How about when Vince won dat rumble doe? Still found a way not to compete in the main event of Mania...and that was unpredictable. So did everyone like that?
I honestly feel like the fault isn't in the vehicle, it's in the driver. The writers suck, basically.

I love it. It's a good opportunity to put people over.

The Royal Rumble is fine as it is with the winner facing the champion at WrestleMania. The problem is that WWE has done a very poor job of building legitimate possible winners in recent years. Obviously, not all thirty guys are going to be equal possibilities entering the match, but they NEED to work on making sure fans could honestly believe that there are ten or so guys in the match who could realistically win the Rumble and headline WrestleMania. Doesn't help at all that the past two years were so painfully obvious who was winning.

Outlasting potentially 29 other people isn't worth headlining Wrestlemania?

I like it and wouldn't want it to change but no doubt it doesn't make any sense really. Gauntlet matches are just inherently unfair and luck based, but whatever. It's wrestling, it's not really supposed to make sense.

"All you have to do is luck out and get a good number" We are discussing the same Royal Rumble where #1 has won the same amount of times as #30 has right? Or am I missing something? Yeah... But still. If someone gets number 30 they clearly have more of an advantage than number 1. The winner main events Mania. Luck of ping pong balls shouldn't decide who main events Mania. I love the Rumble! I just think its funny how they determine who highlights Mania.... Ping pong balls Ah right.. so the Rumble concept would be fine if they just used a random number generator instead of a ball tumbler? Or am I missing the point? I do think the Rumble would benefit from a bit more focus on the match draw,' mind. Say have qualifying match-ups for hot numbers (numbers 25-30) on Raw prior to the PPV. Winner gets #30/loser gets #1 style.

Guess you can't please everyone. The Rumble is an awesome event that most fans love and it signals the beginning of Mania season.

It would be pretty funny if someone like Diego won just to show that it's a match anyone can win.
It'll never happen though. It's usually somewhat predictable but a whole lot of fun.

Has the winner of the Royal Rumble ever "lucked out" and won?

It would be incredibly difficult for Vince(or anyone) to change the RR/WM relationship now. The sheer amount of discussion the RR gets on here because of its ties to WM is huge.

I think it was a bit more interesting when they had 2 world titles. More so during the brand split when they were pretty equal in prestige. The winner could choose which one he went for and even if you had a lesser superstar win, you could still have your headline Mania match using the other title.
Nowadays it can be predictable months before the Royal Rumble who is going to win, because the winner is headlining Wrestlemania. It can start to become clear so far in advance, people were saying Reigns was winning the Rumble before the Shield broke up.
I don't think it will change, and it's become too much of a tradition. Not forgetting the hype that surrounds the Rumble. Like people have said it just needs better writing. Throw us a curveball once in a while.
