Bro... Please explain where you're coming from on that? I love CM Punk, don't get me wrong. In my top five all time. However, on that night, John Cena was on another level. Punk was winded and a step below Cena on that night. Magnificent effort from both guys, I just think that Cena was better. I mean to each their own I guess. I don't see that at all and I've watched that match at least 50 times. The audience was there to see Punk that night. Sure, Cena was good and did all his spots and played that role but Punk was controlling the audience and the entire pace of the match, at least to me. The only match I thought Cena was better than usual during that feud was the Raw match from January 2013. Even then, Cena has very little technical skill in the ring. He doesn't execute moves with any polish. His dropkicks are bad, his submissions are even worse, and he doesn't sell believably at all. Cena gets it done, but he doesn't make normal talent great. Cena has great matches when he's across the ring from somebody who is great, so HBK, Punk, Edge, the one time with Brock. Cena's great for that big fight feel now though. I enjoyed his match with Rock from Mania 28. Turn the volume off, probably looks like sh*t. So it ultimately comes down to what you're talking about I guess. I get that the entire machine is behind Cena and he shakes hands and kisses babies, and is the golden boy scout, but that doesn't compensate for him never actually learning how to perform. HHH is the prototype for what Cena could be in the ring and he's just not anywhere near that level. Cena isn't the MVP of anything but draw power and t-shirt sales as far as I'm concerned.

No, I totally get where you're coming from. I've seen that match about 50 times also, one of my all time favorites. I also 100% agree and stated in another post that Cena is not a good technician. Take someone like Bret Hart, who I don't think ever did a move that looked sloppy or wrong, Cena looks awkward doing some things. His dropkicks and STF stick out like a sore thumb. When they asked me to do performer, I didn't think technician. I though all around performer. Guy who can go on the mic and sell a big match, guy who can tell a story, guy who had accomplishments, guy who delivered in the ring. In hostile territory, there is nobody better than him. MITB 2011, One Night Stand 2006, SummerSlam 2013, Unforgiven 2006, WrestleMania 22, etc. He's not a technician in any way possible, but he puts on matches that I enjoy. But I was totally behind Punk that night. I remember that I had to work that night so I got home, went to sleep, avoided all spoilers and watched the entire PPV once I woke up. I was so invested and enthralled that night in seeing one of my guys beat THE GUY. I haven't been that invested since and can't recall being so for years before.
