sorry if weird question but i want to know if there are people who checkout preorders before they see the actual fig or even the proto? i know i will preorder first time in the line guys before i see them but i cant take that risk with the other guys. i personally cant wait to see what if ryback reigns and wyatt are going to get something new or be repaints in basic 49 so i cant pull the triger just yet before i see em, but i have a little worry they will be gone in a minute and i will miss them. so the question is do you preorder figures before you know how they look like? someone placed an order on that set?
by the way, how much is too much for a just arrived at rsc first time in the line basic?

Nope. Elite 16 Rock ensured that wouldn't happen. And actually, Elite 28 Daniel Bryan had a similar effect. Elite 16 Rock with his same old peanut-headed scan and a drawn on goatee pissed a lot of people off. Mattel doesn't have a ton of awful figures or anything, but when they do, they suck.
I'm patient, I can wait for backorder or retail where I'll know if I really want something.

I only do that when there is an option to cancel later. But generally speaking, no. I like to know exactly what it is I'm buying.

The only time I've ever done that was with Paige's first figure!

Depends. Wrestling Figure just certain wrestlers I always have and will order whether there's a pic or not. (Piper, Bret, Triple H, Sting, Steiners, Dynamite Kid, Flair, Muraco and Orndorff)
DC comics figures = quite often (especially Batman related or Half Jordan)

Most of my figs I blind pre order. Nine times out of 10 I'm happy. The only real disappointment that springs to mind was the disastrous goateed Rock figure. Man I sold that one on the Bay almost immediately and barely got 50% of my money back. But I was later redeemed when I preordered the Rock with the new scan and new WWE title. When it first went up the preorder was $19.99, and once we found out what accessory it came with the price shot WAY up. So it goes both ways.

Only the Divas that are getting their first figure in the line. I could be a little disappointed in the final production version of the figure when I see it, but not to the point where I'll regret buying it. I have a lot of faith in the MDT. Even the Diva figures that I consider to be the least attractive are still perfectly acceptable.
Another big factor here is that the odds of us getting another Emma, Summer Rae, Stephanie, etc. anytime soon are probably slim and none. On the other hand, even though Ambrose is my favorite WWE superstar, I won't pre-order any of his figures sight unseen. There are several Ambrose figures out there already, and there will be several more. Depending on the overall figure in general and the scan in particular, I may want to just stick with what I have and wait for the next one. Unfortunately, we don't have that luxury with most of the Divas.
As far as how much is too much for a just arrived at RSC, first in line basic, that's a question that only you can answer. If it's only worth $7.77 to you than anything over $7.77 is too much. If it's worth $100.00 to you, then anything over $100.00 is too much.

Not often no. I blind preordered wm31 undertaker elite based only off the proto pic from ringside fest. I was thinking it would look a little better when released (tie, facial hair, hat). They fixed Razor and wm31 kanes mask, but undertaker is still unfinished imo

Only for first time in the line. I don't care what the figure looks like as I collect one of every character. So, going to buy it anyways.

I rarely pre order usually due to price but when I do pre order it's almost always the divas due to them being hard to find. I don't need to see pictures to order them sense I buy them all and they are always different. I can't wait to see Emma pics. ( I have get pre ordered )

First time in the line stuff, some times. Like the first Rollins and Reigns pack I believe I pre-ordered blind. Same goes for the Trent Barreta pack with Mark Henry. I honestly can't remember what I've seen pictures of first at this point. Just as an example, Sami Zayn would be a blind pre-order even if we hadn't seen the digital scan. Same will go for Balor, Owens, Itami if/when they get figures. There are various Flashbacks that just by name would create the same reaction from me, Raven, Angle, Scott Hall.
The problem with blind pre orders is expecting an attire, and then getting something else. Like an updated Rollins is an instant buy for me, but is Mattel going to give us his first pants look or are they going to skip over to the SR belt logo look? So it's that kind of deal that mostly prevents me from prematurely pulling the trigger. It makes it so much easier to wait when it's a guy who has another figure or multiple figures out already. It's much harder when it feels like we may only get one shot at a guy. This most recent HBK Battle Pack situation is the perfect example of how blindly pre ordering can go wrong.

I used to, till Jakks screwed me too many times. They would show a proto with tons of detail, I'd order it, and I'd get a figure with the wrong torso, lack of details, and twice as tall as they should have been. So I stopped.
But with Mattel not releasing any pics till days before they come in stock, I started to again. I trust Mattel far more than I did Jakks.

I do this pretty often. Recently I did this with the HBK/Taker BP and Basic 49 Bret.

Nope. I've had too many poor experiences with RSC pre-orders in general.

I did quite a bit when I got back into collecting last year just because I was so eager to get my collection going and wasn't sure how fast these Mattels went at retail. But now after being fully back in the game I have learned to be patient to see protos before ordering. My original thoughts was also that I was going to preorder all HBK's regardless. Happy I didn't after seeing BP33.
