Just saw an interesting post on Reddit that I wanted to discuss here with everyone.
Given how the podcast with Vince went down, it was made pretty clear that Austin still believes in pro-wrestling and not so much "sports entertainment". He was very critical of Vince and seemed almost disappointed with today's product.
Do you think things would change for the better if Austin found himself in a talent relations or booking role?

I'd think so.

It'd be cool for Austin to be able to work from home and call into creative meetings or something.

Put Austin and JR in a creative role. Was it me, or did Austin try to get JR's job back during their podcast? Lol.

Off topic but have you seen Austin's arms lately? He is huge! Hasn't aged a bit. In fact, he's put on more muscle since retirement.

I'd rather see a few more matches from Austin but I'd be down for this to happen. While we're at it put J.R and Heyman on creative please Vince.

It'd be cool for Austin to be able to work from home and call into creative meetings or something. Never gonna happen. You could tell that Vince was still pissed about JR moving from Connecticut back to Oklahoma to work from home, even though it was like ten years ago.

The difference between Austin and Vince is that Austin has his opinions, but actually listens to the audience, seemingly reads their emails, and connects with them via his podcast outlet and social media. Vince hears the audience but he's not listening. Did you see how put-off Vince was by Austin telling fans to voice their opinion on WWE and Vince's Twitter? It was like he sh*t in Vince's cereal. It was perfectly clear that Vince doesn't want to hear from the audience.
Austin is disappointed because he comes from an era where guys were given an opportunity to get over, the product was modern and relevant, and Vince was a risk taker, because he had to be. The times are completely different now, sadly. Do I think Austin could be an extremely useful mind for the WWE product? Absolutely. Do I think it's almost irrelevant because Vince is so stuck in his routine and his ideas and the monotony of the routine that he'll shoot down 90% of what Austin wants to see done? Yeah, I do. It's the same issue Paul Heyman was running into when he got sent down to developmental and was running WWECW. He had all these ideas, and all these things he wanted to do, but at the end of the day only one guy, which is now the 3 headed monster of Vince, Triple H, and Stephanie, makes the decisions.
I love Austin. Loved him picking on Vince, particularly about Macho Man, but Vince runs a dictatorship with his doofus son and idiotic daughter and he's not going to change for anyone at this stage of the game. He's completely out of touch, whether he wants to admit it or not, and he's definitely lost a step. You can't beat old age and if you're not listening to the right people, you're just going to keep doing the same stuff over-and-over again. Austin isn't going to break that cycle for Vince. Death is the only thing that's going to break that cycle at this point.

Death is the only thing that's going to break that cycle at this point. Overall, I agree with a lot of what you posted. I personally feel Austin was given the chance and he did what he needed to with this interview. He brought up things fans wanted to know and some things that maybe Vince needed to hear and to hear himself say on the playback. The idea what wrestlers are walking on eggshells, not to piss off writers and if he truly does listen to the Universe. Maybe going back watching, Vince will see maybe he isnt as in-tune with the audience than he thinks, seeing how much positive feedback this podcast is getting. On a random note, people saying Vince is wrong about his views of Sting and Lesnar, he HAS to say that. He needs to defend what they are doing currently. Maybe in a year or two if you ask him, he will possibly sing a different tune.

I expect nothing less from an icon like Austin who appreciated those who came before him in the true pro wrestling sense; however this modern landscape, mentality and era where Vince still thinks he knows what's best is worlds apart from that line of rational thought...very sad.

Interesting. What are the key points of the interview? What was that part about Macho Man?
