I missed all of this year. Recently I heard from you guys it's a solid year. Since I struggle with what to watch on the network I decided to trek through it. I only wish they had all the Raw and Smackdown episodes up too.
Anyway I am going to use this thread for my thoughts from show to show. Feel free to join me.
Starting with Royal Rumble (obviously)
I love seeing shows take place in the Garden. I like the smallness yet how it carries a big time feel.
Ric Flair Vs MVP
I wasn't too crazy about this match. Not that it was bad. It just didn't draw me in. I did like the way they handed Flairs road to "retirement" from a storyline standpoint. Great set up for what we all know was an iconic Wrestlemania moment.
(The whole Hornswoggle being Vinces bastard son is so dumb. Wasn't that supposed to be Kennedy?)
Chris Jericho Vs JBL
Good storytelling here. Not only from the guys in the ring but on commentary. I know I've said it before but it's worth saying again. I miss commentary that focuses on what is going on in the ring. Jericho juicing surprised me. Just goes to show you how much I'm used to not seeing that these days. I started to say I don't like the way this one ended but considering the build to the match I suppose it makes sense.
Edge Vs Rey Mysterio
I'm surprised at the number of boos Rey gets here. Match of the night so far. The two work very well together and I really enjoy the pace. Would have been a better opener in my opinion.
(Santino was such a great heel! Can anyone tell me what his association with Maria was?)
Jeff Hardy Vs Randy Orton
I'm usually indifferent two both of these guys but there is no denying this is a good match. Nice and hard hitting.
Rumble match
Surprised to see Taker as the first entrant. HBK number 2! That's awesome. Lol at the 'you can't wrestle' chant for Kahli. You gotta love the NYC crowd. Seeing Punk come in and start hitting those high knees makes me sad. I don't care what anyone says, I miss that dude. As always the rumble is fun.
Overall I'd simply call this event average. If any of you disagree please tell me why.

One of the biggest moments in 2008 was John Cena's shocking return as the 30th entrant in the 2008 Royal Rumble. This is one of those rare moments that the dirtsheets didn't spoil. The WWE did a tremendous job keeping this closely guarded. When Cena came out, I yelled "Holy ****" over and over again. The crowed at Madison Square Garden helped the surprise shock factor. I wished they had episodes of RAW & SmackDown from 2008 as well.

Everything after the two first matches was really good stuff. I look forward to this trek through 2008 bro.
I'm actually going through 1993 and the following years, Raws included, and reviewing them for a website I write for.

It funny you made this thread on the seventh anniversary of John Cena being stripped of the WWE Championship. Thus, ending his 380-day reign as champion. One of the reasons why the crow popped like they did was because Cena was slated to miss out of WrestleMania XXIV.

It funny you made this thread on the seventh anniversary of John Cena being stripped of the WWE Championship. Thus, ending his 380-day reign as champion. One of the reasons why the crow popped like they did was because Cena was slated to miss out of WrestleMania XXIV. When did his injury take place? On the October 1st, 2007 episode of RAW. This was when he tore his pectoral muscle. The word going around that John Cena was going to miss out and not be on the card for WrestleMania XXIV. Cena was stripped of the WWE Championship the following day and subsequently made the announcement on ECW on Sci-Fi. Cena was slated to square off against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match. Due to the circumstances, No Mercy 2007 had three WWE Championship matches. Looking back, No Mercy 2007 and the Fall of 2007 was a really strange time period.

No Way Out 2008
CM Punk Vs. Chavo
Decent match. Not happy about Chavo going over. I've always found him boring. He's an okay wrestler but he's no Eddie. One has to wonder why they were pushing him here.
Smackdown Elimination Chamber
MVP Vs. Big Daddy V Vs. Kahli Vs. Finaly Vs. Batista Vs. Undertaker
Before this match starts all I can think is, could they have made it any more obvious who the winner would come down to. There's no way it was going to be anyone but Batista or Taker. Here we go again with the 'you can't wrestle' chant. Poor Kahli. He at least seemed to move around a little better back then. I gotta give it to them though. Despite the mixed bag of participants, it's been a pretty good match. I love the exchanges between Batista and Taker in this. They make the entire match IMO. Also the crowd is hot. Gotta love it.
Kennedy Vs. Ric Flair
This is definitely a good one. Better than the match with MVP the month before. Flair sold that leg like a champ.
Edge VS. Mysterio
I feel like overall the match from Rumble was better but I gotta give it to them for the storytelling.
Randy Orton Vs. John Cena
I'm not typically a fan of these two facing off but this match was good.
Raw Elimination Chamber
HBK Vs. JBL Vs. Jeff Hardy VS. Jericho Vs. Triple H Vs. Umaga
See, this match is stacked. All are believable to get a shot at the big one. Good match.

