Am I the only one who likes Conor, but really doesn't understand the "ranking" system that UFC has in place.
Or if it's even relevant.
Aldo vs McGregor will be a big fight, but I don't see how this fight against Siver some how "raises the profile" of McGregor more than the previous fight.
I like Siver, and have for quite some time. But he was ranked lower than McGregor's previous challenger, and is about a decade or more older than him. Not to mention size and reach, two things that the last person to really dominate Siver (Cub Swanson) used.
So it was a fight that McGregor was supposed to win, and did. How does that move him up in the ranks? How does he leap over the other 4 fighters that are ranked in front of him, by beating someone who is ranked 5 spots below him as well as being someone he was suppose to beat?
If Siver had won, there's a case for him to move up. Beating a guy ranked 5 spots above you in a Main Event that you weren't suppose to win. But I'm not sure about McGregor.

^ Everything you said is so dead-on, it's not even funny. All of those are legit questions, no doubt. I have no idea why SO many people are buying into all this hype surrounding Conor McGregor. I really don't.
He still hasn't proven to me that he's THE guy to dethrone Jose Aldo, not even close. He hasn't been tested yet because UFC is protecting him from other fighters because they know exactly what WILL happen to their golden-boy if they pair him up with the likes of Chad Mendes or Frankie Edgar. He will lose, plain and simple.
But, instead of Conor going through either guy to prove he's worthy of a shot, he gets to leap ahead of them and go straight to the king of the Featherweight division, Jose Aldo.
He has NOT proven to me that he's worthy of a shot at Aldo, just because he still has NOT defeated a top 2 or 3 guy. If he would've beat Chad Mendes or Frankie Edgar like the way he just beat Dennis Siver, then I wouldn't be saying a damn thing. He will have proven to me he deserves a shot at Aldo, but he hasn't.
He's beat lesser competition and UFC is literally brainwashing everyone into buying into all this hype, but I'm not buying into it for a second.
Has Conor McGregor been impressive thus far?? Sure he has, I won't ever deny that. But look at the competition he's faced. These are almost "gimmie fights" for him where he's the odds on favorite to win and does win.
The Jose Aldo fight however, he will be the underdog and rightfully so.
And you are wondering how beating Dennis Siver moves McGregor up in the ranks?? By all accounts, it really shouldn't, but I guess UFC is ignoring their ranking system just because Aldo has already defeated the other top 4 ranked fighters, Chad Mendes, Ricardo Lamas, Frankie Edgar, and Cub Swanson.
Conor is ranked #5, so even with a dominant victory over Dennis Siver, it should NOT let him get ahead of Frankie Edgar, but seeing as Aldo already defeated Frankie and not Conor, it makes sense for Conor to get that shot because he's the only guy in the top 5 that Aldo hasn't beat yet. But, if you were going by the rankings, Frankie Edgar is next in line because prior to the Swanson fight, he was ranked #3 and Swanson #2 and I believe Mendes is still #1, even after losing to Aldo for a 2nd time.
Frankie Edgar clearly deserves the next shot at Jose Aldo, not Conor McGregor.
And I don't have the least single shred of a doubt that Aldo will whoop McGregor. Jose Aldo looked SCARY in the 2nd Mendes fight. He looked the best he's ever been and man, I really wish Conor McGregor all the luck in the world because he's going to need it.
I want him to be tested and boy oh boy, will he ever be tested against Jose Aldo. I don't think that fight will be close at all. I could see Aldo finishing the fight with leg kicks, as a matter of fact. Aldo's leg-kicks are DEADLY and Conor has never felt anything like that before.
It will be a HUGE fight, but after Jose Aldo straight-up embarrasses Conor McGregor, Dana White and the Fertitta brothers will be sitting there with a stupid look on their faces, and all of them asking "why did we invest all this time, money and hype into this guy?? He just got whooped"

The FW division is littered with Lay N Pray wrestlers like Darren Elkins, Clay Guida and Nik Lentz and it is $u$pect that Conor McGregor never fought any of those guys while Chad Mendes had to go through all 3 just to get another shot at Jose Aldo.
