I never bought a single Jakks figure and can recall walking by many when they were available in stores. I always had a problem with the scale issue and some scans. When Mattel Legends came out, I thought they were the greatest figures I had ever seen. Yes, they were too small but the price tag wasn't too bad. Fast forwarding to today, the price tag is astronomical (especially here in Canada), most Elite sets are not coming into Canada, and Mattel's model of making the same current roster guys over and over again is brutal. I want Legends!
Anyway, this has led me to really looking back at Jakks and realizing that actually their figures are quite amazing. Yes, there is a scale issue and guys tend to be too muscular but these are toys after all. Jakks nailed it with most of their head scans and body types. Every Demolition set is awesome and the old Flairs a great. The price tag for getting these now isn't too bad even on ebay. I got a complete loose Harley Race for $13 shipping included on ebay and it is in excellent shape. The Race body is very close to the real life counterpart - a little overweight.
My son and I are now waiting for Flair to arrive - he got the green robe one and I the Starrcade 83 blue robe. They both are coming with robes but no belts which is ok since I have many toybiz domed globes. We each paid slight more at $25 each including shipping but I still thought that wasn't too bad for flair.
Jakks seemed to be more geared to the older collector like myself whereas Mattel is geared to the younger crowd. I should have come to this realization long ago!

I prefer mattel figures because the quality is better. Jakks figures get loose arm joints over time and the scale is pretty bad e.g Rey Mysterio.

Yes, Rey Mysterio is pretty bad, and yes the joints do get quite loose with play. Since I won't be playing except for posing I am not too worried about that. I just like that Jakks made such a great Legends roaster that it can take awhile to get who I want, and for the most part, everyone I want Jakks made. I know Mattels Flashback/Legends roster will never be able to come close to what Jakks did.

Yes, it is too bad Jakks didn't have the rights for Steamboat and Savage. Their WM 3 match is one of the best matches I had ever seen and for the most part, that match stole the show. I will have to look up and see a good Jakks custom formula for Steamboat and Savage.

Jakks every time for me. Do you have all the guys you wanted or are you still buying off of ebay, etc.?

I want at least one of everyone plus some customs so still buying. I also have some Rocky, TNA and UFC.
I like ebay as I often end up accumulating duplicates from lots which I can keep for customs.

I think both Mattel and Jakks have their pros and cons, but for sheer volume of different stars, Jakks dominates.

I collect both Jakks and Mattel. I do however like that jakks has made more legends or classic wrestlers. I hope to one day finish my classic superstar moc collection.

I'll be making a Starrcade '83 ring as well as an old-school WWF one for my son since he lost the last one I made due to a sewer back-up in the basement back in June. Yuck!

I completely agree with you mrsask. I'm an older collector myself, 30 years old. There's something about the JAKKS line that I'll always be connected to, probably because that was line I grew up with during my childhood. But the Jakks Classic Superstars line will be my all time favorite line. The packaging and figure selection was top notch. They were presented as a "collectors" figure and were well priced. Who the hell wants to pay $20 for one Elite figure?

You're the first one that I know to move from Mattel to Jakks, mostly now that Mattel stepped up its game and is releasing hella dope figures. I'm more of a Mattel guy, but whenever I see a Jakks figure I like, I hunt it down. I just find Jakks lovely for some reason. i suggest you pick up the WWE Hardcore ring as it is the best non-RSR ring to date
and G.L. on the figure huntin Definitely.

The great thing about it is that with patience, I can get a lot of jakks guys who I want new in package on ebay for LESS or the same as the price for Mattel Elites in the store!

I will always be a Mattel guy. No matter what. It's just that they can't push all these legends out at once. And we've gotten Edge and Christain Flashbacks. Jakks didn't do that. Jakks didn't give us Macho Man or Steamboat. It's just that they also have to push out current guys to. So get used to it.

Hate to sound like a broken record but mattel can have the WWF contract for 50 years and never equal half of the Jakks CS Legend line EVER ! If you recall almost immediately after Mattel announced a legends line they cancelled it after they got the numbers as its all about money . So yeah you might get a few Hulks now and multiple MM over and over but will you ever get a announcer crew , Mean Gene , Vince , Fink and Jesse , A Danny Davis ref and multiple of many wrestlers ? I mean two WM rsr multiple playsets and accessories like pipers pit and the snake pit , Tons of Weasels , Captain Lou , Freddie Blassie , Jimmy Hart and Mr Fuji and the list can go on forever , killer bees , powers of pain , natural disasters , wild Samoans ect . Mattel will always have more holes then swiss cheese with concerns to a CS Legend roster ALWAYS ! but that being said always collect what you like but dont fool yourself either thinking you'll EVER see Tony Atlas , Superstar Billy Graham , leapin Lanny Poffo ,Giant Gonzalez , Harvey Whippleman , Brooklyn Brawler because you will be sadly disappointed and this is why I enjoy my Jakks

I prefer Mattel over Jakks due to being in scale, more realistic headscans, tight joints and better quality.
