I recorded the show on VHS and still have it for the original Sandman entrance. It's so lame when you watch it back on the Network without hearing Enter Sandman. |

In 2003 for SummerSlam when they used St. Anger, Metallica said they would come perform that song live at the event, and that is when Vince said "I have no idea who they even are" so in 2005 when WWE contacted Metallica to use Enter Sandman, they gave Vince a ridiculous price for it. Of course he had to pay them for it. So in 2006, he went with a Jim Johnston song for Sandman instead of Enter Sandman. |

Did anyone ever watch the Hardcore Homecoming Show that Shane Douglas put on a day before One Night Stand at the ECW Arena in Philly?? Raven vs. Sandman, Funk vs. Sabu vs. Douglas in a barbed wire match, Lynn vs. Credible and other ECW like matches. It was a pretty sweet show too! I recently picked up the dvd from a comic shop. Haven't gotten around to watching it yet though. |

A bittersweet event...it was good to see it resurrected only for that one night, for a truly 'magical' experience with a great NY crowd...to hear Joey Styles on commentary again, even if he was paired with Foley...
The aura is one I'll never forget; some of the matches were not as good as they could've been, but the emotion of the night and the way it was presented as a 'Thank You' to everyone who supported ECW was fantastic...
I truly think it would've been fine without so much WWE involvement...I also think they really didn't need to do a second one the following year which was a tad dire...so Tanaka couldn't kick out of a chair shot from Balls Mahoney? Really? Did the WWE not know Tanaka was capable of more?
...it speaks volumes that there is still discussion about ECW even to this day...

ECW, for better or worse, changed pro wrestling forever. during a time when both the WWF and WCW were going for kiddie, cartoonish characters and storylines, ECW presented reality-based, innovative characters and storylines. while WWF and WCW were toning down the violence and out of control antics, ECW reveled in them and made them a part of their very identity. fans like me, in their late teens or early 20's, who grew up on the WWF and NWA/WCW were looking for an alternative to the cartoonish road both companies were on. we wanted wrestling that catered to US, not to the 8 year old's in the audience. and that was what ECW delivered. it was the heyday of grunge, Beavis and Butthead, Generation X, the slackers, Bill Clinton and his sex scandals, OJ on trial, the frigging 90's, man! and ECW gave the young adults of THAT time, THAT generation exactly what they wanted. cause Paul Heyman was genius enough to live in THAT moment, while Vince and Eric were too busy trying to resurrect the past. |

Dean Ambrose comes first in mind to me he just screams ECW guy to me.

Ambrose definitely. even Daniel Bryan to a degree. he'd fit the Mikey Whipwreck role of perennial underdog, only with better skills.
Kevin Owens i could see as well. a Champion who will do anything, say anything, and doesn't give a $#%@, would fit perfectly into ECW.
