Something that I don't quite understand...
A little background: I used to collect figures in the late 90s and then stopped for a very long time. Until recently. Started back up in April and I'm sitting at around 80 elites. Now, I truly love these figures. I really do. Hats off to Bill and everyone else at Mattel.
Now here's what I don't get. A lot of people seem to complain about Mattel scans or attire selections. Or just plain and simple lineup selections. I hope I don't come across as argumentative, but seriously compared to Jakks and those before Mattel, Mattel blows them out of the water. I mean the figures are innovative and the scans are typically on point. And when they aren't, they are still a whole lot better than anything else.
So in a very friendly way, I say to you: why complain?

That's the same question I've asked myself numerous times. So many complain about the most tedious things/details. I have been content with Mattel since I began collecting there line.

Its as simple as this: You can please some people all the time, but never please all the people sometimes.
No matter what, there will always be a complaint about something. Some are valid complaints, like Legends Snuka not released in his most iconic trunks/barefoot look. Or Legends Mr.Perfect being to tall.
Then, there are the complaints that are just beyond words. Like one I read today " Being quite honest, a WCW Machoan just won't sell!" Really? Its The Macho Man!!! He could be released unpainted, and collectors would have a hay-day with him.

I completely agree with Snuka and Mr. Perfect. Both heartbreaking. But I'm confident they rerelease in correct attire and body, respectively.
In the grand scheme of things, Mattel is kicking ass and will continue to kick ass. Sure, there are a few things here and there. But isn't that just how things go? One day that Big Mac is going to taste so good... Next time you go it seems they threw it together with no love right? But you go back anyways.

Some people are waaaay to nit picky with figures. I am pleased with about 99% of Mattel figs headscans. The only ones I don't like are basic 27 cesaro, elite 8 edge, boppv and Heyman punk and all dean Ambrose's scans. Other than that, the headscans are close or spot on to the real. I really don't have any complaints with skin tones minus bp21 Darren young and Titus; both were too dark. All tattoos are always spot on. And I don't complaint about attire choice, because if it's accurate, then I'm happy. Sometimes, I get upset they choose one attire over another (legends 2 Snuka) but Whatta ya going to do about it. Mattel is substantial compared to any other brand.

Collecting is supposed to be a hobby not a chore, yet some here take it way too serious.

People have the right to complain if they choose. Mattel is the exclusive WWE figure producer and, rightfully so, the consumer should be able to express their voice. I understand that many of the complaints and nitpicks people have are unreasonable but if no one speaks out there will never be improvement. That being said Mattel has never disappointed me. These are the best wrestling figures ever produced, in my opinion.

Collecting is supposed to be a hobby not a chore, yet some here take it way too serious. I agree. I buy them because i enjoy them. Im not nearly as harsh on Jakks as some either. I enjoyed most of their output until the last few releases anyway. Bottom line, i wouldnt buy them if they werent fun to collect. The only complaints i generally have is some of the QC issues that creep up. Bad paint or slop on figures where there shouldn't be.....hands barely attatched. That sort of thing. Although that being said, L3 Mr Perfects towering size has always bugged me.

It's the internet. People will complain about anything and everything. You could give someone the shirt off your back and someone would say you were just trying to show off your abs.

Part of it feels like, to me, that Mattel has set such a high bar for itself that when they don't meet that bar people notice and complain. Honestly, I think Mattel does a spectacular job overall. I do think the QC needs to improve and some of the futures scans they've previewed look pretty off to me, though.

Ziggler and Rhodes' parts since E19 bother me. The time for a barefoot Snuka is running out. Those are the only two things I see that need corrected.

I collect Marvel Legends as well, and in comparison the WWE figures are masterpieces in that regard.

I think people just get frustrated sometimes.
The bottom line is that these "toys" are expensive, and I think the more we pay, the higher quality figure we should receive. However, this is not always the case. As the prices go UP, the quality has gone DOWN. The quality has gone down in terms of quality control, ie, sloppy paint jobs, warped parts, backwards feet.
And the quality has also gone down in terms of the realistic body parts used for the figures. We need some more torso choices, arm choices, leg choices, so that guys who clearly do not have the same type of body are not getting the same type of parts. And I know JAKKS was even worse at this with no scale and overuse of the same parts, but Mattel's figures are the most expensive wrestling figures EVER, so I expect a lot.
Also, part choices are a little strange sometimes. I don't expect them to make a new part for everyone's unique shoe or boot, but when they have parts that would be better options and choose not to use them, it's a little odd. The short boots on Billy Gunn and Lex Luger come to mind right away. Billy Gunn should have gotten the LOD boots, as his knee pads have ALWAYS touched his boot tips, and Lex should have gotten the tall boots like Taker gets, as his knee pads always touched his boot tips as well.
And obviously, I think them giving retro Shawn Michaels figures the same kickpads that Jericho and Daniel Bryan figures currently get annoys EVERYONE. What HBK used yo wear and what Y2J/DBry currently wear could not be more different.
Another thing that annoys people, as the price goes up, the accessories and quality of the accessories are going down. One Entrance Greats Undertaker has ever come out with a leather coat. If Sting comes with the hard rubber shell coat, I'm going to be pissed because at a $24.99 price point, I expect more than what a regular Elite would come with.
So in conclusion, I think people complain because they pay a lot of money and they expect a little bit more. Mattel's WWE figures are the best that have every been made, don't get me wrong, but when I can sit here and think of 5 better parts a guy should have been given instead of what the finished product actually came with, it's a little annoying especially considering the money I'm dropping.

You can't say don't complain about something because what you're getting now is better than anything before. Thats not the point. With constructive criticism you actually improve products. The goal is to get as accurate/high quality products as perfect as possible. Its a working process. If you don't voice certain things that are not being taken care of then you lose your right as a consumer to let the brand know what works, what doesn't etc. These days the paint jobs is lacking. There's botches and chips on the figures right out the box. Thats inexcusable and Mattel needs to know about that so it doesn't happen again.

Mattels are the best wrestling figures ever. But one thing they couldn't seem to get quite right.... is the Rey Mysterio headscan.

Just for reference, how much did Jakks equivalent to an Elite figure cost? It's been almost 5 years so I can't be sure, but I believe that at their most expensive, JAKKS DA figures never got more than 11.99 and RA figures were like 8.99 - 9.99. Mattel Elites started at $14.99 and are up to 18.99 - 21.99 in most places. It's getting out of control.
