Hey all my fellow UK WFers, I am planning on being in London from 8/27 to 8/31 and I was wondering what I should expect going in.
In terms of weather, what should I prepare for, hot or mild? Will it rain often then? Will I need a heavy coat?
What neighborhood is a good one to stay near?
What are areas I should avoid?
What are some must-sees? What about things to avoid?

You really can't predict summertime in the UK. It's always warm and humid but one day it'll be glorious sunshine and the next it'll be pissing down with rain. Bring a coat just in case.

I'm from Northern Ireland but I usually go to London at least once a year so I think should be able to answer your q's.
In terms of weather, what should I prepare for, hot or mild? Will it rain often then? Will I need a heavy coat?
I've only been in London during the summer once and it was great weather. You could get away with wearing a t shirt and shorts during the day. Obviously depends though, be prepared for rain.
What are areas I should avoid?
Anywhere in Central London is perfectly safe to my knowledge. When I've been in other European cities (Paris more than anywhere else) I've always been very cautious of pickpockets, London is a haven of civility in comparison.
What are some must-sees? What about things to avoid?
If you are into museums go to the Imperial War Museum, really impressive place. I wouldn't recommend the Churchill War Rooms or the British Museum, but that's just my opinion. Tate Modern is worth seeing if you like art. London Dungeon is fun if that's your thing. The Aquarium is not worth seeing. London Eye is just a glorified Ferris wheel, you'd learn and see far more doing an open top bus tour. Even sightseeing on foot is fun, Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace are all within walking distance of each other.
If it's your first time around London, download the citymapper app. Tells you what underground routes to take, how far away you are from your destination.
