Watched this last night for the first time in ages, like SO LONG and jeez, seriously how amazing is this film?
I was gripped the second it started till about 3 hours after it finished; everything about it is just perfect, the cast, the soundtrack and score, the story, the atmosphere, the references, EVERYTHING! Im not one for love stories, but the plot between Donnie and Gretchen is so hard-hitting to me, I dont know, I felt so connected to it - not to mention that the idea of time travel does really interest me.
Anyone else love this film?

I love it, it's one of my favorite films ever. I might even put it in my top 10.

Fantastic movie! it is one of those movies that I have easily seen about 8 times and each time after I have watched it my mind is racing with thoughts, theories and WTF's long after I have seen it.

The film that made me love Jena Malone. Easily a top favorite of mine.

It's definitely a good movie, but I feel like it gets showered with a tad bit more praise than it warrants. It's by no means bad, but some people treat it like the end all, be all of cinema.

I honestly don't enjoy it as much now as when I was younger. A ton of the themes really resonated with me when I was in high school at the time the film came out. Be it politics, suburban life, the monotony of life in general, school and young love. As I've gotten older my viewpoints have just changed on those themes and the film doesn't hit me as hard as it did originally. Not really a knock on the film itself but rather how I've changed as a viewer over the years. The humor, the horror, it's all still there but the angle has changed for me.
I do still find the time loop/time travel, searching for answers, plot mechanism fascinating and I think that element still holds up extremely well for me. Frank's role and then Donnie's understanding of the Universe and the part he plays as the savior. What he ultimately decided to give his life for, be it for everyone or just for singular love, and how you interpret that situation. The film is undeniably clever and ambiguous in all the right ways imo. I'm not a particularly large fan of the Director's Cut. I think it kind of over explains what is meant to be left for interpretation. That being said, I can't unsee that portion of the story so it does help you grasp the sci-fi elements more, I suppose.
The music is incredible. Always has been. Always will be.

One of my favorite films of all time, undoubtedly. If I'm asked to name a favorite, actually, that's usually my go-to.
I saw it a dozen or more times in the early 2000s and then let it rest for many years. I revisited it for the first time a few years ago and was still just as enthralled and blown away as I was all those years ago. Hard to believe it's been another 3 or so years since I've watched it.

My absolute all time favorite film.
Took me 4 tries to "get it" and I've loved it ever since.

I like it, but I don't think it's as good as everyone says.
