saw this off Scott Keith's blog....thought I'd share imgur.com/a/snEEh#0(original link: www.rspwfaq.net/2014/11/debut-to-champion.html)pretty incredible stuff to be honest. this is strictly WWF/WWE Champion. no WCW or NWA or even World Heavyweight. When it gets to CM Punk it's pretty hilarious what the guy did. Some of those numbers are shocking to say the least. Some of the debut dates are actually a bit off...but we're talking months here, not that big a deal Some are not....but it really puts things into perspective when we all have gotten pissed off that a guy like Del Rio or Sheamus got the WWE title "so fast"....when many others were not far off.

I find it a little ironic that the man who has the most World Titles has the longest gap in between debuting and winning the WWE title.

Pedro Morales going TWO MONTHS in the WWWF before becoming champion is insane. If someone did that today the Internet might catch fire.

It's a shame they don't really care about doing this stuff properly anymore...

It was cool, but I don't like how they counted dark matches. Orton's match on Jakked in 2001 shouldn't count, and Sheamus dark match in 2008 especially shouldn't count.

I've always been a fan of seeing someone work their way to the top over a couple of years. Unfortunately too many of today's fans except instant championship reigns or they cry backstage politics.
Seeing that it took many many years for Bret, HBK, Edge, etc... shows that not everything has to happen overnight.

Once a guy doesn't win a World Title within a year or so of his debut, it's because Vince has a problem with the guy or something like that. But, if a guy wins within the year, it was too rushed (see Del Rio, Alberto or Swagger, Jack) I've personally always liked it when it takes a guy a few years to make it to the top of the mountain.

It's a shame they don't really care about doing this stuff properly anymore... I want to clarify... it was great when Diesel captured the triple crown within (roughly) his first year in the WWF. But even in that time, he did get built up gradually. He had the cool performance at the Royal Rumble, the tainted win over Razor for the IC title, the near-win of the WWF title at King of the Ring (IMO his real coming-out party that established him as a player), the dominance as the anchor of the tag team champions, and finally squashing Backlund (which was pretty believable at the time, considering how he was trucking everyone in the company leading up to that). That 10-month stretch is a microcosm for how you should be building new stars. Nowadays their strategy just seems like it's "get as many titles on this guy's resume so we can mention them during his matches" with no regard to the significance that things like first title shot/first title win/first World title shot/first World title win. For the guys from the begging of the Attitude Era and before, I have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of these career milestones. Nowadays Sheamus is like a two-time world champ (even though I couldn't tell you who he beat, what show it was at, who he lost it to, or how long he had the belt for either of his reigns) and Chris Jericho is like an 11-time IC champ. Remember how cool it was when Razor Ramon won his 4th IC title and they made it a huge deal? Now it's just lazy credibility padding that destroys the value of every belt and of the wrestlers who are playing hot potato with them.

Pedro Morales going TWO MONTHS in the WWWF before becoming champion is insane. If someone did that today the Internet might catch fire. It would definitely further show the hypocrisy of the IWC depending on who would do it. Say someone like Mojo Rawley were to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship two months from his debut. The internet would explode with hatred for the decision, saying, "He's not ready!1!1!1" But if Finn Balor did it, people would go crazy with praise. "Thank you, WWE, for pushing new talent!" disregarding the fact that he wouldn't be ready either.

Problem with today is if they don't throw it on you while you're hot then you never get another chance. Look at Wade Barrett, hottest heel in the world and once he lost his title match he never had another.

But someday I think his day will come.

Well, he was a good enough heel to actually get Cena cheered so there's that. Which not even Lesnar could do with his super monster heel run.

Even if he won, he would have been sandow'd and lost. You think Wade would beat anyone for THE title as Bad News Barrett? I would trade anything to get him just 1 show, even 1 segment as champ.

I don't think anybody ever thought Barrett would win MITB, why would they? Barrett was building steam as IC Champ and was getting a lot of attention. He clearly was in the middle of another push and he got injured. It's not the first time an injury stopped his momentum. Barrett is his own worst enemy.

No, Jack Swagger and Big Show are lol, neither of his injuries were a botch on his part.

He's prone to injuries when he starts gaining traction, that will ruin management's views on him, regardless of his fault or not.
