WrestleMania X-8 : after a year s the undiputed Champion of Pro Wrestling, the WWF was in a bit of a weird place in 2002. they had combined the WWF and WCW Championships into the first "Unified WWF World Championship"... they also brought a ton of ex-WCW and ECW wrestlers into the fold. they were also dealing with falling ratings...but vince had a plan. he brought in the original nWo of Scott Hall,Kevin Nash, and Hollywood Hogan in the belief this would help kickstart interest again. we also had the triumphant return of Triple H, after spending over 2/3 of 2001 on the injury shelf. and we were being given what was a true dream match - The Rock vs Hogan - at WrestleMania X8. the WWF was definitely trying to turn the tide of a sudden disinterest in the product, and give us an exciting start to 2002. and Mania X8 was a pretty good show.we had the Mania debuts of RVD, Booker T, Stacy Keibler, Chuck Palumbo, Maven, DDP, and Jazz. the undercard was well stacked, with better than expected matches between Kurt Angle and Kane,The Undertaker and Ric Flair, and DDP and Christian. the Hardcore title match degenerated into fun lunacy, and it was nice seeing RVD win a major WWF title for the first time (I don't include th Hardcore title as a "major" Title)....on the other hand, we had Steve Austin in a mid-card match for the first time since 1996 against Scott Hall taking worse Stunner's than Vince McMahon. and the main event saw the 1st Undisputed Champ,Chris Jericho, play second fiddle to the ongoing feud between Stephanie McMahon and Triple H in a match that was just average....however,this card did have Hogan - Rock in a match that, technically, was a little better than average, but which the crowd elevated to near legendary status.and i rather enjoyed the 3-way match for the Women's Championship. I overall enjoy this Mania...it remains one of my favorites outside of the Main Event...and,on a history making note, it was the last "WWF" WrestleMania ever. The Card: WWF Intercontinental Champion William Regal vs Rob Van Dam WWF European Champion Diamond Dallas Page vs Christian WWF Hardcore Champion Maven vs Goldust Kurt Angle vs Kane The Undertaker vs "Nature Boy" Ric Flair Edge vs Booker T "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs Scott Hall, w/ Kevin Nash WWF Tag Team Champions Billy and Chuck vs APA vs The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudley Boyz, w/ Stacey Keibler The Rock vs "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan WWF Women's Champion Jazz vs Trish Stratus vs Lita WWF Undisputed World Champion Chris Jericho, w/ Stephanie McMahon vs Triple H

WrestleMania XIX : while 2003 may have continued the downward slide in ratings that started nearly 2 years earlier, creatively the WWE was rolling along nicely! we had the Brand Extension, giving younger, unestablished talent an opportunity to shine. it also created 2 World Championship's, and it allowed one show to continue with Attitude Era-style programming, while the other focused more on wrestling-centric storylines.... all these elements gelled into WrestleMania XIX. I admit,at first I didn't enjoy it as much as previous Mania's...but upon subsuquent rewatches,I came to realize just how great this event was! it boasted FOUR "Main Events", and none of them really disappointed. we got to see a match over 20 years in the making, the final match of Steve Austin's career -and the concluding chapter in his years-long war with The Rock, and we got to see a wrestling clinic between Angle and Lesnar, and the scary sight of Brock almost paralyzing himself with an epic botch for all time. only the Booker T vs Triple H main event disappointed me.and Hogan - Vince gave us a bloody good show, and a satisfying ending. the undercard was pretty good as well, though we got another crappy match for Undertaker continuing The Streak...at least the live performance for his entrance was good! the Women's Championship match was pretty good for the limited time they had, and we got one of THE best Mania matches of all time,as Shawn Michaels - in his first Mania match in 5 years - took on Chris Jericho in a serious contender for match of the night. the only uselss part was the Mille Lite Catfight "match", which was really nothing more than an excuse to show off some women in underwear, and really served no purpose. this is one of my top 10 Mania's, and it's generally loved by most people I talk to. we were past the Attitude Era, but in some ways the "Ruthless Aggression" Era was maybe even better! and this Mania showed how great it could be! The Card: WWE Cruiserweight Champion Matt Hardy V.1 , w/ Shannon Moore vs Rey Mysterio The Undertaker vs Big Show and A-Train WWE Women's Champion Victoria, w/ Steven Richards vs Jazz vs Trish Stratus WWE Tag Team Champions Team Angel vs Los Guerreros vs Chris Benoit and Rhyno Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho Stacey Keibler vs Torrie Wilson vs Tanya Ballinger vs Kitana Baker - Fatal Four way Miller Lite Catfight "Match" - "Special Referee" Johnathan Coachman World Heavyweight Champion Triple H, w/ Ric Flair vs Booker T Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon - Street Fight "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs The Rock WWE Champion Kurt angle vs Brock Lesnar

