Hi Guys, New to the site, not even sure if this will be the correct section, i have been working on a few ideas as of late with regards to figures, one being the idea of using 3d Printing to achieve some unique wrestling model, i was a big fan of subbuteo as a kid, so thought why not try do something unique, therefore i have started with a simple 3d model no real detail and although final design if works out will only have basic feature being in the style of subbuteo i didn't want to complicate my first attempt. below is my first attempt, i haven't painted this one being my first attempt, the second one is on its way. What do you guys think? Cheers StaticEck

Cheers Guys the plan is to create era packs and package it in a Subbuteo style team box. The other idea i am working on is with clay and customizing old Hasbro figures, but again using 3d printing to create a mold of the part i require , first by 3d modeling the mold then printing to use to create multiples of the same parts quickly, the example although still early version i'm sharing is just a generic 3d rendered example and still needs some work and is based on the Hasbro figures which i'm a big fan of, i don't know yet if this is going to be a practical idea but once I've completed the design and received the 3d printed mold i guess i will find out

yes easily, 3d printing the plates would just be a cause of creating the plates design in drawing package and convert it to 3d for printing, easily done with free applications such as blender, only issue would be cutting material to shape and making sure plate was glued to material. you can even have stuff printed in metal, only issue is with full color which is currently from my understanding only in sandstone.

Very cool idea man! I love to see Blender getting loved and being used for this type of stuff, just practice on your molding in blender and it should be good to go. Keep us updated!

I love the Subbuteo idea -- I had some sets as a kid but never really got the hang of the game. Only just now found out from Googling that they still make them! £8-10 per team from Argos.
Something seems off about the Piper, the arms are too long maybe, but I'd love to see it finished and painted.

Thanks guys, yes the arms on the first attempt where to long i have a new one on way so hopefully it will be good enough to paint I also considered modeling the hasbro figures onto the subbuteo idea but decided to try make it unique. Below is a render of my attempt at modeling habsro model in the subbuteo style.

You have a 3d printer which is rare, but do you have any artistic ability? It doesn't seem that way. I'm afraid that with out it this will go poorly.

Good idea, but with the cost of the filament, the time to develop and paint, is it really worth it?

I am thinking of going this route for my headshop and making heads from this.
I heard the printers have come down in price and the quality has or is going to go up soon.

my concern with the 3d printing is the roughness of the 3d printed objects but was surprises how well it looks. As for the artistic ability comment, its a Subbuteo figure, you cant add any more detail to it.

Yes the roughness is what I was concerned about myself. But supposedly the patents are ending soon? And the quality is supposed to go up greatly whatever that means. Been thinking about doing this for my custom heads as Warsman screwed around a little with it before he retired. May have to look into investing in one soon.

Yes all the patents that are due to expire will be by the end of next year should see a difference to the cost and the quality. I am working on experimenting with creating molds rather actual models, using it as a tool rather creating one solid models,