Maria was Santino's Girlfriend. I figured that out. How did it start?

I tell ya this....I'm no Cena fan by any stretch....never have been. But when he returned at the 2008 RR I marked.
Why you ask?
Because the thoughts of HHH winning the RR made me physically ill and I knew Cena was gonna win when I seen this.

WrestleMania 24
JBL Vs. Finaly
This match is great. They just straight up kick each others ass. I love when Finaly flys through the middle rope and JBL hits him in the head with that cookie sheet.
Money In The Bank
John Morrison Vs. Carlito Vs. Shelton Benjamin Vs. CM Punk Vs. Kennedy Vs. MVP Vs. Jericho
I honestly don't know what to say about this match. So much awesome stuff. Always love these matches.
Umaga Vs. Batista
I expect this to be hard hitting. It's a shame Umaga wasn't around longer. Idk about you guys but I could have seen him with a transition run with the wwe title. That gimmick just worked. Decent match. Idk how I feel about Batista winning simply because I've always been primarily a Raw guy.
Chavo Vs. Kane
Honestly this feels like a throw away match to me. And I was proved right...seeing that it lasted all off three seconds. Geeze.
(Wtf at the Carlito and Maria skit. LOL)
HBK Vs. Ric Flair
I've seen this one before and I don't think anything else on the card can top it. That video package. Them feels man. Them feels. This is just a straight up classic. One I'm seriously sad I didn't get to watch the night it took place. Flair and Michaels both prove why they are two of the best of all time.
(Edge's promo was intense. Talking about crushing a kids dream.)
Bunnymania
Well... There was that. At least the girls are hot. Lol King punching Santino and Snoops involvement was cool and honestly the match wasn't TOO bad.
Triple H Vs Cena Vs Orton
I'm looking for Cena to make this match. Orton doesn't have good in ring chemistry with either of them in my opinion. Damn I honestly love Cena's fisherman suplex. That was actually a damn good match and I'm sincerely shocked Orton retained. Great ending though.
Big Show Vs. Floyd Mayweather
This honestly isn't bad for what it was. They managed to be entertaining and I suppose that's what matters.
Undertaker Vs. Edge
Another great match.
This was a very solid event. Definitely my favorite so far from this trek through 2008

Man, John Cena's return at the 2008 Royal Rumble was one of those rare "Holy ****" and "What The ****?" moments in wrestling. When Cena came out, I was on the edge of my seat. I remember my brother and I bumping into two former members of WrestlingFigs at the Times Square Toys R Us earlier that day. Brad, if you watched both Undertaker/Edge and Michaels/Flair live, you would have been on the edge of your seat. I too, was shocked Randy Orton retained the WWE Championship. WrestleMania XXIV is easily one of the best 'Mania's in recent memory. The flow was well done and damn, Charles Robinson ran as fast as he could.

Brad, I'm sorry, but Cena's 'Fisherman's Suplex' is an affront to the actual Fisherman's Suplex. A sloppy suplex with him trying to grab the underside of the knee is what I see IMO. I like what you're doing mate...2008 was a year where I barely paid attention to WWE, instead more enamoured with ROH and Pro Wrestling NOAH, but that's just me.

I might have to rewatch all the shows from 2008. That was a big year for me. I graduated high school the day before the extreme rules ppv.

Brad, glad you got to see WrestleMania 24. One of my all time favorite WrestleManias, with my second favorite Streak match, Edge/Undertaker. HBK/Flair is fantastic too.

WrestleMania 24 is one of the best Mania's ever. Edge/Taker was ing fantastic and MOTN. I feel like Flair/HBK is quite overrated although it was a good match. Quality matches all over, I love it.
