Wow. Lots of Jericho hate in here and I'm not sure where it's coming from. Jericho was 100% right when he said he wouldn't return unless WWE had plans for him with the right person. That is fair. Why come back just to do nothing? I don't see any hate. Some folks just don't like him.....I havent seen anything in this thread I would define as Jericho hate Bash.....or anything that comes even close. Ok well maybe "hate" was an improper word. I was just referring to the talk about his ego and not wanting him on TV stuff. Oh well. The haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate and the players gonna play play play play play.

Jericho also said he pioneered the suit wearing cynical heel. Pretty sure the Horsemen called and they said... wait for it... WOOOO! 1997-2004 Jericho is one of the best ever imo and one of my absolute favorites. Sans the HBK feud though, and to a lesser extent the Rey and Punk feuds, I've just gradually stopped liking him since his initial return in 07, which I was actually live in attendance on Raw to see oddly enough. It's a weird situation for me. I don't think I've ever liked a guy so much and then eventually ended up not caring about him at all the way I have with Jericho. But yeah, as a diehard fan of HBK for roughly my entire life, and that SummerSlam match being one of my absolute favorite matches of all time... COM'N MAN! The new Jericho DVD is a total pass for me anyway. I think he only has two WCW matches on there and the BR exclusives are all more recent stuff, most of which is hot garbage imo. I'm still waiting for Raven vs Jericho from HH98 to end up on Blu-ray, any day now... Um, yeah, the Horsemen were suit wearing heels, but they weren't cynical heels. They were the living the living the high life, cocky heels, who could back up what they said in the ring. The only thing that was alike between the Horsemen and World Champion Chris Jericho, was when they weren't wrestling, they wore suits.

I didn't mean this to have any hate directed at Jericho; I'm actually a fan of the guy, it was moreso that quip from him, that's all.

Just wanting opinions on something wrestling-related on a wrestling-related forum...that's all.

No, you're not alone. I also made the connection when I saw it live and figured he did it as a tribute to HBK since he was such a big fan of his. Then I was insulted after watching the preview to the Jericho dvd because he assumed he was the only one who could make the reference. Have to be honest, after hearing Jericho speak more through his podcasts and in interviews, I've grown to like him less because he likes to believe he's a bigger star than he actually is.

Yeah I think some of the "hate" is people really getting to know Jericho's personality through his podcast and Twitter. I've always been a big fan of his ring work, but I don't like him very much as a person these days after hearing his podcasts and seeing his Twitter feed. I don't blame him not wanting to come back unless it is for something good though.

Never made the connection myself, but I don't see why it's a big deal.

Lol I think you need to re-read your dictionary because self absorbed and staying ahead by any means necessary is not even close to resembling the definition of cynical.

Jericho is extremely unlikeable these days. Not sure I'm going to be able to sit thorough that DVD. There is something "off" about him these days. I used to love him, but he's just too smug and cocky. I don't know what it is. He's not the only one, though. Mick Foley used to be pretty cool, now he seems desperate for attention. The Rock used to be cool, but now he just seems to be a phony. Hunter has always been an insecure egomaniac, so at least he's consistent. And HBK will always be a dick, whether he's found God or not. But we are lucky to have guys like Edge, who has always been a nice guy. (Well, maybe not to Matt Hardy, but c'mon, Lita used to be pretty sexy.)

You have to remember too, everything that these WWE superstars say in their DVD release interviews is half shoot/half WWE work. So you kind of just have to take it all with a grain of salt and try to figure out what is real and what is being told just for entertainment purposes alone. As for the Jericho DVD, I got it, because I am a fan of his, and I don't mind Chris being "Chris Jericho" in the back of the limo and talking freely about things; work or shoot. I am a fan of his, so I am gonna enjoy it no matter what. Remember those days?? Being a fan of a wrestler and just enjoying everything he does because you're a fan?? Those were simpler times. You are totally right, and I really dislike that. I wish that for the docs they could be totally be out of character. Like, we all get it, it's "fake"--thats cool, nobody cares, just be straight up in the docs and behind the scenes stuff. It's just comes across as childish and silly to stay in character or stick to scrip in stuff thats designed to be non-fiction.

A few folk involved in the business told me about Jericho's attitude back in 2007, i didn't know what to make of it at the time. But reading his stuff and listening to him on his podcast/twitter confirms the suspicions I've had.
Not to say the guy is a bad dude or anything, but if he was some guy i met at work or the pub our personalities would clash.

I took his comment to mean people might not get it "paying tribute HBK" not that they might not know HBK had done it before.
