“Jayson? Can I talk to you for a second?”
A guy holding a WFWF camera wearing a polo shirt comes jogging over. I’m not in the mood. Once again the evening hasn’t gone my way. This time I was pinning by Josh Dean. Then came Zmey and Samuel along with that stupid security force, once again. Then Chase Landon returned to presumably show something to me or to them. Maybe even to WFWF management to show everyone that he isn’t just gone and they’d strip the title from him and give it to me. I don’t know. That seems to be a theme with what’s happened with Chase. Me not knowing, and I don’t like it. That was the first glimpse of Chase Landon I’d gotten since Superbrawl. Just like a ghost he vanished as soon as I came back here to look and ask for questions. Now I’m stopped by a stupid cameraman who’s giving me a countdown whether I want to or not, which I don’t.
“Alright, and rolling in three, two, one (he points). Well Jayson, obviously you're disappointed with your loss to Josh, but what had this crowd buzzing after the match was the return of the other half of the tag team champions Chase Landon. What were your thoughts when Chase saved you from another DMK ordered attack?”
Yet again I’m being asked a Chase question. All people have thought about since last show when I was jumped by Samuel and the midgets was, “When’s Chase going to come save you?” That always bothered me. The mere thought that Chase Landon, the guy everyone calls Rat Boy, this freak that went to a mental ward is going to be the one who saves Jayson Garrett? Me. The Hollywood megastar. The guy who everyone calls The Golden Boy. That isn’t how it works. I dismiss the cameraman.
“First and foremost, as far as I'm concerned, Chase Landon isn't the tag team champion. I've carried these belts around on my own since Superbrawl. If Chase thinks he can waltz in and take credit for any of what I've done, then he has another thing coming. I'll work together for me. As for what I think? You'll find out when I decide to let everyone know. I'm done here, I'm leaving.”
I grab my bag from the floor and walk off out of the frame where the cameraman set up. He called out to me as I left.
“Wait, Jayson! Can you just stick around a little longer, we’d really like an answer.”
I don’t respond. Instead I walk out, for the second week deciding to head home after a long week’s worth of PR and travel and a big show. Jayson Garrett has left the arena.
Finally being home has given me a chance to think about the happenings to me here. First, a loss to Josh Dean. I admit that I gave it all I had. Josh was able to just edge me out. If anyone though has any questions on whether I’ll be focused on the loss, I would be more than happy to fix those for them. For far too long I was worried about the past. I have dwelled on previous losses, made excuses, and just flat out ignored upcoming challenges. That was the rookie Jayson Garrett. I am not a rookie anymore. I’d learned from experiences I had on big stages wrestling men like Joe Bishop, Trace Demon, and even Shawn Malakai. I used that to catapult myself into championship matches and even some gold that I’ll still be holding onto for the rest of my life. Though when I ran into the occasional setback I would never admit defeat. I could blame the referees, I could blame the timekeeper, and I’d even blame the ring. I’ve learned since that time. Since I’ve started the greatest lesson I’ve learned was that just because I lose doesn’t mean I’m no longer the hottest property and best in-ring talent the WFWF has ever seen. The loss to Josh Dean and previous losses to men like Drakz have only just fueled my fire. That hasn’t made me fall down or loss my confidence. In fact, it has made me become that much better. The rookie me wouldn’t learn. That was a side effect of my ignorance. Now, I’m prepared. I know what I have to do to stop my opponents this week. You can guarantee I know what I’ll have to down to not just stop but demolish Samuel and Zmey.
Samuel and Zmey, you two men have one heck of a match don’t you? Main event against Cameron Stone and Penny Shannon? I’m sure this’ll be your message as a team sent right to me in the main event. I’m not going to back down though. I don’t need Chase Landon to take you both out and send DMK whimpering to the back by your sides as you get carted out on stretchers. These tag team title belts are staying with me. It won’t matter if you snap my arm while I’m in there. I’ll get right back up, spit in all three of your faces, and dare you to break the other. I’m aware of the fact that you’re going to attempt to destroy Stone and Shannon to prove something to me but this is my week to prove something to you once more. R.J. Wilson and Brett Diamond will serve as precursors to what you two will receive, I promise.
R.J. and Brett since you both are new guys here in the WFWF, allow me to give you a proper introduction. I am Jayson Garrett. I am the WFWF World Tag Team champion. I am going to be your welcoming committee as a team. I will not be giving you any gifts other than maybe a broken nose if you get off lucky. R.J. sees himself as an individual, unique, a special little snowflake because he’s edgy and does cool things that some of the crowd likes. R.J.’s first lesson here in the WFWF is going to be something I didn’t learn for a while. Just because you are, or in his case, he thinks, the greatest thing to hit the WFWF and are important doesn’t mean everyone in the WFWF is going to roll over and die at your hands. Walking into the WFWF and being handed all that you’ve ever wanted isn’t something that’s going to happen to you, nor anyone else, against me. This match isn’t your stepping stone to something great. This one is mine to things even greater than what I’ve done.
I don’t care about your favorite bands, I don’t care about your wild moves, I don’t care about your face paint, and I don’t care about your past. Welcome to my world as a rookie. When I walked in to that arena door on my first night in Miami I was prepared to have every wrestler in the locker room fall on their knees. I’m sure you felt the same your first night in Baltimore. You were a star in the little lakes and rivers before you stepped into the big ocean of the WFWF. Now you’re going to fall to me on my quest to the top. I’m going to knock you down. You can count on that.
Brett Diamond you’re a bit different. You were always looked down upon when you were younger then you got to feel like you were worth something playing football. I’m going to knock you down too. I’m sure you’re used to getting hit while playing football, but this’ll be different. I’m going to hit much harder than anyone you played against. You don’t get to wear a helmet or any pads. I’m going to punch you in the mouth. You might just shrivel up and die after that. That’ll be the difference between us. I’m always going get right back up after you knock me down. You were able to use your pads to your advantage in football and didn’t have to worry about getting punched in the face in high school wrestling. In this ring though, you’ll have to worry about both of those things. You won’t know whether I’m just going to kick your lights out right out the gate or keep you in the match long enough to kick your head in. Or maybe I’ll just fell you with EGADS from the top proving that in both yours and R.J.’s infinite moves from the top I’ll still be the best even if I do it once a match because I am that good. Brett and R.J. this will be your final warning to you from me about our match. I’m not expecting you to get out of my way. I just hope you know your breaking point because if you don’t then you’re going to find out what it is very soon thanks to yours truly.
