I work in Scotland, but live in England. So the only upside I can see from my point of view is I'll be able to claim my tax back. Although I'm sure the people wearing fancy suits will find a way around that loophole!

As an outside observer, this is very interesting to me as someone studying history and politics in university. I inadvertently took a history of England class this semester, knowing about the referendum but not knowing how close it was. My professor is an old Iranian man who grew up under British rule so his insight is nice to listen to.
I understand Scotland's desire to be independent, but it comes at a cost. If they want to be an independent nation, you can't really keep the old monarchy and their money.
I saw one of the debates and the Englishman arguing to keep Scotland pretty much drilled into the Scot "you won't be in the kingdom, thus you can't have our money" and he had no real comeback for that. It doesn't seem like there's a clear plan for finance and republic leadership. And while the EU IS an option it's not a good one. Look at Greece and Spain. They're crippled. America had the same problem, but the difference was we fought a bloody war for independence, in a time when the crown had full authority. It's different now.
Though I disagree with those who say the people shouldn't be the ones to decide. As someone who lives in a country that at one point separated into two because of (idealogical differences) politics and whether states beyond west of Kentucky should be able to come into the union free or slave, politicians aren't necessarily the best ones in cases like this to decide 5 million peoples nationalities. That's a decision that should be left up to said 5 million one way or the other. Could just be me though.

Yes we can have the pound sterling, it's ours too. The leader of the NO campaign 'Better Together' admitted this. 3. We won't be a republic, we will be be in the Commonwealth just like Australia & Canada, thus keeping her majesty the queen as head of state. 4. We are already in the EU & we don't have unregulated tax systems that a circus like Greece has, as well as a plethora of natural resources at our disposal. 5. Correct, decisions of this magnitude should be left to the people, people thinking that this should just be left to politicians are obviously not educated about their political freedoms & rights.

I'm dreading a yes vote. The thought of losing millions of our sane voters scares me. Having said that, it should absolutely be up to the Scots to decide their own fate.

Thing with our trams is that they didn't reach the full distance they were meant to due to overspending, they are always empty or near empty as they run the same routes as the buses which are more frequent, they took much longer than quoted to build and they are just a general ing annoyance

There seems to be huge interest in this in Ireland too at the moment. Loads of people hashing out the pros and cons you folks are facing.....
I don't really know what way my family are voting over there....I know they are split? But I dunno which camp holds the minority.

Eh, I just think its a bad idea for the Scottish people, and it'll hurt the rest of the UK if you leave too. It'll damage our economy, and Scotland's too. If you leave you can't use our currency (I mean, you could if you were desperate, but then we would have 100% control of your fiscal policy so whats the point of being independent? We're not letting you keep the pound and set your own fiscal policy after you've ed off and left us in the sh*t haha), you may struggle to rejoin the EU (and would definitely have to reapply), etc. etc. I'm not really a Labour supporter either, but if Scotland leave they'll have a real struggle to get a majority again anytime soon too. Reckon they'll vote no anyway so it should be ok.

For F*ck sake....are they Irish?? Of Course there is a serious generation of fools coming up here.....But I tell ya man.....that is so common its unreal. Gonna go off topic slightly here I remember a guy on Hisstank saying Roger Moore was his favourite Bond because he was actually British.....I told him ALL the Bonds except for Brosnan were British. He couldn't understand what I was talking about so I spelled it out for him......But he was getting stuck on the difference between being English and being British. Which is something I notice on U.S. tv a lot.....people from England are RARELY called English...always British.

I can't wait till this is over, i can't even have a pint at my local without everybody debating & falling out with each other.

A yes vote would be just a crap as the decision to re-build the tram lines in Edinburgh. Stupid ing useless trams. I've got a mate that moved down to Edinburgh for Uni. Sometimes I'll just ask how the trams are and watch him rant for a good 5-10 minutes. Excellent entertainment. Was Hollyrood not another disaster that was late, hugely over budget and looked awful? I hope it's a yes. We're already being patronised enough without embarrassing ourselves with a no after all this palava. And we'll be absolutely fine if it's a yes. We've got more than enough money flowing through the country to be able to sustain ourselves.
