Sadly, it's not on a channel I get, but it's better than nothing. Hopefully by the time it starts we'll have it. And if not, I'll find a way to watch, as NJPW on a weekly basis would be amazing. I wonder who will be commentating.

That should be an interesting team. Doesn't top JR for Wrestle Kingdom, but I wasn't expecting it to. Thanks.

Ranallo and Barnett are far more knowledgable on the New Japan product as well as the Puroresu style, I think they're better at this current time.

For folks who haven't heard Mauro do play-by-play for wrestling, here's him doing the English commentary for Kobashi vs. Akiyama (recorded around '06/'07):
With all his Showtime MMA/boxing experience, I'm interested to hear how his announcing style's progressed since then.
Good to have some pro wrestling back on AXS, as I've only caught ROH near the tail end and one or two DREAM cards.

I'm looking more forward to Wrestle Kingdom 9 than this new NJPW show. I'm on the fence on this since the shows they're airing are from 2013. Hopefully if this show takes off, they can show more recent events/matches from NJPW. But heck, at least I'll get to see what NJPW is all about.

My statement is based more on my opinion of JR than anyone else. I'm in the camp of people who believe he is the greatest commentator of all time. He has the ability to make anything seem important and is working really hard to be ready for this show. As excited as I would be for the card anyway, I'd be lying if I said JR wasn't part of the reason I'm getting Wrestle Kingdom. Just getting to hear him call an AJ Styles match will be amazing. I'm also really hoping Adam Cole is in the ROH title match for the same reason. The way he is hyping the show already has bee great, and they really need to get those videos in front of more people. I'm expecting at least as many buys as ROH got for Best in the World, but people have to know about it. On a separate note, I wonder why they're using matches from 2013 instead of more recent ones. Hopefully it's a way to get people familiar with the product and they'll eventually start being more up to date.

I'm hoping that them choosing to air matches from 2013 is just kind of a "testing the waters" thing that could lead to more current programming in the future if it is well recieved. AXStv used to air all of the DREAM (Japanese MMA company) events live. Them deciding to air NJPW events wouldn't be that far fetched.
In a dream world, some of the bigger NJPW shows (Wrestle Kingdom, Dontaku, G1 Final, etc.) could be distributed by GFW on PPV, and others could air on AXS either live or on tape delay.
Imagine every night of the G1 on an American TV network.
But for now, I'll take what I can get. I'll watch the hell out of this show.

Old matches because the current stuff will probably be involved with GFW

I'm guessing they'll do the more up to date product if this project is successful, cause it's only scheduled for 13 episodes, so I guess they'll test it out for 13 weeks, then if the show is a success, it'll take a few months off and they'll show more recent stuff, or the product from the time they took off on AXS.

I wonder what they'll see as successful. The network has limited viewership, so I would imagine it's pretty low. I hope they at least get the audience Lucha Underground has been. But being an HD only channel, I don't know if they're even in as many homes as El Rey. I'll have to download or go to my Brother's house to watch it.

Well, I read that the episodes that will air were already broadcasted in TV Asahi and it will debut on January 16.

So, comcast's website says they carry axs, which is great. And I could of sworn I'd seen it listed as a station before. But I'm gone through my channels multiple times, but don't see it listed anywhere. I really don't want to get my hopes up, but it's hard not too. I'd gladly give up El Rey for this!

His style hasn't changed much, but he's an excellent play by play announcer. I'm elated to find NJPW on my television.