WrestleMania XX : Where It All Begins Again. hard to believe this was 11 years ago already...for the 20th edition of WrestleMania, they returned to the place where it all began - Madison Square Garden. while being a smaller venue,it gave it a hell of an atmosphere, and the stage setup still remains my favorite of any Mania to this day... this was an interesting Mania. rather than celebrating 20 years of the Grandaddy of them all with a nostalgic theme, it focused almost exclusively on the current stars and feuds.it's also one of the longest Mania's in history, clocking in at around 4 and a half hours, but had a welcome (to me,anyway) return to more than 10 matches on the card...12,to be exact. overall,I enjoyed this event. we got to see the beginning of the rise of John Cena, a great match between Jericho and Christian, Randy Orton cementing his stardom, the final match of the Rock and Sock Connection, a cracker of a Cruiserweight Open, a rare Women's Hair match,a better than expected encounter between Eddie Guerrero and Kurt angle, the long-anticipated return of the Undertaker as the Dead Man, and finally what I consider one of the best matches in WrestleMania history with the 3-way Main Event that saw Chris Benoit finally break through to the upper tier. there were some duds, though, too. both Tag team Title matches weren't that great, the Playboy Evening Gown Match again only served to show us women in underwear, and an absolutely HORRIBLE match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar that saw special referee Stone Cold get the only cheers,as both competitors were leaving right after this match. and the actula Undertaker vs Kane match was only passable. for the time frame, WWE put on the best Mania that it could, and for the most part I was pleased. though it's haunting now to see the end of the show, with Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, now both World Champions, hugging and crying in the ring together, each holding their respective Belt... it makes me shudder just thinking about it... The Card: WWE United States Champion The Big Show vs John Cena World Tag Team Champions Booker T and Rob Van Dam vs The Dudley Boyz vs La Resistance vs Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade Chris Jericho vs Christian Evolution vs the rock and Sock Connection Sable and Torrie Wilson vs Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie - Playboy Evening Gown Match Cruiserweight Open - Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero,w/ Chavo Guerrero Sr. vs Rey Mysterio,Jamie Noble,Shannon Moore,Ultimo Dragon,Kidman,Funaki,Nunzio,Tajiri, and Akio Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar - Special Referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin WWE Tag Team Champions Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty vs The Basham brothers vs World's Greatest Tag Team vs APA WWE Women's Champion Victoria vs Molly Holly - Title vs Hair Match WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle The Undertaker, w/ Paul Bearer vs Kane World Heavyweight Champion Triple H vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit

The Rockers were starting to get a little exposure here, had they stayed together a little longer, they probably would have had a few title reigns. I totally never put 2 and 2 together that Haku and Barbarian teamed in both WWF and WCW. That cross body was absolutely stunning, love the opening. ————————————————— How the hell did Dino Bravo keep getting WM matches. We’re into the best years of WM now and Dino Bravo is still in them. Jeez. At least he was carried to a half way decent match and Kerry won. ————————————————— I’ve always dug Warlord, and obviously Davey Boy. It’s very easy to forget just how popular and talented Davey was. This was a great match, the crowd was really into it. I think the Warlord is way under rated (and as strong as hell). ————————————————— I’ve never liked the Nasty Boys but this really is a great match. The Harts looked great, too bad they split up after this (in some ways at least), we never got a good LOD/Harts match. It also sucks that this is Jim’s last WM appearance . He had a habit of missing Wrestlemania following 7. 8,10,11,12,13 and 14, he missed them all by a matter of weeks here and there. ————————————————— The blind fold match is kind of dumb, but I really appreciate the attempt at trying something different. I laughed at how f’ed up Jakes eye was and by WM it’s normal. I realise that they can obviously see through the hoods, but in terms of kayfabe this is the most dangerous match ever lol. ————————————————— Youngdertaker vs. Mr Murderer himself. Kinda a crap start to an epic Wrestlemania journey. ————————————————— Man Warrior looks PISSED OFF with Hebner when he stands on and breaks his nice jacket. And he looked annoyed with the fans grabbing him when he walked to the ring. One of the best matches of all time. ————————————————— Demolition jobbing is a crime against humanity. ————————————————— Bossman was freaking over as hell here, and he could move so well. I enjoyed this match a lot more than I remember enjoying it in the past. ————————————————— Earthquake vs. Greg wasn’t exactly enthralling but it wasn’t bad. ————————————————— We shoulda got Demolition vs. LOD at this Wrestlemania. Having 2 separate squash matches between them was dumb. ————————————————— DiBiase lost two PPV appearances in a row… To Virgil lol. ————————————————— Tito continues the most unimpressive streak in Wrestlemania history! The fact that The Mountie doesn’t have his classic theme here is the biggest miscarriage of justice. ————————————————— I hate Slaughter’s theme so much. This match has to rank up there with the worst main events ever.

