I wanna know which Pre Real-Scan head scan was pretty good, and no masked wrestlers; because it'd be too easy since their faces are covered

The BCA Big Show Paul Wight was incredible. It came closer than Mattel's computer sculpted nWo Giant headsculpt. I Love that figure. One of my favorites of that era from Jakks.
And also, none of the early TTL's so don't even bother with those. They were all a step back from BCA in terms of the likenesses.

I didn't notice at first that you hadn't specified company. Pretty much all the Galoob WCW figures were spot on. Especially Arn Anderson, Sid, Ron Simmons, and Flair.

There were no pre-realscan headscans.

As the Sweaterrrman pointed out, because they are before real scan these are actually head sculpts not scans. I guess this kind of fits in the masked category, but the Hasbro Macho Man from series 1 always had one of the best likenesses of any figure in that era, though the head sculpt of Hulk Hogan in Hasbro form wasn't bad either. None of the pre-real scan TTL's do it for me - they're all too cartoony and as poindizzle said they were a step back from BCA sculpts.

have to agree, early TTL was just crap...the only good at best. was Gangrel, other then that...rest was garbage, before real-scan. BCA's was & is kings. majority of those figures look as close as possible likeness to the wrestler.

I never understood how Jakks sculptors got their jobs. Pre-realscan TTL headsculpts were absolute garbage. And BCAs weren't much better, if at all. And that's not comparing them to realscan, that's comparing them to other toy companies pre-realscan headsculpts. For example, I started out collecting Toybiz's WCW figures before transitioning to Jakks BCA and TTL and I remember distinctly noticing that the Jakks headsculpts were of much worse quality than the Toybiz ones, despite the Jakks ones being more recently made.
Even when realscan came in and the Jakks heads became decent, most of the body sculpts were still very unrealistic, both in terms of proportions and in terms of muscle detailing. R3 (with body scanning) was a good idea when it came along, but very poorly realized. Most people would say inappropriate part reuse was a big part of the problem, and it was, but for me the bigger issue was that the body poses (scans) used in creating the R3 bodies were often, obviously, not neutral/straight enough. R3 Steve Austin for example, he was clearly body-scanned while curling his back and raising his arms above his head. Leading to his R3 torso looking distinctly bent back and odd. And the articulation cuts of R3 figures were often awkward and very stiff. Even some of the better R3 figures like Big Show, the sculpt was not very symmetrical and the knees would not bend straight
Anyway, getting back to heads, I also wanted to point out that even after realscan came along, most people forget that we did occassionally still get to see Jakks's sculptors headsculpts without the aid of realscan. Obviously some Classic superstars couldn't be scanned, but I'm not talking about those, I'm talking current (at the time) stars. If I remember correctly I recall someone from Jakks saying that if they for whatever reason didn't have the time or opportunity to scan a superstar, occassionally they would just sculpt the head. It didn't happen very often, but I believe the Big Daddy V head was an example of this happening, and explains why the likeness is so ludicrously poor. I think there were a few other examples too but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Thankfully realscan allowed Jakks figures for the most part to have decent likenesses. Although sadly the "balloon head" problem (heads being too big for the body) is something that Jakks sculptors or whoever deals with the scan data output apparently still aren't able to notice. Or more likely, just don't care.

Hasbro Lex Luger was really good for its time. The BCA series 1 Razor Ramon is still, to me, the best his head has looked through the years. Waiting on the DM Razor for a side-by-side comparison. Last one I'd say would be the BCA Cactus Jack. That was a great-looking figure top to bottom.

Al'S BCA head was OK. Best pre-real scan TTL headsculpt was probably Hardcore Holly or Gangrel. I liked the head sculpt of BCA Debra. It don't know who it looked like, it wasn't Debra, but it was a nice sculpt.

Was that Chris Jericho TTL with the red barbed wire tights and Raw is Jericho shirt pre real scan? If so then I'm quite partial to that one. Other than that, Gangrels wasn't bad.

The WCW Galoob head sculpts were fantastic, as were some of the Remco AWA sculpts, namely the Midnihht Rockers and Road Warriors.
