Get whichever your friends have. If you have no friends, I suggest not getting the console and instead going and making some!

I got the PS4 on launch but recently and reluctantly traded it for an XB1 because all my friends had it. I like the PS4 but I think the XB1 is a lot better and I don't regret making the switch.

I'd say PS4, that's what more people seem to be leaning towards, plus my brother has told me that the Networks performance on his XBox One has sucked, but works well on his iPad.

Play nice, your Scot is showing. It's really up to you what you get though. I'm a Microsoft fanboy, so I got a One. But I won't lie, I love some of Sony's exclusives. Most MAJOR games come out in both consoles so maybe go with what has the most exclusives you would like. You dig Little Big Planet, Uncharted and inFamous? Go Sony. If Halo, Dead Rising and Gears is more your style, go One. Really depends on that bro.

Whichever one has the games you want to play. If you're going for multiplats, PS4 would probably be the way to go, especially if you want to play online where a lot of the communities will be bigger due to having a bigger install base.
I will also add this. I have both a PS4 and an Xbone. The PS4 has never broken down or stopped working. The Xbone has needed to be sent in twice within three months of having it.

I won an xbox one for 50 bucks on quibids but otherwise I would of went with a PS4. Though I do enjoy my xbox one more than I expected. Idk if the PS4 has the feature or not because I'm out of the loop with current gen system features but I love how you can minimize games and go on other apps then open the game up and instantly jump back into where you left off. I'm lazy so setting up a game was something that actually made me lose interest in playing so this is perfect for me lmao

Exclusive titles is what helped me make my decision.
Last of Us, Uncharted and other Playstation exclusive titles helped me make the decision to get a PS4.

I got an Xbox One because I prefer the controller and I wanted to keep the profile I'd built up on the 360 over the last near decade. I think both consoles are excellent though and want a PS4 as soon as I can afford one.

The XBOX and PS consoles are almost exactly the same, so it all boils down to which of the few exclusives they get that you like better.

I went with a PS4 after having an Xbox 360 because I felt like Microsoft was taking their customers for granted. Seems like other folks felt this way, too.
There are some cool exclusives Microsoft has, probably better than the Sony exclusives IMO, but their is more to choosing a console than just that.

I've had my Xbox One since day one and never had any issues with it Nothing. First time I had to send it in was because the day I got it happened to be the day that Microsoft released an update that bricked all newly activated consoles. I have to send it in again because I got a message saying that there's a hardware failure inside which also wasn't limited just to me. Ask Valbroski; he had the same thing happen. Both times were completely on Microsoft and all out of my hands. I take good care of all of my gaming equipment and still have old consoles and handhelds that work back to the Sega Genesis and its shoddy power cable. Literally the only other time I've had a console break was my first PS3 which got the YLoD and even that was after five years of use (And my brother leaving the thing on for days at a time with PS2 games in the disc drive the little er...). So yeah, I did nothing to my console at all because I'm responsible.

I'd personally go for whichever console that you're most familiar with. The differences between the two are really only dependent on the exclusive titles. Personally I prefer the Xbox One, I feel like Sony has lost their edge with exclusive titles, and now Microsoft is stockpiling exclusives, similar to what the PS3 did towards the end of the last generation.