WrestleMania 21 Goes Hollywood: 2005 I felt was an interesting year for WWE. we were still in the beginning part of the "Cena Era", Evolution had imploded leading to the rise of Batista, Orton had a disasterous Face run that nearly destroyed his career,Smackdown was the superior Brand, and the WWE seemed to be settling into it's next phase. Mania 21 came into this new direction for the WWE, and I personally feel it was a pretty good Mania! we had the ascension of Batista and a not-yet stale Cena to the top of the company, a rare heel-turn for Trish Stratus, a great encounter between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, a HELL of a match between HBK and Kurt Angle, the most credible threat to the Streak,a surprise appearance by the Hulkster, and out introduction to the Money in the Bank match. that's not to say this event didn't have issues. the Big Show - Akebono match served no purpose and only devalued Show, the Women's Match was nothing to write home about, some of the Triple H - Batista Main Event was slow, and we got out first indication of what was to come when we saw "Super-Cena" appear after getting beat for most of the match. but overall,I enjoyed it. HBK-Angle and the MITB match more than make it a worthwhile card, the Orton's vs Taker angle leading up to and during the match was priceless, and the Hollywood theme was a novel and fun approach, and we saw the elevation of Edge to the Main Event before our eyes. it would, sadly, also be Eddie Guerrero's last WrestleMania appearance. The Card: WWE Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio vs WWE Tag Team Champion Eddie Guerrero Edge vs Chris Jericho vs Shelton Benjamin vs Kane vs Chris Benoit vs Christian - Money in the Bank Ladder Match The Undertaker vs Randy Orton, w/ "Cowboy" Bob Orton WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus vs Christy Hemme, w/ Lita Shawn Michaels vs Kurt angle The Big Show vs Akebono - Sumo Match WWE Champion JBL vs John Cena World Heavyweight Champion Triple H, w/ Ric Flair vs Batista

WrestleMania 22 : Big Time 2006 felt like a year in transition. you had remenants of the Attitude Era mixing with the newer generation of wrestling stars that were coming up. if nothing else, though, 2006 was "The Year of Cena", as he firly placed himself as the top guy in WWE, with multiple Championship reigns, multiple main event matches, and this was when he started to become the face of the company, for good or bad. I honestly don't remember a whole hell of a lot about 2006, as this was around the time when I slowly began to trnsition out of wrestling for awhile, but I will say I enjoyed this Mania quite a bit. it had an interesting atmosphere to it, and quite a few good matches. money in the Bank wasn't oversaturated yet, Foley vs Edge was simply awesome,HBK and Vince had an okay match with the most satisfying ending imaginable, it was great to see the crowd embrace Mickie James, the tiple threat match for the World title was great for the limited time they were given, and I actually like the Cena- Triple H main event more and more each time I watch it. that said, there were some stinkers too - the opening Tag Title match was pedestrian, Undertaker - Mark Henry was nothing special, Boogeyman vs Booker and Sharmell was only to try and get Boogey over more, and the Playboy Pillow fight served no purpose other than the standard T & A. overall, I'd rank this Mania somewhere in the middle of the pack. The Card: World Tag Team Champions Big Show and Kane vs Chris Masters and Carlito Rob Van Dam vs Ric Flair vs Matt Hardy vs Shelton Benjamin vs Finlay vs Bobby Lashley - Money in the Bank Ladder Match WWE United States Champion Chris Benoit vs John Bradshaw Layfield, w/ Jillian Hall Mick Foley vs Edge, w/ Lita - Hardcore Match The Boogeyman vs Booker T and Sharmell - Handicap Match WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus vs Mickie James The Undertaker vs Mark Henry - Casket Match Shawn Michaels vs Vince McMahon - No Holds Barred Match World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton vs Rey Mysterio Torrie Wilson vs Candice Michele - Playboy Pillowfight WWE Champion John Cena vs Triple H

