This was one of the socially acceptable terms used way back when. It was never meant to be offensive and the meaning of it is not offensive. In fact the World Health Organization still uses the term. However like many other things, it gets misused and abused. It is not an offensive term but can be used as such just as Jew, Gay, Black Person, etc. For example, I do not see anything offensive if I say "My cousin is mentally intellectually- disabled" but it is offensive if I say "My cousin is a stupid intellectually- disabled person". So it's all in context. Also please keep this thread decent or lockarrony. Dude, you just went full intellectually- disabled person xD In appliance to your initial thoughts, how does the context capture this particular statement? I'm not attempting to pull any strings. I'm just curious.

Jesus mother ing Christ this thread is intellectually- disabled and gay. They're just words and Words are Wind. Get over it. Words have a tendency to influence thoughts and actions. Which is I assume why, if I'm not mixing you up with someone else, you have a problem with the words in the Bible/Qur'an/Torah. Words can do an awful lot of harm, obviously this case isn't exactly severe, but a policy of letting everyone say whatever the they like isn't really healthy either and I don't see how an open discussion of what is and isn't okay to post on this forum can do any harm.

I got no problem with what your addressing but this is the problem with America today. Everybody is soooooo nit picky and offended by things that people say and words used Example: gay gay homosexual intellectually- disabled person intellectually- disabled homo Then god forbid something religious is said wrong on tv or something that offends another country. I miss the good ole days I don't see how this is comparable to someone saying something nationalistically or religiously insensitive. I just don't hear people sling around words as casually as I do people this term. Speaking from my experience, people aren't throwing 'Jews Jews Jews' or 'Guidos' about left and right. And if they do, they at least are using it in a proper context where they know they're going to catch the ire of certain people. Most times people use the word I'm addressing don't even use it correctly, and nobody bats an eye. i hear all sorts of religious or nationally themed words slung around as insults actually...i'm not condoning it, nor am i ok with the r word...but it is quite common people drop 'hard j's' quite often in reference to being cheap, or trying to haggle when i curse (while alone at home), i'll often refer to several members of the christian religion in place of a four letter word here or there, people that heard me would take great offense to it the r word & calling people 'gay' IS very insensitive, I agree...but just about everything said is insensitive -- road dogg on raw said 'cotton pickin'' - I used to say it not realizing it's meaning & immediately stopped - it's pretty terrible we don't know what we're saying 'master bedroom' is technically even from a time where there was a master & slave...pretty darn insensitive - many times people don't realize how much so

It's a in word. People can say whatever they want. Depending on the way they use it, it might make them a jerk, sure. But we're still allowed to say whatever we want. No not really, we have our own set of rules here. And if someone uses any word offensively they'll be dealt with. I'm talking about this country, not this message board. We fought for the ability to say whatever we want and now we can.

But why would you want to use it? "I know this word could offend people but I'm going to be an bunghole and continue using it." I didn't say I wanted to use it. I'm using the proverbial you. "You" is anyone. I hate censorship with a passion. People should be allowed to be. When people go on social media drop a slur, if anything, its just a clue. A clue for the rest of us to go "okay, bye bye. You're not the company I'd like to keep."

So it's all in context. Look at this very old commercial which was meant to bring awareness and support for the "mentally challenged" which is a term now considered to be offensive by some and is now called "Intellectually disabled". Soon that will be offensive to some and changed yet again. It never ends. Also please keep this thread decent or lockarrony. I dont understand how a forum directed and aimed towards children that has literally every curse word censored still allows for the usage of the Lords name in vain. A member can have his words censored to "chocolateshark" but still can use G.D. Which would you think would get a young adult in more trouble in school or @ home?

Or have GIF'S of womens butts jiggling and such. Its a forum...............for wrestling toys yet people are so overly sensitive these days its amazing. Yet when you talk religion in modern day America its a NO-NO yet talk inappropriately about a persons sexual orientation or there ethnicity and WHAMOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But really this forum for toys isn't the place to bring up this kinda stuff.

Just because you revere "The Lord" doesn't mean everyone else has to. We all know your opinion on religion. You whine about it quite frequently. No need to turn this into another one of your crying fests about it.

It must be shouted down (well as much as you can in a text based setting). Tell people why using the word is wrong. Why it's harmful. How they are being harmful not how 'the PC police' are harming things. Anyone using the PC excuse just wishes they could get away with saying terrible things. They want to be in a time when those they would offend would not have the voice to shout them down.

No you can't, there's plenty of exceptions. I literally can't think of any single word that is not allowed in this country. You're not allowed to do the following. Scream "fire" in a public theater. Say you're going to kill the president.

There are no words that are banned to my knowledge, but that doesn't mean you can say 'whatever you want', I don't know the American legal system like the back of my hand but I assume you have laws regarding slander, inciting violence, threatening people, and so on that mean you can't say 'whatever you want' and rightly so.

I literally can't think of any single word that is not allowed in this country. You're not allowed to do the following. Scream "fire" in a public theater. Say you're going to kill the president. Look up where the fire in a public theater thing came from and you'll see what a disgrace that decision was. It was from a couple of Yiddish guys publishing pamphlets in Yiddish, that the US should stay out of WWI, and the Supreme Court ruled against them. That is exactly what freedom of speech and press is for in the US, and that phrase is a phrase that insists you shouldn't dissent during war time. It's mind numbingly disgraceful that was allowed to stand and became a slogan.
