Anyone else find it stupid that the winner of the Royal Rumble gets a title match at Wrestle Mania? So in order to main event WWE's biggest show of the year all you have to do is "luck" out and get a good number. I understand that pro wrestling is fake, but still. The Rumble match itself is always fun to watch. Their should be a 16 Man Tournament in February on a PPV to determine who main events Wrestle Mania.
I think the winner of the Royal Rumble should get something similar to the Money in the Bank. Where they could get a title shot on any PPV except for Wrestle Mania.

I agree, OP. Everyone enjoys the Rumble, but that's not the debate. The winner shouldn't headline Mania. The winner should get a shot at Mania in a match against the tournament winner you speak of.

I definitely understand your viewpoint. on the other hand, without some sort of "payoff", the rumble becomes just another battle royal. so the idea of a MITB type of deal would be great! maybe something like, instead of doing it on the spur of the moment, the Rumble winner gets a Title shot at the PPV event of their choosing ( excluding Mania ) in the calendar year. but make it have to be chosen ahead of time. not liek the winner can come out at any time and cash in, but has to announce on the Raw after any PPV that they will challenge the Champion at the upcoming one.

"All you have to do is luck out and get a good number"
We are discussing the same Royal Rumble where #1 has won the same amount of times as #30 has right? Or am I missing something?

But still. If someone gets number 30 they clearly have more of an advantage than number 1. The winner main events Mania. Luck of ping pong balls shouldn't decide who main events Mania. I love the Rumble! I just think its funny how they determine who highlights Mania.... Ping pong balls

It's a double edged sword, because the only issue with a championship payoff is that it tells us basically who will win every year, and that won't stop even if they changed it to any other PPV. Darren Young won't ever get a title shot at any PPV.
But if they strip the goal at the end of it, it becomes redundant.
Winning a Rumble and headlining Wrestlemania is prestigious, and an amazing device to build stars. So keep it as-is.

Everyone that has won it was either in the middle of a big push, returning after a previous absent/injury or is just a big name in general. It would be one think if Hardcore Holly or Santino would have won it but its guy who are being pushed/groomed to main event the match. Not just "random guys"

Technically, if the match wasn't used to determine the opponent for the world's champion at WrestleMania, then the event should be built up to the point where winning it is a milestone achievement in & of itself. Similar to the Andre Memorial.

Not just "random guys" Big names have pretty much always won the Rumble. Apart from the first, which was Duggan and even then most of the entrants, if not all of them were midcarders at that time. Studd, Flair and Hogan were all main eventers/big stars when they won, well Studd was a returning win, I guess he didn't go anywhere afterwards.

I like it, what I don't like is that they keep choosing people they know the majority of people don't want to win.
It'd be pretty cool if WWE had a version of the G1 Climax for a title shot at SummerSlam though.

I love the Royal Rumble concept, what I dont like is the winner always being someone who everyone usually suspects is going to win it lol. The WWE always building it up every year to make out anyone stands a chance of winning it yet its always going to be a "top" guy that wins it. I understand, obviously you need someone big to headline Mania but it means you can always rule out about 25 men out of the rumble lol.

Rumble would be so much more fun to watch if you knew anyone could win. The Mania Stipulation pretty much ruins it for 95% of the participants.

"Royal Rumble winner main-events Wrestlemania" is always interesting. The fault is probably more linked to the writers than anything else. Of course there will only be 3 or 4 people with a legitimate chance of winning. Top card guys who deserve a shot or who are just breaking into the main event scene. But if you construct a creative feud between those guys leading up to the PPV and actually throw in some reasonable doubt about who will win it can be very interesting. This year there was no creativity. The final four were Roman, Rusev, Big Show and Kane. You knew only one of them could possibly win. If you look back to past Royal Rumbles 75% of them have been booked pretty well. And a few of them have had unpredictable winners.

I wish they would just completely shock everyone and have someone you would never think had a chance win it. Every year its so damn predictable and you know within a couple weeks before the PPV who they are pushing to win it. I'm not talking a jobber, I'm talking a guy like Dolph Ziggler or Cody Rhodes, A guy who has been around for a while.