WrestleMania 23 : All Grown Up the theme of this Mania was "All Grown Up" ,as they returned to Michigan for the 20th anniversary of WrestleMania III as a bigger company than the last time they were there. overall, though, I've found this Mania to be somewhat lackluster. the main selling point was actually an undercard match, Bobby Lashley vs Umaga, with the gimmick that depending on who lost, either Vince McMahon or Donald Trump would have their head shaved bald.the World Championship match, which was a great one between Champion Batista and the Undertaker, was actually placed in the middle of the card. I will say the main event of John Cena vs Shawn Michaels was pretty damned good, and Chris Benoit vs MVP was great! besides that, though, the rest was average at best, mediocre for the most part, especially the Women's Title match and Kane vs Great Khali. and the ECW match showed just how far the brand had fallen. this wasn't one of my favorite Mania's, and it still remains a subpar Mania with 3 good matches to me. The Card: Mr. Kennedy vs CM Punk vs Finlay vs Randy Orton vs Edge vs King Booker vs Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy - Money in the Bank Ladder Match Kane vs The Great Khali WWE United States Champion Chris Benoit vs MVP World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs The Undertaker Rob Van Dam, Tommy Freamer, Sabu, and The Sandman vs Elijah Burke, Marcus Cor Von, Matt Stryker, and Kevin Thorne w/ Ariel ECW Champion Bobby Lashley, w/ Donald Trump vs Umaga, w/ Vince McMahon and Armando Estrada - Hair vs Hair Match, Special Referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin WWE Women's Champion Melina vs Ashley WWE Champion John Cena vs Shawn Michaels

WrestleMania XXIV : Big Show;s Jobbing Again honestly, I don't remember much about the lead-up to Mania 24. this was during the time when I really kinda lost interest in the product. and it's actually only the 2nd Mania I did not order on PPV ( my first was WrestleMania VIII. I was working that day, and missed both the live show and the replay right afterwards). it's also the only mania I DON'T own on DVD / Blu Ray ( when I went to get it a couple years ago, the prices were astronomical for some reason!). that said, thanks to the WWE Network ($9.99) I was finally able to view this event. it was alright. there were some good matches, and some stinkers as well. I always love seeing taker in the main event, and after a slow start his match with Edge became really good! you also had a better than the previous year MITB match, a pretty good opening brawl between JBL and Finlay, and the emotional final match of the Nature Boy, in his finest Mania performance, and it showed why HBK is Mr. WrestleMania. on the other end, the Triple Threat match for the WHC was just okay, the ECW Title match was a joke, Umaga vs Batista was useless, and the Playboy match did it's usual job of being nothing more than a showcase for scantily dressed women. then you had Big Show vs Floyd Mayweather,Jr.... this match pissed me off. yeah, I get the idea and point behind it. yeah, I get that Mayweather had to go over. but to realistically believe a hundred-something pound short boxer can go over a 500 plus pound wrestler almost double his size is insulting to wrestling fans, even with all the interference. and you can tell the crowd hated it too, as they booed Mayweather out of there. overall, it was a "meh" Mania for me, didn't hate it, didn't love it. just one of those middle of the pack average ones. I DID love the stage setup though! they really used the open space well! The Card: 24 Man Battle Royal for an ECW Championship Match - NOT part of the PPV broadcast John Bradshaw Layfield vs Finlay, w/ Hornswoggle - Belfast Brawl CM Punk vs Shelton Benjamin vs Carlito vs MVP vs Chris Jericho vs Mr. Kennedy vs John Morrison - Money in the Bank Ladder Match Batista vs Umaga - Inter-Brand Match ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero vs Kane "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels - Career Threatening Match Maria and Ashley vs Beth Phoenix and Melina, w/ Santino Marella - Playboy BunnyMania Lumberjill Match, special MC Snoop Dogg WWE Champion Randy Orton vs John Cena vs Triple H Big Show vs Floyd Mayweather,Jr. - No Disqualification Match World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs The Undertaker
