For some reason, I was just thinking about the Rock's return matches and I almost forgot about his ACTUAL return match at Survivor Series 2012. Then I realized, shit, R-Truth main evented Survivor Series with the Rock and now he's one of the top jobbers in the WWE.
I know we have a "transition wrestlers thread" but this is a bit different.
What other wrestlers have had such terrible flexes in their careers? Where they were once pushed as main eventers and fell to complete worthlessness? Jack Swagger is another name that comes to mind considering he was a world champion at one point but even Swagger didn't main event any PPV's. Kofi doesn't count either because his only "main event" matches were against Randy Orton and they had no traction.

Miz fell down the card moreso than others since he main evented WrestleMania. Main eventing Survivor Series with R-Truth was a drop down for him. I like what he's doing, don't get me wrong, but his stock fell heavily.

My thing with the Miz is that even though he fell heavily since going over Cena in a WM main event, the WWE almost always made sure to protect him and not let him fall all the way. Ever since he lost the WWE title they've always made sure he's holding some kind of championship. The match with a returning Rock was still a HUGE deal and aside from ending Taker's streak, you can't really go any higher than Cena at mania.

I think The Miz is probably the most obvious example. I know he is a very divisive topic around here (and TBH, there are probably more people on the side of "He's a terrible, worthless wrestler" than there are on the side I'm on, and I understand why some people think that way) but I think Miz could and should be one of the top 4 or 5 guys in the company right now. He gets great reactions, and I feel like it's worth noting that while Sandow is doing great work as Mizdow, Miz is such a vital cog in that gimmick. If Miz didn't play it as straight as he does, the whole thing wouldn't work.
And more than anybody else in the company, except maybe Cena (though he shows up to everything wearing his wrestling gear, and I think that's kind of embarrassing) away from the ring and away from WWE TV shows, Miz just looks and acts like a superstar. And I don't mean WWE's version of it that they use just to avoid calling them wrestlers, I mean he is just so smooth and polished when making outside appearances whether it's with TMZ, talk shows, or on local news when promoting WWE. I think there's tons of untapped potential in making The Miz one of the standout faces of the company. Maybe he won't ever be WWE champion again, and I'm not heartbroken over that or anything, but I feel like he should be in more actual angles that give him exposure and allow him the opportunities to be the great wrestling ambassador that he is.

He won the first ever DSW Championship and hugged me at ringside and I wanted to shove him off lol But you know what? He proved me wrong. He CAN wrestle and he CAN talk. Unfortunately he was put in some tough spots booking wise and eventually reached a point where he became stale and didn't really change much. He's settled nicely into his current role though. Still, I think he could be doing more.

I was always on the side of how good Miz is at what he does. He still draws more heat than most of the top heels in the company, can be an ambassador for the company, has crossover mainstream appeal and can work a solid match. I think he should be a focal point of the company except as a face because he was horribly miscast there.

I liked the idea of him as a face, because who is easier to identify with than someone who we know wanted to be a wrestler growing up and that is now living his dream? But in the ring it just didn't really work. Glad he's back in his element doing kind of a lite version of Hollywood Rock.

Miz and R-Truth were both SLAUGHTERED wholesale by the Superjohnny smiling Cena machine. the build to that WM was almost as bad to Miz as the build to WM18 was on Jericho. Miz eliminated Cena from the 2011 RR unfairly......Cena comes out and has a giggle with him the next night. If Cena doesn't care why the f*ck should we.
and Cena was hammering R-truth and Miz weekly on his own on the run up to SSeries 2011.....why did he even need the Rock?

Definitely The Miz.
I remember before Wrestlemania 28, he came out and said something about not wanting to be like King Kong Bundy, who was the main event at Wrestlemania 2 and then ended up being in a gimmick match with little people at Wrestlemania III. So Miz ended up being on Team Johnny that year in that big match.
Fast forward to Wrestlemania 29, Miz isn't even on the PPV, but instead wrestling on the pre show against Wade Barrett for the IC Title.

Swagger Miz Sheamus
All victims of "let's put the title on him to get him over" instead of the more logical philosophy of "he's over so let's put the title on him".

That's the part that sucks the most. The downfall for him was when they turned him face. Because he stopped being the cocky Miz; which would have worked at a face if they had him fight heels.

Gonna have to partially disagree with Miz, he was doing really good heeling it up with Riley and the US title, he got the belt and got more over.

I'd say Miz as well. From beating Cena in the main event of WrestleMania (albeit essentially being nothing more than a third wheel in Cena-Rock) to not even getting on B-PPVs and taking months off at a time without anybody noticing. Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Del Rio, Sheamus and several other guys like that have flirted with the top, winning world titles and/or main eventing PPVs, and then lost momentum like crazy. Swagger went from losing comedy matches to Santino to winning the world title, then back again. Swagger Miz Sheamus All victims of "let's put the title on him to get him over" instead of the more logical philosophy of "he's over so let's put the title on him". For Swagger and Sheamus, true, but Miz? False. He was over as hell before he won the title. He was genuinely awesome for a good year or two.

I'm not saying Miz didn't have potential, wasn't over as a heel or that he couldn't be champion someday but I don't feel he was quite WWE Champion material when he cashed in the briefcase and won the thing.

Miz coulda been a believable WHC. But headlining Wrestlemania against the most over guy in the company was ridiculous. I'd compare it to having Hogan headline Wrestlemania with Honky Tonk Man.

It would have been if he had been given some traction or even appeared to have a SLIGHT chance against Superjohn. NEITHER occurred in any way shape or form. Just like Jericho in 2002 he was the 3rd wheel in the real feud- Cena vs Rock......he was totally screwed over.

I've said it before - Miz was booked AWESOMELY up until his WWE Championship win. hell, even losing the US Championship to Daniel Bryan couldn't slow him down! once he got that Title, though? all downhill. - can't beat Orton in a rematch at the Rumble without help. - can't beat retired JERRY FREAKING SOCIAL SECURITY LAWLER without help from MICHAEL COLE? !!!! - is all but forgotten in the WM 27 leadup behind the brewing feud between Rock and Cena. - can't beat Cena at WM 27 without help from The Rock. - is basically forgotten the next night on Raw as Rock and Cena cement their place in the main event for next year's Mania. - drops the WWE Championship to Cena at the next PPV. - loses match and feud to Alex Riley, his lackey and cornerman, on the next PPV.

Christ, I remember that PPV. It was the only WWE event I watched between 2007 and 2013, just to see The Rock.
