, I'm all for bringing KOTR back.

I'm pretty tired of over the top rope battle royals. It's been done to death this year.
Man I miss KotR...off to The Network to watch Angle vs Shane and Lesnar win the KotR...

I'll always choose a tournament over a battle royal. Most battle royals are just boring punch and kick fests while you wait for most of the field to be tossed over the top rope and the one inevitable high spot save (which has been Kofi's spot for the past 3-4 years and before that it was John Morrison). The Royal Rumble is a little better because of the timed entries and surprise returns but the match itself has more dull moments than it does exciting moments. I find tournaments to be more interesting and fun.
KOTR can definitely serve a purpose in giving a rising star a memorable moment to push into the main event scene or refresh a stagnating career: look at guys like Savage, Austin, HHH, Brock, and Booker T. Winning KOTR absolutely helped each one of them to reach new heights. Yes, KOTR sometimes bombs like it did with Sheamus but he was booked horribly in the months following his KOTR victory. Other times it is the last rung on the ladder to a long stay at the top.

King of the Ring is a PERFECT, simple, entertaining concept. Bunch of guys get in a tournament and the overall winner gets a WWE title shot at Summerslam. It's the simplest booking ever and is a TON of fun.
But in the WWE's view, throwing all their mid-carders into the ring at once is more "exciting and unpredictable!!!" I don't even think "creative" has the creativity to even make KOTR interesting anymore. They'd probably just have Sheamus or Del Rio beat everyone.
Especially with the death of Pay Per View eminent....Summer storyline is set up in June, KOTR winner vs WWE Champion. It's like the easiest stuff ever, and if you get the right guy it could really elevate his stock with casual fans. You don't have to make a new permanent main eventer, but at least it would give DIFFERENT guys a shot at the top for a time.
Sadly, they just don't care. It's more important to have a heel come out and say mean things then get beat up by Sheamus or Big Show, and then sheamus wins, orton wins, del rio wins.
