As many of the longer-serving members at WF will know, I have been asking for a SERIOUS headscan Diamond Dallas Page figure to be made for over 10 years now, first with Jakks and now with Mattel. It has been my NUMBER 1 most wanted classics/legends figure for all this time, and I know there are also many other collectors who are dissatisfied with only ever being given smiling DDP figures. chewdeezy's post on another topic inspired me to make this topic to highlight why:
I agree but I don't think there's enough reference material for a serious head scan. All I can find are smiling DDPs...
That's why Mattel and Jakks have always got it wrong with DDP - because they just look at promo photos and don't pay enough attention to the ATTITUDE of his character and his IN-RING demeanour. I am of course referring here to the DDP character portrayed for the vast majority of his career (i.e. WCW), and not the short-lived "smiley guy" gimmick he had around 2002.
Sure there are quite a few PROMO PHOTOS of him smiling, but those who actually lived through his WCW career will remember his ATTITUDE and IN-RING demeanour were for the most part SERIOUS and INTENSE. From his rise to fame as a cocky heel in the mid-90s alongside bodyguard Max Muscle and The Diamond Doll, to his battles with Johnny B Badd and storylines with Kimberly, to his face turn to battle the NWO in early 1997, his feud with Savage, his US+World title runs, his time with the Jersey Triad, and "The Insiders" with Kevin Nash.
A headscan is not just about capturing a physical likeness, capturing the personality of the character is just as important, if not more important.
And that's why we need a SERIOUS headscan DDP - a true legend in the business, a phenominal entertainer, and always an inspiration - inside and outside the ring.
Please please make it happen MattelDesignTeam
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us get a serious headscan DDP!! He's one of my favorite wrestlers ever but I hate all his smiling headscans, I want a focused/intense DDP not a goofy smiling one!!
