Does anyone ever recall Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed) ever wearing the attire they had on their Galoob WCW figures? What we got (image taken from eBay): What I always thought they wore:

Far too long ago for me to recall. But since I've seen the figures far more often, I associate them that way - LOL

I always wondered that too. I know they had a couple street fights (dont know if they wore these though)It was still an odd choice instead of the actual wrestling gear they wore 99.99999% of the time. The galoobs and just toy bendies had the street gear so someone must have been sent ref pics of them in the street gear.

It was odd that Galoob (US version) and Justoys used the exact same line up of figures.

I always thought it was weird too. It looks like what they would probably wear to the gym or something. Ha

Always wondered that, and also, how they got away with Butch wearing Nikes.

I have 2 Butches - one with and one without nike swoosh, is this common?

They wore those during interviews with Teddy Long hyping up the matches with the Horsemen.
Why Galoob felt to make that their figure attire is really weird, and I always thought that.

I have the us and uk versions of ron simmons and the butch reed with the swoosh. I have been tempted to try and get a set cheap on ebay and customise them into the proper ring attire (maybe with masks) Still need to get my hands on the butch without swoosh though.

I've got a whole bunch of original reference pictures that WCW took especially for Galoob. Ron Simmons & Butch Reed are wearing the exact same outfits as the figures. I put the question out there about if they ever wore those outfits because it seemed such a weird thing to do. I just don't know why WCW approved them....

master_fuji, you answered your own question. The sculptor(s) used those reference photos instead of actual footage or knowledge to create the sculpts. I've also seen the reference pics, they explain why Barry has his kneepads down, and Z-Man was missing his kneepads, both of which always bothered me (as well as the weird Doom outfits)

Missing knee pads etc can be an oversight but to get the attire completely wrong just seems strange. As someone else said, they used the same info for the Bend-ems line, too. They also missed knee pads on Scott Steiner as he wasn't wearing them at the photo shoot. I've got a reference photo for Ricky Morten and he was wearing jean shorts and socks, yet they managed to add his ring attire to the prototype....

Morton was done at a later time, with PN news, diamond stud, etc. so who knows what reference photos were used at that time. But we've seen the pics that match outfit for outfit, missing knee pads, weird placed knee pads, etc. with the first series figures, so that should clear that up. As far a definitive "did DOOM wrestle in this those outfits ever?" I can tell you- no.
