So, been taking some time to deal with health matters, these past couple months, and am finishing up Dexter on Netflix. Three episodes left in S8, so don't ruin it for me, damn it!
All that said, it is for sure, one of the best TV shows I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I'm glad I waited until it was done to watch it all at once, because had I been left to wait a week with some of it's cliff hangers, I'd have went mad.
So I know there are ton of Dexter fans out there. Curious to know what you think the best season is? What's the worst?
I'm going with the Trinity Killer season, as being the best. I think that single season of the show was one of the better single seasons of television ever Produced. It's up there with S5 of Breaking Bad.
S2 was probably my least favorite until the end. I absolutely DESPISED Doakes.
So -- thoughts?

Season 4 and 8 were definitely my favorites. I won't spoil the ending for you but damn It was good. I personally never cared for the Doomsday killers themselves but the season itself was great with how we saw Debra figure out Dexters true identity. Never saw that coming. I actually went through all 8 seasons within a month haha and I probably would have gone crazy as well having to wait between episodes.

Normally I'll go through shows that quickly as well, but if I watch them with my dad, it takes longer. So it's been a couple months. Should be finishing it up when he gets home from the VA this afternoon/evening. I'm liking S8, but it definitely feels like it's time for it to check out. I liked the DDK storyline. At the moment, I'd probably rank it: 4,6,1,8,5,7,3,2

I think my enjoyment of S4 is greatly hindered by how terrifying Trinity truly is. I've watched Dexter through twice now and both times after watching S4 I genuinely feel ill for a few days afterwards.
As far as compelling storytelling goes, S1 was the best IMO. With S2 not quite far behind. I love how Season 2 puts you in this mindset that you actually want Dexter to be caught, rather than being something of an Avenger.
I'd rate the seasons:
1>2>4>6>3>5>7>8

He's the only one throughout the entirety of the show, I feel is actually worse than Dexter. As in more dangerous. S2 was good storytelling, as I said in my original post though, I really just couldn't stand Doakes. I do agree, about it shifting your perspective, though. That was a quality change. I always appreciated Dexter's work, though.

I always appreciated Dexter's work, though. I can see why people love the Trinity season, but my enjoyment of it is definitely hindered by the morbidness of him. He's almost too realistic, and borderline pedophilic. I was very uncomfortable watching him, in that sense they did an excellent job. I actually find it extremely difficult even seeing John Lithgow in anything now, it doesn't matter what role. I never really liked Doakes until we saw another side of the character when he was imprisoned. I love the switch of perspective so much, and that's the point for me where Doakes becomes a likeable and relatable character. What I love about Dexter is it's a show that is constantly making me question just how I'd act in these situations. I think seasons 1,2,4 and 6 were just excellent, some of the best TV ever. The thing that happens at the end of Season 4 genuinely makes you feel as if someone you know in real life has died, the only other show that made me feel like that was Angel.

Seasons 2 and 4 were my absolute favorites. But I enjoyed the first 7 seasons very much.
Season 8, however, was an absolute abomination in every way, shape, and form. Not only was it awful from start to finish (not to mention the terrible finale), but it was so bad that in some ways it ruined the greatness that preceded it. That's my opinion anyway.

I'd just also like to point out, I'm disappointed we don't have any Dexter POP Vinyls. I want a bloody Dexter figure, damn it!

4 and 7 were my very favorite seasons. I think 4 was pretty unequivocally the best of the entire series but to each their own. I don't think 2 was nearly that bad but I thought 3 was pretty bad. Other than the last 5 mins of season 8, I really didn't have a problem with it. It wasn't my favorite but it was on par with the rest of the seasons for me.
It was a phenomenal show. I don't think the ending was nearly as bad as people made it out to be either. It wasn't great by any means but I think it could have been worse. Dexter in the storm was pretty unforgivable. So that's my one caveat with the final episode really.

Season 2 was my fave followed closely by 4.
However the final episode of the final season soured me TOTALLY on the whole final series.

My faves are Seasons 2 (loved the fact that Dexter was feeling the walls close in on him as Miami Metro & FBI were searching for the BHB), 4 (Trinity was such a great adversary and provided the best season finale of the series) and 7 (I liked Deb being conflicted on what to do regarding what she learns about Dex and everything, I wasn't a fan of Hannah though...plus the season finale was pretty good). I'd rank them 2,4,7,1,3,5,6,8 IMO, Season 8 was a big FU to the fans of the show...especially that ing finale...my God.

Trinity was the best. I loved this show, but the finale just killed any kind of re-watching for me.

Aside from having season 5 a little lower on your list than I would put it, you nailed it sir. Whenever someone I know has started the show after it ended, I give them the same warning everytime (and funny enough it's the same warning I give to people starting Lost)... "This is an amazing show. Watch it up to the final season. You can finish it if you must... But I strongly recommend making up your own version of what you think happens or should happen... Because regardless of what you imagine, it'll probably be better than what they came up with."

After the final season I can't bring myself to re-watch any of it.. I've never seen writers up the legacy of an entire TV show like they did with Dexter. Absolutely god awful.

Only thing I didn't really like about Season 3 was The Skinner; I thought it was a lame ass "adversary" for Dexter to contend with. Season 5 began with such promise, but at the end it kinda felt like a letdown, I didn't care for Jordan Chase and his merry band of rapists.

The sad part is that before he was revealed to just be some weird foreign guy who was after drug money, he was pretty creepy. Skinning people? That's intense. What a waste. As far as season 5 goes, I loved Lumen. And honestly, it wasn't the villains that enticed me in season 5. Honestly they were secondary, if not tertiary to what was important to me that season. What I found really well done in season 5 was the character development. All the drama surrounding everyone was just really intriguing. The dynamic between Dexter and Lumen and all the other characters was just phenomenal. I was really sad to see Lumen go. And it always bothered me that she never cameoed later on. My only complaint about Season 5 actually was the very first episode. They handled Rita's death very oddly. I thought it was really strange that Debra like didn't cry or feel anything. She just ran in like oh Dex you okay? Cool let's go to my apartment. I mean her ing sister in law just died brutally. They spent a lot of time together. Hell the whole squad's reaction just didn't fit the severity of the situation. This was punctuated by the worst line in the history of the show. When Masuka is looking at Dexter's dead wife in a bathtub and says... "I've imagined her naked plenty of times, but never like this." Really? Dexter's wife is dead in a ing bathtub and you say that? Even for Masuka, even for a TV show, that was just poorly written. Aside from that though, season 5 was fantastic. But Season 8... Ugh. ing disgrace.

Yup....it was like they went down to the bus stop and told a couple of guys who'd never seen the show to script an episode.....then they got drunk and used it. I could hardly believe what I watched.

I guess they had to get the perverted comment/joke out of the way as quick as possible. Quinn & Liddy looking into Dexter, and later, Lumen was pretty entertaining (well to me anyways). Peter Weller plays a great butthole in the stuff he's in...I thought it was funny that as Season 5 of Dexter was wrapping up, he was also in the Season 5(?) finale of Psych as well. I still don't know how Showtime and the showrunners, producers, etc. thought that series finale was even good. Hell, the Breaking Bad finale that followed a week after that mess was what a proper series finale should be. It's mindboggling.
