Hi guys , A Mod and a Month who will remain nameless (Starts with a P and ends with a J and a month named June suggested I use a Clear coat Flat finish on my Machines while I preferred the pop that a gloss brings and that semi gloss Jakks always has so if you wouldnt mind please help me decide as I think the Glossy isnt to glossy but Flat adds way to my dullness , as always thanks for your impressions . PHOTO #1 GLOSS , PHOTO #2 FLAT
#1 GLOSS

Both look fine to me, but I prefer the more natural look of the dull finish (the second photo).

The only jakks that I can remember that had a dull flat finish was that horrible Andre that had flesh color wristbands and nipples . So maybe a flat body and and gloss boots ?

The gloss look may be more standard Jakks, but I don't believe it's the better choice. I'm glad you mentioned a flat body and gloss boots because that, for me, would be the ideal look.

But the more I look at all pieces all jakks CS tights have a gloss or a semi gloss except for a few I remember like nipple andre and Lawler black top singlet and all the big shows I use for Andre torsos have a gloss so I will do what never fails me.
I will put everything together and see if anything stands out and thats the key for me everything needs to blend for me and its not even for authentic appeal as it what looks best to me , thanks guys !

Both look great but I like the flat a bit better. I would only use glossy if the attire was more bright on colors.

Excellent point and it makes sense and the only non glossy pieces in a singlet I mentioned above werent highly glossy more of a flat so maybe it world be realistic in a jakks universe after all . After putting the big show stock singlet versus my custom its not even like jakks big show is glossy its just the black is darker , richer and mine kinda was muted . Currently watching SNME episode where Hogan gets attacked by Bundy , The Rock and Heenan ! now that was wrestling

Both look fine to me, and you're right that the gloss matches Jakks factory work very closely, but the matte finish does look more realistic. At any rate, looking forward to seeing a final product!

I say Gloss. Eventually with time the paint will turn to a dull shade on it's own.

See its driving me nuts but I have a few weeks before the masks come in but I just remembered my golden rule if something stands out and draws my attention its not a good thing kinda like if I put Chewbacca in my arena crowd and when I first saw the Andre CS the nipple one or Lawler black singlet top the dull color really distracts me but not in a bad way but I do like everything in a jakks stock way and all almost have that semi gloss .

Well this clearcoat I use seems to have issue with the rubber head and boot material ? seems to stay tacky but not on plastic torso so I gonna use the gloss on the boots . Funny thing JoJo Ralphs Wife accidentally still made the Machines outfits anyway and she did them stream line like I originally asked not bad but just look like overalls imo

Ill post some pics soon as Im waiting on the mask but as I said I had a sticky boot issue and I think it was the new clearcoat as I think Krylon changed the formula so I hope I can find a can of the old stuff as I think Krylon fusion is history also and they have a new name but it has a primer but it doesnt boast for plastics ? Well to avoid any possible issues with marks I removed the sticky boots and put on stock all black ones I had from my Beefcake mods and cleaned the black and clear coat from them as its a tough boot to find .

Definitely the flat. Looking forward to seeing the final product. Looking good! Thanks but Giant Machine was a prototype as his arms dont match the chest color and I hate that the most with jakks so he will be a redo but the others just had there feet switched and arms attached so now Im just waiting on Ralphs but the longer I wait the more I seem to order as its been over a month and a week. So basically I learned that its best to avoid painting or clear coating anything you dont have to as the flat blends pretty good naturally and I made a huge mistake painting the feet as all 3 became tacky over time ? and I used a good painters tape to keep a tight spray seam , also found saran wrap was the best protective shield as it damage stock jakks paint like tapes did , just rip saran and apply tight or even a some painters tape to secure but only on saran wrap . I think alot of my issues were patience you really gotta go slow and shake well and I also clean the nozzles with alcohol to avoid any spiting after each coat and go thin layers as one little heavy spot might never dry and always try and use the same color on the figure when possible when your painting as your paint as you will have crotch issue trying to cover up say red tights with back paint . Also the thin coat are as close as Jakks as you can get that really bond well and no chipping even on joints . I was told not to use Gloss spray paint as it has curing issues but with the Krylon Fusion I had no issues if I use it with thin coats but it seem to be discontinued or replaced and the clear coat too so I will see if its better or worse on my redo Andre . I also asked JoJo (Ralphs) to keep the masks skin tights but I guess I can always cut and stitch if need be so thanks again for all the feedback I will post pics as soon as everything is in .
