OK, I am not stupid, so I know what "No DQ" means, "No Disqualification", but what exactly are the rules on this?
I ask because, watching the Sting / Triple H match last night, I found myself wondering. D-X and the nWo were allowed to come into the ring and attack the two combatants and bats and sledge hammers were allowed in the match with no problem, but when Sting had Triple H in the Scorpion Death Lock and Triple H grabbed the ropes... Sting HAD TO RELESASE the hold!
Why didn't Sting just hold onto him until he either "passed out" or "gave up"? It just seems to me like holding onto a finisher after the ref said let it go would pale in comparison to extra wrestlers and foreign objects being used. Have I been missing some intricate part of this rule all these years? Shouldn't "No Disqualification" mean "NO Disqualification"?!

That has always bugged me too, but I suppose it can be explained as the referee trying to maintain order and the wrestler can choose to either break it or not. The biggest plot hole to me is why did no one try to break up the pinfall? ??

I ripped into John Cone on twitter for ending a No DQ match in a count out. And he got all the other refs who don't mean anything to the company to try bashing me, and I was like, "Hey, don't get butt hurt because YOU don't know how to do your job."

Don't over think it. Don't be the guy who asks at Comic Con how Star-Lord got batteries in space to power his walk-man for so many years. Just enjoy the ride.

I always wondered why they made a difference between No DQ, Street Fight, Extreme Rules, No Holds Barred when there are basically the same rules with a few variations whenever they feel like doing a variation like the one you mentionned.. I guess No Holds Barred is what you are refering to with not breaking the hold while in the ropes etc.
But still, these things sometimes get on my nerves haha

Extreme Rules, Street Fight, and NO DQ matches are exactly the same. No Holds Barred is like the top 3, but with falls count anywhere.

Pretty sure it's been established that you don't need to break the hold for a rope break in nodq matches. The ref will still tell them to break, but they don't need to.

If it were no DQ, then use the hammer/bat on your opponent right from the start. Hit him in the nuts over and over with it while you're at it. Matches with no rules that start with no weapons don't make all that much sense to me.

Wrestling is all about what's convenient at the time. Thinking "that's totally dumb, because____" is fine, but don't let it ruin anything for you.

I remember there being some DQ finishes for the WWECW title.

AS much as I loved seeing Sting last night and the nostalgia of DX and the nWo, that match was definitely a mess. They didn't announce it as no DQ, so all of that was weird, but the rope break made no sense with everything else going on. Not to mention the Sting loss and the handshake.
It's a shame that it didn't turn out better. The match was very strong before the run ins.
